Joohoney was literally going thru the lowest point in his life back in late 2019 and early 2020. he was mentally and physically exhausted and fainted several times after performing because of anxiety disorder and was taken to hospital. he went thru a lot and took a hiatus for 3 months. and he made Smoky during that time while he was struggling. so it's a really raw song that is so meaningful to us.
It is so amusing to me how Jooheon and IM talk about similar emotions but have different takes. They're literally yin and yang. Two sides of the same coin. This group is just, really if you judge them by their title tracks you're going to miss a lot, the talent is overflowing. IM tends to be the person who likes drowning in his emotions. If he drowns in it, Jooheon swims fiercely. Not that its a bad thing. Some people thrive in feeling everything. The title God Damn gives a duality as you can read it both in a positive and negative manner. It's very interesting. Joo's whole mixtape Psyche is also a great mixtape. This group is just amazing.

The thing about Jooheon is he is EVERYTHING! He has the hype side, the hard hitting, the silly, the sweet, the thoughtful, the sensitive.. He's so talented and versatile and it shows in the music he makes for both himself (the whole Psyche album is SO good) and the group.
Smoky and other songs from his PSYCHE mixtape album were written during his rest for many months due to mental health issues, which was after a few months of wonho departure from the group. He had to rest for like mths and poured all those emotions into the album
I really know what u mean with smoky. It´s a really meaningful song. Jooheon wrote it when he was going through a really bad moment. He was afected because of wh´s situation, he was under so much preassure and he took a rest because he was diagnosed with anxiety... it´s just deep

I like your reactions to them, it's seems really sincere. And in this fandom, be free to say that you not vibing with some songs, it is totally fine. Monbebe are pretty chill when in comes to music taste, because Monsta X are very diverse artists. They work with almost every genre and obviously it's not possible to like all songs equally. Actually jooheon and IM are MONSTA X's rappers but hyungwon can rap pretty well just like the others members, MONSTA X has singers who can rap and has rappers who can sing. hyungwon is a DJ (you can see it in the individual guides) so it's very difficult to find songs where he sings in the whole song. Picture is the OST from the KDRAMA (fly again) in which he participated as an actor, hyungwon can be anything he wants to be.

Jooheon and I.M on the other hand have written lots. Hyungwon picking up the pace recently too on writing for MX albums. Every time kihyun performed voyager during live promos the mic was ON. He sounds exactly like the recording every time it’s insane. He did live performances of both rain and comma on the same yt channel. So good.

