My interpretation of what LS was trying to allude to was that players and teams don't take risks anymore (because of lack of passion). Previously, we would have players known for their mastery on specific champions or teams with a specific playstyle they are known for. Drafts would reflect their confidence in their own champions/playstyle or their respect for the other team. Now, it just revolves around the highest win% champs which culminates in the same 20 champions being played every game. All of the teams and players just blend together and there's no longer any identity. Which causes the scene to stagnate.
A really big problem that is a part of it was the salaries. Pros were earning $1mil to do the bare minimum. Now their salaries got cut by a lot. Which means they have to do the same amount of work for wayyyy less money. They prob made that into an excuse for their lack of motivation. Franchising was a goddamn mistake.
You mean things like Bwipo forcing Urgot bans at MSI? Or Adam forcing the GODs into the Worlds meta? Or Keria completly breaking the Worlds meta and forcing everyone to adapt to him? Which the entire LPL failed to do? Or Milkyway doing his insane shit as a rookie in the LPL? Or Zeus' full lethality Aatrox, which just hits harder then all the other Aatroxes? Ruler dominating on Zeri long after she was patched out of the meta, winning match ups, that should be impossible to win? Just to name some recent examples from the past 7 months, that came to my mind insantly. But then LS has the habit of ignoring everything, that doesn't fit his narrative, so you are probably right with your interpretation. Just the fact, that T1 won Worlds by taking a huge risk and ignoring the meta, disproves LSs point completly. They would not have finished in the Top 8, had they obeyed the "Meta"...
I think this quote applies to esports as much as it does chess. "The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentleman. The ability to play chess well is the sign of a wasted life." Paul Murphy. I played a small indie rts game competitively in an esports league after 3 years was one of the best. It was run non profit entirely for fun almost like chess during morphy's time. Eventually you reach a point where you realize that you're competition is playing 18 hours a day every day. And that to continue being the best and maintaining your level you have to be okay dedicating your life to the game. Being the best is so much more than putting your hours into the game. You have to lead you're team, constantly innovate, evaluate so much game theory, find every mistake and every alternative decision. The game becomes youre whole life and you don't have time to meaningfully pursue anything else. You can do things on the side but it won't be anything special. I'm sure Perkz still wants to be pursue the game, but he isn't willing to sacrifice his life for the game. Let's be honest he isn't paycheck hunting. If he was he could have stayed in NA and still be paid millions a year instead he chose to come back to EU and risk his career on high risk high reward super teams with lower paychecks.
perkz would never be the worst mid laner in lec xd, orgs if orgs dont care and give jobs to dogs like saken i am all for seeing some1 like perkz over them
@@PostonPL It made sense to give a chance to saken. It didn't to Perkz. And saken got removed after 2 splits, Perkz has been playing worse progressively for 4 years now
I feel like a lot of new players (at least in the west) didnt got as good as they hoped to be and are now more like salary collecting and enjoying being overpaid. First player that comes to my mind is fudge, at the beginning he was hyped and eager to learn and be good, now he doesnt play soloQ as much and doesnt care what he is building and to take advantages. C9 is a prime example for that, they got Beserker crying because he is one of the few young players that love the game
I mean C9 kneecapped that entire team by hiring and firing LS. Hard to want to try when you’ve seen the light and then get thrust back into the darkness
It's because C9 wants their players to do everything together 😂 Work out at the same time, "team bonding" activities, corporate work meetings with the team, etc. If you're a player who just wants to grind the game, that place sounds so fucking annoying.
Although they could all be working harder lets not act like thats C9's issue. They're working 8 hours a day playing LoL every day minimum. The issue isn't work ethic its team identity. Fudge is still one of the best in NA. You have Licorice, Bwipo, Impact as the only ones on his level, and most pros rated Fudge higher than all of them. The rest of the team is the best in their position in NA. The problem isn't individual skill or work ethic its the fact that they have 0 team synergy and 0 macro. Imo the problem is blaber. He has the best laners in NA and the best proactive mid laner and c9 somehow never has a lead at 15 mins. They just afk farm and coinflip teamfights
A good example is lec pop quiz(of what u talked about)perkz was fking monster knew all the answer lore etc caus he was invested in compare to new players that haven't even watch the iconic games of world..
Most pros just pick up the paychecks which is obviously fine but the scene will only flourish if there is sacrifice and effort into pushing the game forward on and off the rift
Probably players who started when the game was growing felt they could impact and shape its growth, so they were more invested. Meanwhile the new ones come into an established and not growing scene, so they feel like they can't really make a change for the community and get disinvested...
It’s not a hard concept to grasp The love of the game vs a paycheck Some people are great at architecture and they want to excel Some people are better than average at architecture and they become comfortable with a paycheck
