Unknown - Till the End with just the reverb of Till's vocals is kind of an interesting experience, especially after Round 7. Imagine being in some kind of purgatory or liminal space (the Alien Stage concert venue but completely empty, for example) searching for Till in the afterlife; you know this is his song, and you can swear you can even hear his voice, but as soon as you try to focus on where he is, his voice is gone. (I may have accidentally provided the Ivantill fans a banger of an angst oneshot idea oop-)
the parallels between my clematis/mizisua and ruler of my heart in terms of instrumentation are so interesting to me now that i notice them. my clematis’ instrumental is built mostly on very grand, romantic sounding strings, with the piano supporting them. the strings are mizi, blissfully unaware and never happier to share the stage with sua. whereas the piano part, sua, is a lot more subdued, only used as support for the strings, second place to them. even the second half of the piece, where it’s mostly piano, the piano is very light sounding, and it happens to support mizi’s monologue. the piano fades out with the cello in the end, as mizi says “always be by my side, my clematis.” now ruler of my heart is the complete opposite, featuring a very strong piano presence from the start, this time with the (bowed) strings supporting it. there’s a lot of those dramatic dynamic slides happening in the strings, she’s crying as the piano taunts her. two somewhat related thoughts about this, but -round 6 featured piano behind ivan’s part, and the comic that came out after round 6 drew a lot of parallels between him and sua. coincidence, or…? -luka’s round 7 violin part may have unintentionally reminded till of mizi and hit like another nam flashback on top of luka trying to imitate ivan.
