@@swts4k so, to get a US green card; you need to have 50k to invest.. it was easier for me to move to Canada than it is for trying to move to Kenya.
So yes!! African countries should have a special protocol for Diasporas from the West to move back to Africa

@@AfroJamaican It probably has something to do with your profile, did my application for the Kenyan passport at the embassy and it was processed under 1 week as a Canadian born. Both my parents are Kenyan not sure if that had anything to do it being processed faster :)

I moved to tanzania from Canada in January of this year. Residency permit in tanzania is for two years and a tad bit cheaper. It is wonderful when you find your place of peace
It is good that you detailed what you, an African from a country that neighbours Kenya, had to go through to gain residency in Kenya. I do not want to hear black Americans, Jamaicans and all the other foreigners ask why they should have to go through the process, or demand that they should be given citizenship on arrival. There is no need for anyone t assume when they see a foreigner in Africa, that he just walked in and was given permanent residency by merely asking for it,.
That's the thing. That's the process in all countries, you must prove your worth otherwise everyone will be flocking your country including criminals. Being black shouldn't make us deal with idiots who want to use their race to abuse Africans. Their assumptions is that Africa should have no laws, should be a jungle ....
That's universal - if it's outside one's country of birth
That depends on their intentions,if those people coming there to start a business, and create jobs for kenyans, it's in their best interest to let them in, they run that money off if they want too

Beautiful Weyne. As a Kenyan, I had an Ethiopian resident permit for one year through work. It was beautiful. Thank you for coming and accepting to stay around. I personally wish there was no need for permits between the two countries. It's annoying honestly.

The initial cost of $7k for just for the 1st year with additional $3k per year seems astronomically high.

I think it is easier to use your Ethiopian passport, whereby you enter Kenya visa free, and can easily extend your stay just by crossing the border and getting back in. Still reaidency is much more convenient as you can stay longer without need for the visa run, but is very expensive.
i actually do a visa run since i have ethiopian passport but still its better to marry someone and get dependant pass for 150 dollars, visa run is hectic and every 6 months i cross to uganda, tanzania or back to ethiopia, i cant wok though but i enjoy it here.

I am on this same path, I was try on my own for over a year!!! I don’t this the Kenyan government understands the benefits of having us move there.
It was going to cost me thousands in bank fees to move the 100K, and I would also have been paying interest on that loan.

Well, every Kenyan congratulating you is not paying attention to the minimum of $10k that U have to cough out for two years of permanent residency. As a Black African it didn't cost me half of that to become a USA citizen for life! You are young at this time but be conscious of unnecessarily throwing away your hard earned money otherwise, later in life you'll look back and wonder where the monies of your youth went.

I now understand why I don't see many Ethiopians in Kenya. The last time was in 2005 or so during the Eritrea Ethiopia war. The somalis lucked out. They were buying citizenship for $100 dollars in the 90s

Why would it cost money to extend your residency if you are investing in the country? This is really nonsense. You are creating job opportunities for locals. The first payment would be acceptable, but further every-year extensions for residency should be based on your business and should be free.
That's not how residence works even in the west.
I live in the UK and here you pay for the renewal of your residence visa each time you renew it even as an investor.
