I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and just purchased this lens. I was shocked at how light it is, "arthritis friendly" as I call it. This lens is amazing and it does inspire just like you said.
Very nice review, I have to thank you . I have a gen 1 and can't never get really sharp images until you mentioned that you shoot at F8. I tried and found a great improvement in sharpness. No one ever mentioned that little bit of information and believe me I search so thank you , I can use it again along with my 100-400 which is my preferred lens for hiking !!!!!
Good vid again Tom, thanks for it. I am using this with 90D now for over 10 days. Happy with the result. Alst I am satisfied after Canon old 100-400 failed to resolve the light over 32mp. And I got 80% misses. But with G2, got 75% hits.
Excellent review. Great examples, terrific photos. I am considering this lens for travels (if they happen) in the summer of '21. I like the points you made about the weight, weather sealing, and sharpness of the lens.(plus other nice features) I'm going to locate your review of the 3 lenses in comparison. Great job. Thank you for your efforts in putting this brief but informative review together. Happy New Year, 2021!
Thanks for the enjoyable and illuminating video. I purchased the Tamron G2 150-600mm in 2019 at the same time I bought the Z7 47 megapixel Nikon camera. I photograph sports events on the beach and the results with the camera and lens (with some tweaking in my PC photo program) are very impressive.
I have been investigating this lense for a couple of months now, and just ordered it yesterday. Your presentation makes me glad that I did. I'm still in the learning stage, and hope that it matches well with my Canon EOS SL1. Thank you!
Tamron It looks really perfect when version 2 came out. Have you tried the Sigma 150-600C? I have an important dilemma, which lens to get for the old APSC + Canon RP. I would use it for shooting wildlife, deer, birds, pretty much anything...but DEER first
I've had mine going on 5 yrs. now and I've taken a lot of good pics with it, won a few photo contests myself. I was actually looking at other lenses (Canon) today, some prime and some not and after watching reviews on them I came back to my senses and decided to stick with my big Tammy and save lots of money. I realize more than ever now just how nice a big tele-zoom lens. I can stay in one spot almost always and frame up on a bird. That's a huge advantage over a prime. And when you understand it, what aper's/zoom lengths to use you get better pics with it.
Finally, a great photographer taking great shots with this lens. So many reviews out there are taking photos with his lens and making the lens look terrible. Technique is key here and you have a lot of super sharp images. Great job. I think you just sold me. Thanks :) & subbed
Also get the the tap-in console if you get or have this lens or any of the newer Tamron SP lenses - for firmware updates and any calibration for DSLRs - mine was spot on out of the box. Especially true if you are planning any upgrades to new bodies or mirrorless.
Thanks for the informative video. Was debating between the Tamron and Sigma but I'm now confident that the Tamron is the way to go for birding/wildlife photography.

Hi Tomas, I enjoyed watching your video on the Tamron 150-600 lens. This lens has gotten good reviews over the years. The camera industry is changing technology and trying to make people buy new things. I am staying with the old Nikon technology and will do so successfully. Thanks for the review. I subscribed to your channel.
Would you recommned this lens for sports photography, where the subjecst are moving faster more erratic than maybe birds sitting in a tree? And how fast is the autofcous? Thanks for this helpful video, everything else about the camera sounds great.
Hi I have this lens, but I am always unsure which VC to have it on on I know 2 is for panning. I always shoot handheld so sometimes I do wobble a bit. Can you advise whether I should be in 1 or 3 please. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos. I am finding them helpful.
Currently I have the Sigma 150-500mm lens, and I was thinking about getting the Canon 100-400mm with a 1.4x teleconverter. But this Tamron would be a cheaper option, with what looks like crisp image quality.
I congratulate you on the perfect review of this lens where you point out the strengths such as weight and weather resistance. For the sharpness I agree with you that it is extraordinary and if it plays with lenses that cost over ten thousand dollars. I use it with Nikon D850, D7200 and Z6 bodies with excellent results. Cordial greetings.
Hi Thomas wonderful video👌🙌🙏. Have a question for you..can this lends work with Nikon D3500? I am looking for a good long range lens with this kind of range to work with my D3500.
Great video, thank you. I'm currently using that lens with my old 80D and a 6D Mk2. Thinking of getting a decent, used, 1Dx Mk3, any thoughts re: compatibility? Cheers, keep up the great work.
Tomas, I enjoy your videos very much,. I have a question about the Tamron. I al trying to decide. I currently have a 5D MK ll and an R50 and am thinking of getting an R5 and and R7. If for the same money I could get a used Canon 100-400 L IS ll or the Tamron 150-600 G2, which would you pick? The Tamron or the Canon? Thanks for your time.
Great video! Short but very informative! I have one like this, and I can guarantee that it really is a great lens! In addition to wildlife photos, I can make excellent photos like a macro lens such a detail!
