they really need to unhide all of the stats like AP Pen, Pen Angles, Sigma, etc.
Yeah, it's annoying looking it up by yourself.
but that would end up affecting their precious spreadsheets
SLM I almost flipped out when you confused DoY and PoW XD
@Tobias Time jiNgles? lol
@@pegasusted2504 no jiggles
@@mazda_rt24-p ah so not the Mighty Jingles then :~) my mistake, sorry ;~)
I found her tech tree counterpart (George V) really strong, 62% win rate, average damage 100k over 50 games. It was like WG gave me the handmade desert of the George V first then handed me the microwave meal of the Monarch.
Actually the Monarch is a canned food ready to eat. Then after Monarch its a buffet for lion and Conqueror.
But theres only one thing Im surprised about the Monarch is the concealment of 11.5km, better than any cruiser. Also Monarch is much to be played as a Battlecruiser than a Battleship and Monarch works for me, it works for my gameplay with 80% winrate in ranked.
Bizarely i find DoY and KGV much more fun but have a better win rate in Monarch which I always find hard work...
@ I’ve always struggled in the monarch compared to the rest of the British BB. I look at my stats for the british bb line and 60%+ with great average damages scores. Then there’s my monarch with 40% win rate and fairly average to below average damage scores.
Watch videos on how to play but I just couldn’t get it to work - ended up using my free xp to get past it lol
@ so you're saying that the british line gets playable again after QE? thank god.
Funny how WG shortchanged KGV and DoY (some of the best-armored Bs of WW2) on armor protection, forgetting to put in the 350mm transverse bulkhead, among other things, and making them easy to citadel from the front (or from any angle, really)
The DoY has the honor of being my first armory/coal ship, partly since I didn't have the patience to go for a tier9 coal ship, and as tier7 is also my favorite tier and since she's also the only tier 7 coal BB currently in the armory. She's personally among my favorite battleships right now, along with my other tier7 BBs.
Actually Hood also have the improved pen angle on her AP.
Hoods AP is Beastly.
can't hit the side of a barn from the inside in a Hood though... maybe I have wrong captain skills, but she has some of the worst accuracy at any range... on par with the Nagato (without accuracy mods and skills on the Naga, with all of them on the Hood).... IME - I could just be doing it wrong, of course ))
I Had some bad in a CA tell me the other night that I was "lucky to cit him with the crappy Hood guns"....
@@slavkovalsky1671 hood has very good accuracy, what are you talking about lol. Couple it with her 1.9 sigma and those 381mm guns can do wonders. I tell you that. Doesn't even come close to Nagato
Sea Lord: almost says P.o.w's history
Comments: I think its supposed to be D.o.w..
(Funny how in wowsb D.o.y has a smokescreen generator)
Duke of York has a smokescreen in blitz? Huh
well the original DoY was planned as a bb with cruiser consumables, also no heal.
Also Prince of Wales wasn't sunk by carrier aircraft. It was land based aircraft.
I won't lie I like Duke of York and Vanguard
Same... And when doubloon armory coupon resets I am getting Hood, too. With Thunderer on top, all I am missing is Warspite and then Agincourt when it comes out.
EDIT: And I own Nelson for FXP of course. Aaand Dreadnought... I think I might be biased towards British BBs.
I have Hood,Warspite and Vanguard each plays completely different but I love them. Vanguard burns, Warspite smashes and Hood never dies.
I've got Duke of York, Hood and Vanguard, love them
When you're more focused on watching the last bit of the battle than listening to the video so you have to go back like 5min
A long time ago: Workin on a crusin to the cap~ (Play testers) "The ship burns down" (Wargaming) *stops singing* "It don't burn down" *Ship getting closer to HE spammers* (Play testers) *panicking* "It do burn down!"
