Capybaras are very social creatures. If they arent around other people or animals, the becomes super stressed out. This Capybara is super relaxed because it is with a couple ducklings that are super social.

I love ducklings and goslings, I raised a couple of orphaned Canada goslings whilst looking after the waterfowl at my local sanctuary. Those little "peeps" just took me back there briefly.
I used to want a dog but I think I've changed my mind.

I wish I had the time and resources to give two or more capybaras a good-anxiety free-life. I am so thankful for content like this because: I can at least still have second hand affection towards such complex, and of course cute, animals.
Unless you are literally willing to give give up your living room for capys...no really, like, no carpet hay floor living room AND a large body of water l of some sort--they love to swim and are very adept at it, among mor complicated reasons...or at least a heat controlled barnhouse in most climates (pool still needed). As a scientist of chem, bio, pharm, bio chem, etc...I can not help but marvel at capys.
The amount of emotional and social intelligence they possess is astonishing. But, that also entails providing the time and energy to meet their needs. Honestly, if a capys life is spent in constant anxiety, fear, and/or loneliness...then I feel that qualifies as abuse.
I do not use that word lightly or haphazardly.. To what extent of abuse, if it all: decide for yourself by putting in the time to research and understand capybaras before rushing to purchase one. If you find yourself looking at capy pics, you might notice a great deal are of them in large bodies of water (usually) asleep or eyes closed. I know it may sound outlandish to state that they need a large body of water; hopefully, after you have done some research, you will understand such a seemingly extreme claim, other claims I have made, etc.
Of course, that does not mean we can not disagree at that point; but, at least we can be on more even terms regarding their psychology and mostly undomesticated genetic tendencies they can not help to feel or do. Lastly, they may not be legal to own in your state, country, et al.