WE LIVE FOR MONTEEN!!! - Minhyuk was drunk during the Ongshimi MV filming 😂😭 The 90s karaoke style trot-hip hop (as they called it) song was made by Joohoney and gifted to Minhyuk! - Joohoney went on a mental health hiatus after wonho left due to panic/anxiety disorder. Soon after he came back, he released his Psyche mixtape..and boiiii. the lyrics, the depth. He spilled it all out there. You can sense the torment (as well as hope) in Smoky. Whenever I think of a Kihyun solo, I always think first of his round 1 performance on No Mercy, the survival show they were formed from. He did Hyeya by Jonghyun and it's a phenomenal performance.
Also, if you're still curious, the K-Drama that was playing during Shownu's song is called The Tale of The Nine-Tailed. Its really good, almost as good as the K-Drama Goblin.
Smoky has my entire heart in a way I can't even begin to describe. It bears such an emotional weight that shutters me every time I listen to it. A while after everything with Wonho went down, Jooheon had to take a break to focus on his mental health.. and then he came back, with this masterpiece. I just wish we could protect him from all the pain he had to endure, the other members as well. They are such good people.
I love Ongsimi, it's so fun, Joohoney gifted the TROT EDM fusion, semi comedic song to Minhyuk for one of his birthdays I believe, and they were tipsy and running around Hong Kong filming it. Truly an iconic moment in MX history. Minhyuk has such a unique husky voice, with a beautiful falsetto, but his talent is often overlooked, even in guides with how well he can actually sing and dance, and how (since Wonho's departure, and now with Shownu in the military) he has really stepped up to the plate with taking (although not formal, as the members no longer hold true to their given positions and have all become allrounders) a lead vocal and lead dance role in the group over the past 3 years. So I hope that you can see past how he is often stereotyped to be this cute, goofy, sassy sunshine in the group while you are on your journey, because he is so much more than that
Hyungwon is also a dj. He did a moment in the 2019 concert where he Djed and it was awesome. It felt or was a rave. Such fun. Then the other memebers came out and it was so much fun. We were all jumping
The thing with MonstaX is that they grow on you. All those music and their personalities grow on you the more u find out about them. It is becoming a thing for us when someone would think monstax as a group they wouldnt enjoy whenever they listen to them for the first time
Jooheon is much more than a rapper. He is an artist. He's a person who always wears his heart on his sleeve and accomplishes whatever he set his mind, body, and soul to. He's a jack of all trades from rapping, producing, composing, arranging, directing, and even some acting. He can also sing, and play multiple instruments, and he's also a great DJ. He is captivating, he is just such an interesting person. You just gotta love him.
I could say... you can find many surprises from listening to Monsta X. Mostly people know them as noise music, strong powerful dance, and aggressive rapping because they don't try to dig deeper into their musicality. Their b-sides are gold with many variations, maybe you can check them personally or on this channel. In my opinion, you will love Kihyun's mini-album (though it is only 3 songs there and I so relate to your rant but this solo album is so meaningful for Kihyun. He did this solo in the middle of the group's busy schedule so I think I can understand why it is only 3 songs). And, about Jooheon's smoky. This song is the manifestation of his frustration around 2019-2020. He went on hiatus due to mental health back then, right after Wonho was out of the group. He came back with a mixtape album and Smoky is the main but you will find the Yo-Yo-Yo-rapper-kind-of-thing songs in this same mixtape.
What a great idea to feature something solo from each member! A Shownu album of sweet lullabies would be fantastic. Hyungwon is always a pleasant surprise, and it's funny to me that his rapping voice and singing voice don't sound like the same person seconds apart. Wonho brought us another song that you need to play in the car while driving at night, and I marvel every time at his ability to put together things that perfectly suit his style. Also, did you watch Blue? Kihyun is just flawless in a great many ways. He's so humble and sweet, and yet he'll knock you out with his amazing vocal talents, range, and sound. Minhyuk's trot video is so funny. It seems so on brand for him to make something simple like this, but full of personality with the Jooheon-written and produced song, done in an old-school karaoke style with the words filling in with colors to sing along! It's genius and so much fun. Jooheon's Smoky is emotional for so many reasons. Not only because it has that piercing vulnerability, but also because the video itself is shot in one long, almost agonizing take. The "imperfections" are what take it from slick cinematography to gritty banger. He's a complete ace. It's maybe worth watching the creation video for this one, showing all his interactions with the kids who sing along with the chorus. He's just amazing. And he does have the hard-hitting rap stuff as well; I recommend his Ambition (ruclips.net/video/ue1QU-vCEKQ/видео.html) to see that style from him (if you wanna!). Finally, I.M's God Damn sounds lush and sexy (and it is!), but it feels like it has a duality (!) in meaning, too, because it's not necessarily "kiss me down til I'm naked" meaning physically naked, but emotionally naked, stripped to the core and vulnerable. I.M's a very in-his-head type, and I think it came out in his solo work. I highly recommend a solo song he did with the baverse project (ruclips.net/video/hKigXJzE8g8/видео.html) called Loop. Though it is a mini album, VOYAGER is just soo perfect that I can't put in words. Voyager has a very raw and unique touch when it comes to its lyrics and production along with Kihyun's vocals. "Voyager" title track is a rock hyper , "Comma" is a sad hip twerker and "Rain" is just *E.P.I.C* . Its like in my top 3 B-sides( may be not just b-sides but including title tracks too) from the entire Kpop. I really wish you react to other two tracks from Voyager too and know why is Yoo Kihyun called as the God Of Kpop.
Shownu's OST is a soft rock genre. It's soo good. My go to music to listen when I'm about to sleep or driving. 🎶 Hope you can react to Kihyun's covers 🙏💙
I absolutely agree with you when it comes to single albums, I think it's almost always just abt the money, but in Kihyun's case it was definitely bc of his packed schedule. We (mbbs) have been asking for his solo for a long time and he had also expressed he wanted to release a solo album more than once but it never came until now (yay!), he said he heard the demo for Voyager and thought "this is it, that's the song" and he felt like it was finally the time to release his solo even if his schedule was so packed, so I believe that's why his album only has three songs. He said there's more to come in the future tho haha so I'm very much looking forward to it. And abt Hyungwon's OST, I'm pretty sure the rap parts were not done by him, although he can rap, I think it was one of his co-stars, bc he also acted in the drama this OST is from. Great reaction!
I'm so happy for this week, and also for you including member's solos, it's so hard to see someone reacting to Hyungwon's solo. Picture was his first OST and it's from a drama that he was on. At the beginning years of Monsta X, Hyungwon didn't have many lines, but since 2020 you can see the growth in his vocals, confidence and his is really shining now. Thank you for reacting to some solos! In fact this reaction video reminded me of the individuality of each member, they all bring their own colour and flavour to the mix. I'm so glad you got to see a different side to Jooheon. He is one of those people that I'd call a true artist, he was BORN to do this, talents just oozes through that man's bones. It would be awesome if you did react to Kihyun's other 2 songs. I think everyone agrees that any of the songs on the Voyager album could have passed for title tracks cos they're that good! 👏🏽