I think the hood also had improved pen angles.... I will definitely get both again after watching this :) Duke of York was my first ever premium and I was always surprised how much AP she could bounce. Historically she was designed to be almost opposite to Iowa where iowa was designed to withstand 14 inch shells and weild 16 inch guns, the kgv class was designed to withstand 16 inch shells and fire 14 inch guns. That doesn't take into account that British and German steel was of higher quality which improved effective thickness to the point where only yamato had better armour and not by much. Shame that doesnt translate into the game. At tier 7 it's a beast.
Good to see that others share my thoughts on in game UK armour
Hood does have the improved pen angles on its AP but doesn't have the 1/4 calibre HE pen of the rest of the Royal Navy BB's.
Based on this video I bought the Duke of York today. Only four battles so far, but pleased with the results - won 3 of 4, 2008 average XP, 3.0 Destruction Ratio. I am surprised at how much difference the improved penetration angles make to the AP. I find that with the York 80% of my salvos are AP, and with King George V 80% of my salvos are HE. I actually enjoy the York more. This is a good time to buy a coal ship too as one can apply a 25% off coupon, so the cost is reduced from 101,000 coal to 75,750.
Scharnhorst and the Duke contrast each other fairly nicely while simultaneously being excellent cruiser killers.
Scharnhorst has torpedoes, no hydro, and really small calibre guns with a fast reload, while DoY has no torpedoes, a hydro, and a more competitive gun calibre for her tier with a sluggish reload.
Its a good idea to have a coffee before doing a video. 😀 almost had a kitten when you talked about the DoY being sunk by the Japanese. Almost a Jingles moment. Great video though. I had completed dismissed the DoY after its disastrous intro so I appreciate the update
When I read the reviews and they called it the duke of yuck and that it was bad but got it any way and when i started smashing other ships in it was like may be they are saying its bad cause they dont want people to know how good it can be.
A lot of the reviewers seemed to be completely unable to look past how much more they preferred the old testing implementations of the ship and at the time it came out, they really weren’t just objectively looking at how it performs on its own. Or they just compare its reload to the KG V and immediately call it bad because of that. The hydro, extremely strong AA and improved pen angles are what make it really nice, the reduced reload isn’t as much of a hindrance as it’s made out to be.
Regarding the DoY, it is my first premium ship, got it for free in the campaign/mission marathons some years ago. It's a weird ship, when uptiered it's hopeless, but when she's top tier or matched with just a few tier 8s, she's workable with the HE fire chance. I enjoy playing DoY in Narai, but the turret layout and accuracy really hurt this ship. The hydro is utterly useless, would gladly swap it for fighter/spotter/def AA
Not in my experience. The hydro is actually really useful and helps DoY be somewhat good at pushing forward, tanking damage, and duelling with dds, torpedo-armed cruisers, and BBs like the German T7s, Tirpitz, Mutsu and Kii. Hydro helps DoY take chances that KGV can only dream of.
@@charleslarrivee2908 in that regard you are right. I was thinking of the fact that the rudder shift is so long on DoY that the hydro doesn't give that much of an edge in dodging torpedoes. If you are already manoeuvring to preventively dodge torpedoes, that the hydro can indeed help. What I meant to express is that the hydro isn't as effective by itself, it still requires and alert and careful captain. Especially with the new fast torpedoes of the Pan-European DDs
HMS Rodney as a tier 8 premium equipped with torpedoes. How does that sound?
Pretty bad
You support LUFC?
@@kieran3507 yeah. #MOT
@@sutlittle5441 should join our clan we’re all mostly from Yorkshire lol
Bur they must be the hull mounted torpedoes. So not amiable and only 3 per side and in a wide space like in real life
It was the Prince of Wales that was sunk by Japanese Aircraft in WW2 (making her, along with HMS Repulse, the first capital ships to be sunk at sea by aircraft, heralding the start of the carrier era). It is also Prince of Wales that is the sister ship to the current HMS QE CV :). DoY is 'famous' for sinking the Scharnhorst :)
Edit - didn't hear the 'stop typing' part until too late :D
Yes. POW and Repulse were sunk trying to come to my country to fight against the Japanese invasion. Embarrassment to the British.