Dude! Excellent lens review :) Also where did you buy your sweet polaroid jumper from? I want one haha. Thanks for sharing your in depth review it's fantastic!
Great presentation Tomas. I have been looking for a good wildlife telephoto lens for a while and this has made up my mind. I have a question about image stabilization. If the camera has image stabilization and the lens does too, will they interfere with each other if both are on?
Thomas. Thank for this video. I am seriously thinking of buying a 15-600 lens for my Canon 80D (not full frame, as you know) I am thinking of this lens or the Sigma equivalent. His has helped my along the way.
Great video thanks, I have the R6 and am trying to decide between this and the canon 100-400mm, any advice on which lens would preform best with that body.. thanks.
Great video. Does this lens work well with the 2x extender? I have the 70-200mm with the tamron 2x extender. If there's no auto focus issue with the 2x extender, this will be my next purchase. I will use it with my eos r5.
I really like my Tamron 150-600 G2. It has good weather sealing, price, and performance. I use it for birding and airshows. My only complaints for the lens: I've had to go chasing after the hood more than once when it brushed against my leg because it doesn't "lock" in place well. I've also had the switches change when then they get lightly bumped on a pantleg. I didn't have these issues with my Sigma 150-500 as the switches and lens hood were stiffer in operation. I can say that 2 pieces of gaff tape fix these issues, and it's not like the switches and hood are loose, just more susceptible to bumps. It's still a good buy and I chose it over the Sigma Contemporary and Sport, and the Nikon 200-500.
Hi I'm planning on buying a Nikon D850 with this lens for mainly bird & wildlife photography would your recommend this lens with that body.... Thanks Deb
I’m looking into buying a 90d for my tamron 150-600 G2. I now have it on my 6D mk ii. Would it be a upgrade, would you go for a R or RP instead? Thanks for your great vids by the way
Hi, I have a 90d which I brought a few months ago, I am looking to buy a 400 or 600mm lens, but I wanted to ask, would this tamron work well and give me sharp pictures with the canon 90d? I love doing bird photography, hope to hear from you soon.
My Tamron 150-600mm autofocus failed on the 1st day of a recent wildlife workshop. I've replaced it with the Nikon 200-400mm f4 and a Nikon 1.4x teleconverter.
theyre terrible i had same problem years ago . no 2 went after 3 months . my nikon 200-500 is going and going .. should have bought the nikon first .il never buy into tamron again
Mine does seem to have intermittent issues with the autofocus motor. I still have it but switched from Nikon to the Fujifilm X-T4 so there is currently no autofocus option yet for the Nikon to X-mount. At least not one that has been fully released yet. When it did decide to work, I got some decent shots including high altitude F-15's doing maneuvers overhead. It does get a bit heavy after awhile though. Now hopefully Sigma and Tamron can soon start making glass for the X-Mount system.
I have a " Canon EOS 70D " dslr and I want to buy a new "Tamron SP 150-600mm f / 5-6.3D VC USD GG ". But in the future I will replace my camera body with a Canon Mirrorless body. then may I use the same lens for both of them ?
Thanks for this review. Really helpful and great info also appreciate mentioning ethical photography of wildlife! Very important and isn't brought up enough.
I bought one recently second hand in excellent condition for $900AUD. I'm still getting used to it but it's a great bit of kit. I've got it on a 5DMk3 and pretty much always have a CPL on it and it's superb. Bargain.
its currently on sale here in Amazon for 1000€ in Austria (same price as Sigma 150-600 C) do you recommend it for my Sony A7R? note: we dont have these 2 Lenses for Sony E-Mount so i have to buy a converter to mount them on my Sony
I have this lens, i will try it at your suggested F8 to see if it improves on the sharpness. I dont know if its me, my camera (Nikon D5600 midrange I know) or the lens but i am not getting the sharpness everyone else seems to be getting :/
I just bought this lens fro Milford camera because of your review. Question for you - what camera bag will go well with this ? and I want to keep the lens attached because I won't have time or a good place to switch out lenses on this cruise I'm going on.
That’s a tough question because the lens is so large! The atlas pack is the only one I know I’d that you can customize to fit. Maybe give Milford Photo a call, they might have something in stock
Suggest you go for D500 + Nikon AFS 70-200mm, f/2.8G ll ED lens + X 2 Nikon AFS Teleconverter TC 20E lll. This combination makes your lens becomes 600mm, f/5.6. It is much lighter, doesn’t require tripod, just handheld. But, must have D500 body. You can used it for macro, portraiture, birding, wildlife, street photography, except for landscape. I have done away with my Nikkor 200-500 mm, which is extremely heavy, always needs tripod. This is my true experience.