A couple things I wanna say about my favorites from this video: what you said about Honey - going in with the wrong expectation. I wouldn’t necessarily say you were wrong going in lol. Sure, THAT song is not the hype that you’re used to seeing from him, but… that’s just how Honey is. He has EXTREME duality. More than any other member. He is a raging tornado of lightning and fire when he is on stage performing with the group, but at the same time… he is SO deep and emotional and special. As you saw with that video. And it’s amazing. Second, Wonho is SUCH a wild card. And you’re right when you said that if he stayed with the group he may not have had as much of a solo career, if any at all. We never would have known all he was capable of. I don’t know if you have seen EVERY MV of his (he has some Japanese releases too) but they’re all SO different. There is literally nothing this man can’t do. He even RAPS in one of his bsides from his first album! Btw, his most recent one was a single album (lol 😅) and I think you’d really like the bside that goes along with eye on you. It’s called Somebody. But listen! I don’t THINK this release was so much of a money grab as it was… Wonho had a bigger release planned but he decided the other songs weren’t ready. (EDIT: don’t take my word on that. That’s just my speculation) He has another comeback coming SOON. Like within the next couple months. And he said the concept is gonna be very sexy and fairy-like… Like I said - wild card. I’m looking forward to your next reaction. I’m glad you gave them a second chance. They really are a group that is just OOZING with talent and there’s a little bit of something for everybody.
I'm sure someone already commented about Hoshi helping Wonho choreograph the dance for Eye On You, but it's a testament to Wonho's talent and training that he can still move and dance so well even with like 20+ pounds of muscle on top of what he had b4 leaving MX, and you should also listen to the other song on that single album called Need Somebody

Monsta X members did two collabs with other artists for Pepsi. The first one is Hyungwon and Hongbin (Vixx). It's the Cool Love song you mentionned. I definitely recommend checking it out. But I love both Hyungwon and Hongbin so maybe I am a bit biased. I prefer the other collab though. The other one is I.M., Hyungwon and Shownu with Ateez, Rain, and Brave Girls. It's a bop and there's a part where I.M raps followed by Hongjoong (or the other way around) and just YES (maybe I am once again totally biased oops). Also, it's okay to not vibe with a song as much. I love I.M., he's definitely fighting to claim the bias spot, and yet I did not like god damn. It wasn't for me and that's alright. I don't know if others would agree with me or not, but you said you were interested in watching a live performance of Voyager maybe and I highly recommend his itsLIVE performance (ruclips.net/video/zWM7y6Yf-SM/видео.html) I really enjoy this whole Monsta X week so far. changkyun's lyrics seem "sexy and flirty" but god damn is actually pretty sad if you pay attention to the lyrics and the mv details. the song is about feeling loneliness and isolation from someone and everyone to the point where you isolate yourself and tell yourself youre fine alone, but actually youre desperate for someone to SEE you for who you are. changkyun is ofter misinterpreted as cold and obtuse but he's really sweet and calm and really intellectual, he has this amazing way of thinking i havent come across in a lot of idols, he's unabatingly honest and not afraid to express his opinions. sigh he's lovely