Also known as the Puke of York or the Duke of Yuck
Got Duke of York in a random super container a while back. I honestly have a love/hate relationship, but really enjoy her in Narai. Like SLM said, when she's top tier, she's unstoppable.
Same thing happened to me as well. My first ever premium...
Going onto the tangent with the prince of wales.... i actually managed to see both prince of wales and QE carriers in port a few weeks ago.
Just comparing their sizes to other docked naval vessels makes me proud of the royal navy because now we actually have a true flagship instead of a glorified transport ship (HMS albion was the RN flagship until QE was operational)
Got her in the xmas boxes, only played her in coop once for the coal and have just read rubbish comments about her. Gonna have to spec her out and give her a chance by the look of it :-) Really enjoy these kind of vids by the way, with the off the beaten track ships.
Spec for a tank build with emphasis on fire and torpedo damage. Played carefully, she's a scalpel perfect for cutting the enemy apart, but beware 16" and over guns.
you need to get close with this ship(the con) to brawl and hide it when it's not the time. nice also for picking up stragglers. yep you really need to be up on your toes playing this ship. I normally get "Dreadnought" with this ship... that's right i'm supposed to be 120%+ dead but my 5 heals help me endure when "tanking" the hell out of a bad situation.. and while tanking out of a bad situation the enemy break their posts and start chasing me then my teammates blap my chasers😂
She's even weirder in WoWs Blitz. She has a smokescreen.
9:05
And of course this is the salvo you talk about the "good accuracy"
I had my mind all set that I was going to get DOY this Spring but the last series of Clan battles and the next series coming up has totally made me rethink that concept. I really need more tier 9 and tier 10 ships to play around with during Clans and Ranked. I really want this ship but there are so many high tier ships left to scoop up.
Such a rarity to find a beautiful woman playing World of Warships...
are you single and available? ❤️
PS: If we become romantically involved, can I have your tier X Yamato?
Unexpected pleasant surprise. I do love my Dork but I *wish* she wasn't so powercrept compared to her tech tree counterpart... would it be so hard to keep the reload at 26 seconds? Instead of having "better fire chance nya" I want to see an RN battleship focused on slapping with AP, and this would have been the perfect choice.
Tip for inexperienced players: do not spend real money on this ship.
are you a filipino? do you have a filipino clan in WoWS?
Thanks, I've been wondering which coal ship to buy. Definitely will try DoY.
I have this ship, I had a good game recently with 110000 damage. I like this ship a lot. Hopefully we will see more of them now
I actually got my Duke of York yesterday from finishing the Kots Collection. I hope it better be good
Same and same
The DoY was my first 'big' coal ship.
My coal reserves still cry sometimes.
do you have the hood ?tier 7 beast i wish it was tier 8 and reload was a bit quicker
Did I hear a hitmarker sound around 2:24?
Edit: also, take a shot every time SLM says a ship in the game's sister ship name by accident
Erm, Prince of Wales was the KGV class BB sunk by the Japanese. Duke of York was the KGV class BB that doomed/sunk Scharnhorst. Duke of York survived the war and was scrapped in the 1950s.
I'ts great for Narai! Was very confused with where you were going with the history lesson....
would you consider taking a 2021 look at Scharnhorst? while tier 7 is generally fun, being uptiered to 9 in a BC with only 12" guns sounds a bit tedious.
11*
Prince of wales was sunk by land based planes, not carrier aircraft, (at this early stage in the war they didn’t think the Japanese army torpedo bombers had very good range when in reality they had ridiculously huge range, so they thought they were safe from attack, they were wrong and died.)
