May Allah let rest in peace! Praying for her❤️ don’t worry, if she had a good heart, she’s in a better place insha Allah, hope you stayed close to your culture even after her passing and let our sweet and savoury food remind you of her
This looks amazing and so simple to make! We had Somali rice last night which we ordered. My kids loved it so much that they want me to make it. I will definitely try your recipe 😋 Mashallah amazing video and clear instructions.
Like your kid brother have said..... you are the man (Woman). 57 year old Somali dude who just learned how to rice and suqar for his wife. She loved it. Thanks Kid Sis.
This is the first video of yours that I have viewed, and it is very good for a few reasons. First, you don't use the "Food Pornography" approach where it's all high production value photography, a kicky background music track, and some physically attractive person who doesn't know a thing about cooking doing the cooking. Second, you don't waste my time by showing how to mince an onion, chop a pepper, mince the beef, etc. That is also meaningless food porn that anyone viewing a video like this already knows how to do. Third, you deliver all the pertinent information quickly enough to maintain the viewer's interest, but slow enough to follow without having to stop all the time. Very nice pacing! Fourth, your voice is perfect for narration, with a calm yet focused tone. Bravo Maestra! Now as to the recipe ingredients, two things should be said. Sela (or Sella) rice is a Basmati rice that has been parboiled. In other words, it was steamed while still in its husk, which does two important things for your rice dish: it partially gelatinizes a portion of the starch in the grain, and it impregnates some of the nutritious bran oil into the surface of the endosperm of the grain, which is the part you eat after the husk and bran are milled off. The combination of the gelatinizing and oil impregnating enables the grain to be more highly polished than raw rice, giving it a smoother surface and making it firmer once cooked. It also enables you to hold the dish much longer at serving temperature without the rice breaking down and getting mushy. The bran oil also imparts a slightly yellowish tinge sometimes; this is what makes Sela rice go rancid faster than raw rice, but it won't happen for weeks so if you turn over rice a lot in your household then you'll never have rancid Sela rice. Also, the vegetable seasoning you are using -- Kucharek -- is a cheap knockoff of Vegeta, a Croatian household staple that is virtually identical in every way. So if people cannot find Kucharek -- which they may not soon enough if the Czech Supreme Court ruling is enforced -- they should opt for Vegeta. It's a better product, anyway. Thanks again for this video, my friend!
I am so going to try this. I tried another version of Somali rice with food colour in it which was so delicious and this looks soooo yummy. I love Somali food so defo going to make this next 😊
Hello thank you for the video, I have one question tho, I can’t find the jumbo and the other ready made spices here in my country, what can I use instead?!
Jumbo is a chicken stock so u can use any stock available where u are. The spicemix is a combination of different spices ( cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black peppercorn, cinnamon bark/stick, green cardamom, whole cloves and ground turmeric) toast it in a pan for 5 mins. when cooled grind it all in a coffee grinder machine. Good luck!
