You should cut a piece of metal with u shaped out of it to go under chimney flashing. The cut another u shaped piece to go over top of chimney flashing. That way it don't leak. Sealants will only last so long.
Yah. You’re right. This wasn’t the best way to flash a chimney. But we’re okay with it. We’ll be up there every year to service the chimney, and we can touch up the waterproofing then. Plus we have Grace over the whole thing. And ZIP below than. Finally, it’s an open porch, so low risk. But you’re right… it’s not the best way to flash a chimney. And we wouldn’t have taken this route if it was through our main roof.