Also wonhos songs literally get better and better. Every song he releases you think can’t be better than the last release and he ends up doing it. This is my favorite wonho song. I still love ain’t about you. That was my favorite til this came out 😂
I am actually so glad that you have a similar opinion to mine in regards to Wonho leaving the group. I might be in the minority but as heartbreaking and sad as it was back then, in high-sight ( which is 20/20 hehe ‘one day’ reference ), him leaving the group is the best thing that happened to them.... I know, I sound crazy but lemme just explain myself. Wonho was extremely present in the group, he was one of the members that got a lot of lines alongside Kihyun and Shownu, leaving Minhyuk and Hyungwon with very very few lines. Maybe you didn’t notice while reacting to their older songs, but those two barely sing in them. Ever since Wonho left, they have a lot more lines and tbh I had no idea up until last year how great they are as singers because they never got the chance to shine much. Even with Shownu in the military, I love how much Minhyuk and Hyungwon sing in their last album No Limit and even without him, a MONSTER of a performer this group STILL stands 😩. Also, Wonho leaving the group set a fire under their feet to push further their limits and work hard which resulted in them putting out some of their best music, videos, choreos, clothes, etc, those past 2 years. Their need to prove that they still got it without him made them and Starship evolve to another level. Also, I am sorry, but Wonho is a superstar. He is a soloist, his work for the past 2 years proves it. The man was BORN to make his own music and perform according to his own standards and rules. He has too much personality and identity within his own craft and I can’t say I saw that as much while he was in the group. The only sad part to me is them not interacting anymore... that literally breaks my heart because their dynamic as a whole, is one of the best in kpop. I’ve never seen a group love and support eachother more than Monsta X does and Seventeen. Maybe that’s why they are friends, cause they are alike as people. But besides that, career wise, this was the best thing that could have happened to Monsta X and Wonho, I have arrived at a place where I thank God it happened because Oh My the music and artistry we have today is something we would have never had it had he stayed. So it’s really all about perspective. You can be sad that he left and stay stuck in that place forever or you can see the bright side and move on. I choose the second half. 🖤

What happened and is still happening to Wonho is very unfair to him and the fans. What I don't understand is why Starship, who fought so hard for him, fixed his issue in record time, kept him under contract in their subsidiary company, is determined to erase his history from the group now. This is most evident just recently when Starship blurred him from a recent video about MX history but ironically, included his song "From Zero" as an achievement by the group being the only MX song that reached no 1 in Billboard World chart. This achievement was made by fans as a celebration and support for Wonho when he was cleared of all accusations by the Korean police (smoking marijuana and stealing -- the people who accused him either refused to testify when summoned or were in jail themselves for other crimes). I am happy that Monsta X is still doing very well but I really believe that they would have been bigger and even more successful if Wonho had stayed. They lost momentum when that incident happened. He also wrote, produced and was involved in the choice of songs to put in their albums and which title track to use. Their "Beautiful" album is still, in my opinion, one of the best kpop albums ever released and he wrote 3 great songs there. He was also the Center of the group especially on their legendary live end of year performances. As it is, he took his game with him and with his overwhelming charisma and talent, is now predictably, a very successful soloist. It's probably true that we couldn't have seen his true potential if he was still in the group. And the other members that were kind of overshadowed by his "star appeal" were given the chance to shine. But I sometimes wonder where the group would be now if he hadn't left.

Our Honey, has struggled in the past (and perhaps currently) with anxiety and depression. The lyrics of his mixtapes are always very honest. He always wants to show his best to us but we get glimpse of what is going on behind curtains in his mixtapes. He's very genuine. I'm so glad that he seems better after his mental health hiatus right after Wonho's departure from MX. I.M is someone who has a lot to say as well, he's an internalizer and deep thinker. A soft and thoughtful person considering how people tend to view him lol.
Kihyun's love and soul is rock so they probably gave him a funk song and he said make it as much rock as you can to the producers :D he's been trying to get a rock song with monsta x since forever

Smoky & God Damn came after the Wonho situation. The whole group was mentally & physically exhausted, even Shownu lost so much weight and Jooheon had to take a mental health break. She who shall not be named tried for other members too. So these two songs are heavy with that emotion plus they cant talk about what happened either. They have a song called Flower Cafe that you may like and it's more light-hearted.

