The 2 most powerful kaiju in the series (no one likes the sequel) had to team up against the oldest jaeger to win, and even then it was still fighting. I genuinely believe this is the best jaeger in the series.
Pure raw strength and endurance. Alpha is my 2nd favorite jaeger. :) 1st place belong to Horizon Brave. How much I would like a prequel focusing on the glorious days of mark 1 jaegers....T_T
Cherno Alpha is stated (on the wiki) to be 2,412 US tons and it only took approximately 4 chinooks to lift it despite 4 chinooks being able to lift approximately 52 US tons. Guess in the pacific rim universe everything is more durable, even boats

Unlike a ship of the same volume (which would weigh more than 2000 tons) the Jaegers are not mostly filled with air, they are massive slabs of metal. Goin by the square cube law, if we say a 1.3 meter cherno alpha weighed 200kg (low balling, again it's mostly metal without any air pockets) that would place Cherno alpha's weight at 52000 tons.
Crazy how even while being melted with acid it still took an even bigger Kaiju sneaking up behind them to bring them down. Cherno was an absolute beast.
Pacific rim did have one major flaw. I will never believe that a couple of american helicopters can pick up a Russian built tank robot. Would've been cooler if it arrived by armored train.
Fun Fact: the reason Cherno Alpha has a cylinder-like head is that the kaiju always go for the head as seen in the first kaiju fight. So in by getting rid of the head completely the dampen down that weakness.
If you think about it, it makes sense that the kaiju would focus on Cherno Alpha's destruction since that pulse wouldn't effect it since it was nuclear. A neat little detail as to why the destruction of Cherno Alpha was so brutal.

I feel like the only reason why they didn't use the flame thrower and shock punch was because the water would shock them and put out the fire. By far fav jager. Literally beats them to death. Oooh so awesome

Winning I don't think so against both at once.. but it would have lasted a LOT longer if it wasn't for the acid that ruined it's armor, which was Cherno's biggest strengh that put it on par with more modern Jaegers.

Was wandering youtube and ended up on the Pacific Rim Uprising videos, then I remembered this beauty exists and switched to watch the like 3 minutes of screen time it got, with way more satisfaction.
I love the design. It really SCREAMS that it's an older jaeger that doesn't even have a proper head, simple weapons, and a reactor so big it takes half of the space in the mech. And that a Jaeger that old is still kicking when more modern models get slaughetred is a proof of how well made it was. Not through higher, cutting edge tech, but by simply being the biggest and most well-armored Jaeger around.
Last of the Mark I's with a 6 year record that wasn't wrecked until it got double teamed with one kaiju being ridiculously acidic. Cherno is a legend among legends and my personal fav.
Cherno Alpha is the first jaeger ever made, the heaviest withal - it deserves a separate movie. For example "Pacific Rim: The Siberian Wall" or "Pacific Rim: The Beginning".
Not sure it's the first ever made.. I know it is the only remaining 1st generation jaeger, but I don't think it was mentioned as being the 1st built jaeger. Still, that a model this old is still around really tells a lot. Early kaiju attacks (which were much weaker kaijus, and only ever came one at a time) must have been utterly curbstomped by Cherno, wher other, more modern Jaegers kept on being destroyed.

I like the Jaegers because the best strategy they have is, hold it down, and beat the ever living shit out of its face until it dies. Cherno Alpha is my favorite because it looks like if you strapped a mini nuclear power plant onto a suit of fallout powerarmour. Just pure badass.

It looks like they use ay least 8 chinooks per jaeger.
I don’t believe that they’re only 2000 tons. It’s basically the weight of a small frigate. I woud think that they’re on the 30,000+ ton displacement

They're V-50 Jumphawks, not exactly American, but are meant to be able to carry Jaegers specifically, and designed for said purpose and use by PPDC.