With concealment expert and the concealment module the iowa also gets a 12.7km detection range so it'd be funny if they were the only ships alive from both teams it'd be a pain in the ass to spot each other
The Duck of York is a great ship. Flame thrower for BBs and DDs and AP for cruisers.
quick heads up: according to the wiki, iirc, the conq actually does not get improved citadel damage heal.
a battleship that actually spent its career fighting like a battleship
My experience of the DoY has always been good. < 55% win rate for me. Her main sell point when she first came out was her AA, that AA is still strong but of course we know the general state of AA these days.
I got it when it first came out and liked it, always thought it was seriously underrated.
I honesty think the Duke of York is a missed opportunity to have a royal Navy battleship with a different play style. I never really thought the no heal idea was a good one but the dispersion I liked, and I was REALLY hopping to have standard AP on a Brit BB. Before she came out I thought about a UK BB with no HE the great AP shell characteristics, a low citadel and great armour, and hydro making the ship a good close range brawler but we got what got and that's a shame. On another side note aside from the cit nerf and the loss of a hydro charge thanks to the Commander rework I'm still doing well playing her, almost at 2300 games so I'm getting my moneys worth still. (especially since I payed for old Gent twice)
I loved the Boy George. After i hated the Monarch, a lot. And only with Lion and Thunderer i loved UK BBs again.
I actually like the Duke of York because when was the last time you heard of a battleship landing 10k damage on citadels with high explosive rounds
think you just had a jingles moment sea lord x3
Strangely, US battleships had a lot of 16 inch guns like North Carolina, South Dakota, South Dakota II, Iowa, and Montana classes. And the US designed a battleship with a 20 inch gun, but never built the floating boom islands
This is funny, i just got Duke in my T7 Kots crate ^^
i have almost 80k coal and looking for a ship to get it's either going to be a BB or a cruiser that's not paper since that's the kind of ships i enjoy any recommandations bois?
Duke of York has amazing AP and the AA is actually the second best at tier 7 after the Florida in my opinion. The faster reloading heal and the hydro allows you to push in. I truly love that ship. My average damage at 91k is a little bit lower than KGV‘s at 97k. The AP angles can really surprise people sometimes.
yeah the AA is awesome for its tier but the AP?
cant agree to that one...
had a battle today where i fired a full salvo close quarters against a broadside KGV and graf spee
not a single citadel :X
will stick to HE only with the duke :D
You must have some amazing luck. I am almost NEVER top tier in t7 ships, but I am at least mid tier fairly often in t8.
I got it for coal a while back. I really love playing the ship.
Loool the Konig got traded for a Nagato roughly @ 4:22
You heard it first here - Rodney superheal
IGN ltcomderscott NA: Most of the ships I have are ones players have said aren't any good but I've never had a problem with them. For example INDIANAPOLIS, EXETER, SURREY, VAMPIRE just to name a few. I have 157 ships can't name them all. Great video keep 'em coming.
She's decent as a T7 only if the monster that is Nelson didn't exist.
I only played her for a few games on the day that I got her from the missions for free and she's just sitting in port since then.
😂 nice catch there...
DOY I had while it didn't have the heal and found her okay.
* heal heals for 0.6% per second (like all tech tree UK BB's before super heal), but she can recover 75% of pen damage, not 60%.
Duke of York was not sunk by the Japanese, that was Prince of Wales. DoY sank Scharnhorst at the Battle of the North Cape, with help from destroyers and various cruisers, Belfast, Norfolk, Sheffield, Jamaica.
Sea Lord: I was thinking why is your voice so... familiar. Now, I got it. Your intonation through the sentence is identical to Ross from FRIENDS.
...also... he sounds exactly like ichase.
26mm wont bounce 15inch shells. That is the gimmick of T7. Most T7 BBs will overmatch each other. KGV, Nagato and Colorado are coated in 26mm plates, so more or less any BB shells will do significant damage. At least Lyon, Sinop and the italian BB I wont even try to write down has a belt to bounce anything. KGV has an armored lower belt, but the upper one is still 26mm. Her armor is abysmal. It will arm every BB AP and cruiser HE shell. She also has a really long bow and stern without an icebreaker.