This was a great reaction and overall a good idea to focus more on each member. Some of them (if not all) don't get to show all their colors in the group MVs. I'm thinking of Minhyuk and Joohoney especially, who might appear very different in their group title tracks. The songs I already knew were Wonho's, Kihyun's, and I.M.'s. The others were a nice discovery. I don't like ranking songs, even less if they're from different members, so these are my overall thoughts: Song I'd listen to most on repeat (because of beat and general mood): Eye on You Sweetest song: I'll be there (got me really curious about the TV series too) Deepest and most heartbreaking: Smoky (I know Joohoney had this in him but hadn't heard it yet. So sorry for what he went through. I love this guy) Most unexpected: Ongshimi (so much fun and we get to see Minhyuk's personality) Best to listen to on the road: Voyager (dull comment but I do think it's cool to listen to while driving) Inspiring yet boppy: Picture (I love the warmth of Hyungwon's voice, also curious about this series he stars in) Most "controversial" and contemporary: God Damn (love how I.M. breaks stereotypes and boundaries and I just love his tone of voice)

I love smoky but honestly I don't listen to it very often because it brings emotions I don't really want to deal with. I think the other songs from that Jooheon's mixtape have the vibe you were expecting for. Joohoney was literally going thru the lowest point in his life back in late 2019 and early 2020. he was mentally and physically exhausted and fainted several times after performing because of anxiety disorder and was taken to hospital. he went thru a lot and took a hiatus for 3 months. and he made Smoky during that time while he was struggling. so it's a really raw song that is so meaningful to us.

It is so amusing to me how Jooheon and IM talk about similar emotions but have different takes. They're literally yin and yang. Two sides of the same coin. This group is just, really if you judge them by their title tracks you're going to miss a lot, the talent is overflowing.
IM tends to be the person who likes drowning in his emotions. If he drowns in it, Jooheon swims fiercely. Not that its a bad thing. Some people thrive in feeling everything. The title God Damn gives a duality as you can read it both in a positive and negative manner. It's very interesting. Joo's whole mixtape Psyche is also a great mixtape. This group is just amazing.

The thing about Jooheon is he is EVERYTHING! He has the hype side, the hard hitting, the silly, the sweet, the thoughtful, the sensitive.. He's so talented and versatile and it shows in the music he makes for both himself (the whole Psyche album is SO good) and the group.
Smoky and other songs from his PSYCHE mixtape album were written during his rest for many months due to mental health issues, which was after a few months of wonho departure from the group. He had to rest for like mths and poured all those emotions into the album

Monbebe are pretty chill when in comes to music taste, because Monsta X are very diverse artists. They work with almost every genre and obviously it's not possible to like all songs equally. Actually jooheon and IM are MONSTA X's rappers but hyungwon can rap pretty well just like the others members, MONSTA X has singers who can rap and has rappers who can sing.
hyungwon is a DJ (you can see it in the individual guides) so it's very difficult to find songs where he sings in the whole song.
Picture is the OST from the KDRAMA (fly again) in which he participated as an actor, hyungwon can be anything he wants to be.

Whenever I think of a Kihyun solo, I always think first of his round 1 performance on No Mercy, the survival show they were formed from. He did Hyeya by Jonghyun and it's a phenomenal performance.
Literally one of the few vocalists who did Hyeya justice in terms of the emotive impact on top of vocal skills

Smoky has my entire heart in a way I can't even begin to describe. It bears such an emotional weight that shutters me every time I listen to it.
A while after everything with Wonho went down, Jooheon had to take a break to focus on his mental health.. and then he came back, with this masterpiece. I just wish we could protect him from all the pain he had to endure, the other members as well. They are such good people.
I love Ongsimi, it's so fun, Joohoney gifted the TROT EDM fusion, semi comedic song to Minhyuk for one of his birthdays I believe, and they were tipsy and running around Hong Kong filming it. Truly an iconic moment in MX history. Minhyuk has such a unique husky voice, with a beautiful falsetto, but his talent is often overlooked, even in guides with how well he can actually sing and dance, and how (since Wonho's departure, and now with Shownu in the military) he has really stepped up to the plate with taking (although not formal, as the members no longer hold true to their given positions and have all become allrounders) a lead vocal and lead dance role in the group over the past 3 years. So I hope that you can see past how he is often stereotyped to be this cute, goofy, sassy sunshine in the group while you are on your journey, because he is so much more than that
Hyungwon is also a dj. He did a moment in the 2019 concert where he Djed and it was awesome. It felt or was a rave. Such fun. Then the other memebers came out and it was so much fun. We were all jumping