Also, I would like your MM too. I dont remember a single T7 game last year I didnt play against T9. I would prefer the KGV every day instead of Duke. AP is inconsistent with this low caliber, and the HE DPM is far too good to miss that 5sec better reload, and the spotter plane always useful. However, none of them handles being uptiered well. 2 Georgia shells permanently remove most of your health.
This is a good ship and better than the king george in my opinion. The hydroacoustic ability helps to avoid torpedos. The AP shell is great and destroys cruisers with citadel hits often. HMS Duke of York is a beast.
Wows should make a 4x3 gun version fo KGV, maybe t8, maybe slower reload and stay in t7.
Azur Lane DoY is one of my fav and I sure would love to get WoW DoY too now I ear a different opinion than the usual "it's a piece of sheet" (I guess they speak about the armour being thin ? :D )
I think I'll go first for Warspite though if I take a premium RN BB because tier 6 games are usually funnier (for me)
Update : got the Warspite and I'm quite disappointed (always burning and I miss so many shots), got the coal DoY and have a lot of fun so far so I think WG should offer a testdrive of their premiums (but that would make them miss some sales I guess so...)
DOY is an awesome ship if you like like getting shot at by everyone and not hitting anything with your own guns, Got her years ago, so I can tell you that the current meta (or any meta)doesn't matter with her god awful sigma.
She's got the same sigma as Amagi, Richelieu, Minnesota, Georgia...it's pretty average, actually.
@@landochabod7 They all have much bigger guns and 32mm plating tho. Also, sigma value is not the only thing that will tell you how accurate a ship is. I mean, c'mon thunderer has lower sigma than Colorado. If your dispersion circle is gigantic, sigma wont help that much. Sure, on average shells will tend to go closer to the center, but a smaller maximum dispersion is usually better. Just look at deadeye.
Amagi has better horizontal dispersion and longer range. Also, big guns.
Georgia is in its own league with a MUCH tighter dispersion. Also, huge guns and great reload and speed.
Richie has famously bad accuracy but she is fast and has larger guns in a better configuration.
Minnesota is... well she is junk, but at least a junk with a lot of guns.
Sadly DoY and KGV are damage piñatas if not top tier, and in the current MM I cant even remember the last time I was top at T7.
Just got her and having fun. Keep her safe and she is good ship.
DoY's AA still holds up pretty well. I've gotten at least three AA Defense Expert medals with her, AFTER the CV rework.
Also, you've got some weird luck with matchmaking. T7 is now one of the worst tiers for getting uptiered.
Also, I too would have liked to see Rodney in the game. In fact, Rodney should be in game rather than Nelson; Rodney had by far the more distinguished career, including her role in sinking Bismarck.
Had the best game today with this.. me and a BB with a cruiser and destroyer managed to get to the enemy base.. we tried to win by occupying the base. From the middle of the map the enemy forces rushed towards their base and when near killed off my team's destroyer and cruiser trying to occupy their base. But before being killed off i turned tail with the whole enemy team chasing me to the side. Luckily i was able to endure their chasing damage till i'm off their gun range. Seeing the points that we have a small advantage i advised the team to turn tail and leave them chasing us.. because 5min isn't enough for the enemy to chase us halfway across the map 😅We won!
What I have not found an answer to is how much deck armor do the DoY and KGV actually have? Do they have a combined 50mm of armor on two decks or do they have the real life 7 inch deck over the magazines and 6 inches over the machinery? Because two inches of deck armor (and not even a single plate with a 2 inch thickness but on two different decks) for a KGV class is absolute bullshit. You can't even see if the main armor deck is the one that meets the top of the belt armor as the rest of the armor gets in the way when looking at armor layout. You just can't get the right angle from underneath to see. Two inches of deck armor is, as I said before, BULLSHIT on a King George V class.