Jooheon is much more than a rapper. He is an artist. He's a person who always wears his heart on his sleeve and accomplishes whatever he set his mind, body, and soul to. He's a jack of all trades from rapping, producing, composing, arranging, directing, and even some acting. He can also sing, and play multiple instruments, and he's also a great DJ. He is captivating, he is just such an interesting person. You just gotta love him.
I could say... you can find many surprises from listening to Monsta X. Mostly people know them as noise music, strong powerful dance, and aggressive rapping because they don't try to dig deeper into their musicality. Their b-sides are gold with many variations, maybe you can check them personally or on this channel.
In my opinion, you will love Kihyun's mini-album (though it is only 3 songs there and I so relate to your rant but this solo album is so meaningful for Kihyun. He did this solo in the middle of the group's busy schedule so I think I can understand why it is only 3 songs).
And, about Jooheon's smoky. This song is the manifestation of his frustration around 2019-2020. He went on hiatus due to mental health back then, right after Wonho was out of the group. He came back with a mixtape album and Smoky is the main but you will find the Yo-Yo-Yo-rapper-kind-of-thing songs in this same mixtape.

God Damn is definitely my favorite out of these but I might be slightly biased lol. I also loved the songs Burn and Happy To Die from I.M's album.
What a great idea to feature something solo from each member! A Shownu album of sweet lullabies would be fantastic. Hyungwon is always a pleasant surprise, and it's funny to me that his rapping voice and singing voice don't sound like the same person seconds apart. Wonho brought us another song that you need to play in the car while driving at night, and I marvel every time at his ability to put together things that perfectly suit his style. Also, did you watch Blue? Kihyun is just flawless in a great many ways. He's so humble and sweet, and yet he'll knock you out with his amazing vocal talents, range, and sound. Minhyuk's trot video is so funny. It seems so on brand for him to make something simple like this, but full of personality with the Jooheon-written and produced song, done in an old-school karaoke style with the words filling in with colors to sing along! It's genius and so much fun. Jooheon's Smoky is emotional for so many reasons. Not only because it has that piercing vulnerability, but also because the video itself is shot in one long, almost agonizing take. The "imperfections" are what take it from slick cinematography to gritty banger. He's a complete ace. It's maybe worth watching the creation video for this one, showing all his interactions with the kids who sing along with the chorus. He's just amazing. And he does have the hard-hitting rap stuff as well; I recommend his Ambition (ruclips.net/video/ue1QU-vCEKQ/видео.html) to see that style from him (if you wanna!). Finally, I.M's God Damn sounds lush and sexy (and it is!), but it feels like it has a duality (!) in meaning, too, because it's not necessarily "kiss me down til I'm naked" meaning physically naked, but emotionally naked, stripped to the core and vulnerable. I.M's a very in-his-head type, and I think it came out in his solo work. I highly recommend a solo song he did with the baverse project (ruclips.net/video/hKigXJzE8g8/видео.html) called Loop. It's really a great look at his style. Enjoying the heck out of your Monsta X week!

Though it is a mini album, VOYAGER is just soo perfect that I can't put in words. Voyager has a very raw and unique touch when it comes to its lyrics and production along with Kihyun's vocals. "Voyager" title track is a rock hyper , "Comma" is a sad hip twerker and "Rain" is just *E.P.I.C* . Its like in my top 3 B-sides( may be not just b-sides but including title tracks too) from the entire Kpop. I really wish you react to other two tracks from Voyager too and know why is Yoo Kihyun called as the God Of Kpop.

I absolutely agree with you when it comes to single albums, I think it's almost always just abt the money, but in Kihyun's case it was definitely bc of his packed schedule. We (mbbs) have been asking for his solo for a long time and he had also expressed he wanted to release a solo album more than once but it never came until now (yay!), he said he heard the demo for Voyager and thought "this is it, that's the song" and he felt like it was finally the time to release his solo even if his schedule was so packed, so I believe that's why his album only has three songs. He said there's more to come in the future tho haha so I'm very much looking forward to it. And abt Hyungwon's OST, I'm pretty sure the rap parts were not done by him, although he can rap, I think it was one of his co-stars, bc he also acted in the drama this OST is from. Great reaction!
I'm so happy for this week, and also for you including member's solos, it's so hard to see someone reacting to Hyungwon's solo. Picture was his first OST and it's from a drama that he was on. At the beginning years of Monsta X, Hyungwon didn't have many lines, but since 2020 you can see the growth in his vocals, confidence and his is really shining now. A couple things I wanna say about my favorites from this video: what you said about Honey - going in with the wrong expectation. I wouldn’t necessarily say you were wrong going in lol. Sure, THAT song is not the hype that you’re used to seeing from him, but… that’s just how Honey is. He has EXTREME duality. More than any other member. He is a raging tornado of lightning and fire when he is on stage performing with the group, but at the same time… he is SO deep and emotional and special. As you saw with that video. And it’s amazing.
Second, Wonho is SUCH a wild card. And you’re right when you said that if he stayed with the group he may not have had as much of a solo career, if any at all. We never would have known all he was capable of. I don’t know if you have seen EVERY MV of his (he has some Japanese releases too) but they’re all SO different. There is literally nothing this man can’t do. He even RAPS in one of his bsides from his first album! Btw, his most recent one was a single album (lol 😅) and I think you’d really like the bside that goes along with eye on you. It’s called Somebody. But listen! I don’t THINK this release was so much of a money grab as it was… Wonho had a bigger release planned but he decided the other songs weren’t ready. (EDIT: don’t take my word on that. That’s just my speculation) He has another comeback coming SOON. Like within the next couple months. And he said the concept is gonna be very sexy and fairy-like… Like I said - wild card.

Monsta X members did two collabs with other artists for Pepsi. The first one is Hyungwon and Hongbin (Vixx). It's the Cool Love song you mentionned. I definitely recommend checking it out. But I love both Hyungwon and Hongbin so maybe I am a bit biased. I prefer the other collab though. The other one is I.M., Hyungwon and Shownu with Ateez, Rain, and Brave Girls. It's a bop and there's a part where I.M raps followed by Hongjoong (or the other way around) and just YES (maybe I am once again totally biased oops).
Also, it's okay to not vibe with a song as much. I love I.M., he's definitely fighting to claim the bias spot, and yet I did not like god damn. It wasn't for me and that's alright.

the song is about feeling loneliness and isolation from someone and everyone to the point where you isolate yourself and tell yourself youre fine alone, but actually youre desperate for someone to SEE you for who you are. changkyun is ofter misinterpreted as cold and obtuse but he's really sweet and calm and really intellectual, he has this amazing way of thinking i havent come across in a lot of idols, he's unabatingly honest and not afraid to express his opinions. sigh he's lovely

I am actually so glad that you have a similar opinion to mine in regards to Wonho leaving the group. I might be in the minority but as heartbreaking and sad as it was back then, in high-sight ( which is 20/20 hehe ‘one day’ reference ), him leaving the group is the best thing that happened to them.... I know, I sound crazy but lemme just explain myself. Wonho was extremely present in the group, he was one of the members that got a lot of lines alongside Kihyun and Shownu, leaving Minhyuk and Hyungwon with very very few lines. Maybe you didn’t notice while reacting to their older songs, but those two barely sing in them. Ever since Wonho left, they have a lot more lines and tbh I had no idea up until last year how great they are as singers because they never got the chance to shine much. Even with Shownu in the military, I love how much Minhyuk and Hyungwon sing in their last album No Limit and even without him, a MONSTER of a performer this group STILL stands 😩. Also, Wonho leaving the group set a fire under their feet to push further their limits and work hard which resulted in them putting out some of their best music, videos, choreos, clothes, etc, those past 2 years. Their need to prove that they still got it without him made them and Starship evolve to another level. Also, I am sorry, but Wonho is a superstar. He is a soloist, his work for the past 2 years proves it. The man was BORN to make his own music and perform according to his own standards and rules. He has too much personality and identity within his own craft and I can’t say I saw that as much while he was in the group. The only sad part to me is them not interacting anymore... that literally breaks my heart because their dynamic as a whole, is one of the best in kpop. I’ve never seen a group love and support eachother more than Monsta X does and Seventeen. Maybe that’s why they are friends, cause they are alike as people. But besides that, career wise, this was the best thing that could have happened to Monsta X and Wonho, I have arrived at a place where I thank God it happened because Oh My the music and artistry we have today is something we would have never had it had he stayed. So it’s really all about perspective. You can be sad that he left and stay stuck in that place forever or you can see the bright side and move on. I choose the second half. 🖤