I have a really good win ratio with this ship. The fire chance on this is really good.
1:30 SLM I think you mixed Duke of York up with her sister ship Prince of Wales.
im sorry I was expecting a Yukikaze video or Indianapolis which has to be the most anemic "heavy" cruiser in the game:)
I've always enjoyed the Duke of York
wtf!?! "tier 7 is top tier more often then not"" are you drunk?
Meant to say T6 :p
Both being tier 7, I prefer Hood than DoY, hood is more tanky and faster agile than DoY
Idk why should Duke of york has to be the worst premium. How about Ashitaka or Z-35?
DOY at tier 7 looks cheap next to Flint.
*looks arounds, sees no other comment
Sixtyninth!
Picked her up back on the Christmas event. Never really liked it. This horrible dispersion combined with slow reload and no overmatch just makes her worse than many other T7 BBs. I mean even my Nagato which is made out of paper clearly outperformes DoY cause it has at least accurate guns which hit really hard.
Its better than junk like Strasbourg and the horrible italian T7 or course. But id rather use my poor powercrept Scharnhorst.
is this ship still good?
I liked the ship, but as soon as I got the nelson, I stopped playing her, and never looked back.
The problem with her is the range: 18.1km
ANYTHING ANYTHING ANYTHING that is a t6+BB can outmatch you in range, same with a LOT of t8-9 cruisers it is FUSTRATING
Apart from that and her armor (help it not as good as it sounds) she IS a good ship tho
Not gunna lie, I got the ship because I had the Arctic Camo. Only played a few games in it, set many fires.
got her for 3 days on rent. had a blast while devstriking neptunes
The DooK-o-Yawwk....
Good ship in tier 7 but as it's been duly noted tier 7 is a bad tier to be at because it's way up tiered most of the time (I also know this by experience)
I like this ship, very Fun
It's not good against cruisers, its reload is far too slow and dispersion horrible. By the time you have reloaded they have already got 4 fires on you and have fired a full set of torpedoes into you. Chance are you will miss anyway.
"A tier 7 battleship without a heal wont push" That logic applies to EVERY ship in the game. I 100% guarantee if EVERY ship had a heal of some kind people would be alot more aggressive, why do you think WG added all those duplicates of existing ships but they had HEALS. Remind me we can hell 100% fire damage right? if not we should cus fire gives zero shits about you.
I've had mine for a while, not the worse ship in the game. She gets the job done.....as long as you don't show too much broadside!
Accuracy seems poor when I played her, and I get a majority of T8-T9 matches. Couple that with mediocre range, and I've always hated playing her.
You messed up Duke oF York to the Prince of Wales. The Duke of York wasn't sunk by Japanese aircraft but the Prince of Wales was and Prince of Wales is now a Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier (Said this cuz I'm HMS Prince of Wales)
Why spend coal or cash when you can just play the Colorado at tier 7? Colorado is faster and more accurate than most Tier 10 destroyers, and since she's tech tree ship all you have to do is grind to get her.
I just unlocked the lyon... worst bb I've played....
Lyon has this very sweet and salty side especially with distance since she has no recon plane, you just have to find the right moment to strike and she could be classified as a "shotgun" with Fuso tho I agree with what u said but Lyon just requires a lot more guts from the player...
You're top tier more often than not?
Isn't the case for me. Wasn't the case 3 months ago. I think T7 is the tier where I get uptiered the most.
the game is hard coded to uptier you 8/10 games!
@@spudnic5849 Only at T7 tho. At any other tier, I get up- and downtiered equally.
Come on people, let the man cap. Bloody hell....
Mmm... "Worst"... Wonder why my stats all day "good" or "unicum" on her xD
(It's dropped very slightly since Cunningham lost his jack of all trades)
Maybe you're thinking PoW because Repulse is coming out.
I'm quite impressed all the bad everybody's talking of British battleships they're armours crap all they do is spam HE they have no secondaries somebody actually had something good to say