What happened and is still happening to Wonho is very unfair to him and the fans. What I don't understand is why Starship, who fought so hard for him, fixed his issue in record time, kept him under contract in their subsidiary company, is determined to erase his history from the group now. This is most evident just recently when Starship blurred him from a recent video about MX history but ironically, included his song "From Zero" as an achievement by the group being the only MX song that reached no 1 in Billboard World chart. This achievement was made by fans as a celebration and support for Wonho when he was cleared of all accusations by the Korean police (smoking marijuana and stealing -- the people who accused him either refused to testify when summoned or were in jail themselves for other crimes).
I am happy that Monsta X is still doing very well but I really believe that they would have been bigger and even more successful if Wonho had stayed. They lost momentum when that incident happened. He also wrote, produced and was involved in the choice of songs to put in their albums and which title track to use. Their "Beautiful" album is still, in my opinion, one of the best kpop albums ever released and he wrote 3 great songs there. He was also the Center of the group especially on their legendary live end of year performances. As it is, he took his game with him and with his overwhelming charisma and talent, is now predictably, a very successful soloist. It's probably true that we couldn't have seen his true potential if he was still in the group. Our Honey, has struggled in the past (and perhaps currently) with anxiety and depression. The lyrics of his mixtapes are always very honest. He always wants to show his best to us but we get glimpse of what is going on behind curtains in his mixtapes. He's very genuine. I'm so glad that he seems better after his mental health hiatus right after Wonho's departure from MX. I.M is someone who has a lot to say as well, he's an internalizer and deep thinker. A soft and thoughtful person considering how people tend to view him lol.
Kihyun's love and soul is rock so they probably gave him a funk song and he said make it as much rock as you can to the producers :D he's been trying to get a rock song with monsta x since forever

Smoky & God Damn came after the Wonho situation. The whole group was mentally & physically exhausted, even Shownu lost so much weight and Jooheon had to take a mental health break. She who shall not be named tried for other members too. So these two songs are heavy with that emotion plus they cant talk about what happened either. They have a song called Flower Cafe that you may like and it's more light-hearted.

But they are monsta x songs and on there albums. So I just wanted make sure and let you know. And picture is from fly again which is hyungwon kdrama that he was the lead in. And hyungwon can rap but I don’t think he did the rap in picture. Other monbebe can correct me if I’m wrong. But hyungwon is my ult and I think he is the ACE of the group :) they all are but he is my ult so I’m kind of bias haha. Okay I will leave your comment section alone 😂

This was a great reaction and overall a good idea to focus more on each member. Some of them (if not all) don't get to show all their colors in the group MVs. I'm thinking of Minhyuk and Joohoney especially, who might appear very different in their group title tracks.
The songs I already knew were Wonho's, Kihyun's, and I.M.'s. The others were a nice discovery. I don't like ranking songs, even less if they're from different members, so these are my overall thoughts:
Song I'd listen to most on repeat (because of beat and general mood): Eye on You
Sweetest song: I'll be there (got me really curious about the TV series too)
Deepest and most heartbreaking: Smoky (I know Joohoney had this in him but hadn't heard it yet. So sorry for what he went through. I love this guy)
Most unexpected: Ongshimi (so much fun and we get to see Minhyuk's personality)
Best to listen to on the road: Voyager (dull comment but I do think it's cool to listen to while driving)
Inspiring yet boppy: Picture (I love the warmth of Hyungwon's voice, also curious about this series he stars in)
Most "controversial" and contemporary: God Damn (love how I.M. breaks stereotypes and boundaries and I just love his tone of voice)

I love smoky but honestly I don't listen to it very often because it brings emotions I don't really want to deal with. I think the other songs from that Jooheon's mixtape have the vibe you were expecting for. Anyway he is so good at basically everything.