I sold off my 1.4x teleconverter and 70-200 as I liked the extra reach using the D500. I've also found that after updating the firmware on the Tamron it works very nicely with the FTZ adapter on a Z7.
I have an r5 this lens and an 80d... Was thinking about the 32.5 aps-c sensor. I am keeping a DSLR for the quickness and i like an aps-c for the reach, but with the r5 now, the 80d only gives me about 1000 more horizontal pixels in the center of the frame than cropping the r5, where the 90d would give me about 2k more horizontal pixels in the same 22x14mm....
I also see a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD. What is the difference to the G2 and can I use on the 90D as well? Thank you for sharing your expertise!!
I own the g2 and the 400 5.6. (my machines are 80d and 5dsr). When shooting in BIF, 50% of the photos are blurred. the times never go below 1/2500, and ONLY if I find myself freehand I always use vc mod 2 (for stationary subjects instead vc 1 or 3). I realized that the biggest problem with this lens is the continuous refresh during the tracking of the subject (the autofocus briefly loses the subject and then hangs it up). This continuous refresh during the chase then inevitably causes problems when you press the shutter button, leaving you with a lot of choppy shots. With the 400 5.6 this HAPPENS MUCH MUCH LESS, because the af is simply better and more reliable. the 400 5.6 can be considered much more "sniper" from this point of view. the g2 hook the subject very quickly, but the real problem is that it is very hard to stay "hooked" during the chase.this G2 lens is suitable for stationary subjects, not for moving animals. success rates are low in action
@Tomas Koeck I want to start getting in to wildlife photography, and Im having a real hard to deciding on a camera and lens. I thought about finding a good deal on a used Nikon D500, but Im finding it really hard comitting to one brand over the other. As for lenses the Tamron 150-600 G2 seems like a good place to start. Would love if you could give me some recommendations.
For getting started, the D7500 does everything almost exactly the same as the d500 but for a much better price. I was also looking for a used d500 but decided to go with d7500 and put the money i saved into the lens and other gear. Couldn't be happier, it is an absolute beast for wildlife
Hi I need help I've got the 90d and the tamron 150-600 shooting in manual mode with it set at f6.3 iso auto shutter speed at around 1/1000 and my photos are really soft and when slightly cropped grainy
any suggestions for a holster / sling for this while on camera...ready to pull up to shoot OR make hands free to change lens while hanging on body? Also would help due to weight. THANKS
Hey, i got that lens 2 montags ago with the nikon d750, but i feel like most of my Images are blurry no Matter what i do, unless i'm not fewer than 3 or 4 meters away from the subject. Was that a Problem with yours or do you think thats normal? What should i do?
Thanks mate! I believe the Tamron g2 to be a bit more versatile, has sharper results at the center while the sigma has sharper results at the edge. You should check out my comparison of the Sigma Sport vs the Tamron vs canon ruclips.net/video/kZwYHDGeqro/видео.html

1. I messed up with the shutter speed numbers, longest I’ve ever shot handheld at was one second not two.

Great review, thank you! Looking at renting a lens for my trip to Norway, and this helped the decision dramatically.
Thanks for the informative video. Was debating between the Tamron and Sigma but I'm now confident that the Tamron is the way to go for birding/wildlife photography.

its currently on sale here in Amazon for 1000€ in Austria (same price as Sigma 150-600 C) do you recommend it for my Sony A7R?
note: we dont have these 2 Lenses for Sony E-Mount so i have to buy a converter to mount them on my Sony
Terrific review. I’ve been looking between this and the Sigma and this is in the lead right now.
Great work.
The Sigma will smoke this lens, Look up Toney and Chelsea RUclips video on these lenses I've had both Sigma will smoke that lens
One or 2 second exposures handheld ... come on ... :-)
on a 600 mm..haha
I have sharp shots at 1/6 of a second at 600mm hand held!
Thanks Tomas!
Good video but did you mention the aperture range and does this lenses have an image circle for full frame cameras?
Aperture is in the beginning and the lens works great (if not best) with full frame
Are you confused?
Eke van der Zee ...To busy to watch sometime just listening no mention of aperture if that's what you mean.
Cool! Glad you like your setup!
I find it interesting you shoot that combination... Have you shot with a teleconverter on the 90d?
I also see a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD. What is the difference to the G2 and can I use on the 90D as well? Thank you for sharing your expertise!!
G2 is much better than g1! Sharper, better built, etc
@@tomaskoeck Thank you! Cannot wait!
Thanks for this!
What if i put an 1.4x tc on it? The max F will be 9? Can the 90d AF work with that or max with F8?
*LOVE ❤️*
Great review, thank you
Hi I need help I've got the 90d and the tamron 150-600 shooting in manual mode with it set at f6.3 iso auto shutter speed at around 1/1000 and my photos are really soft and when slightly cropped grainy
any suggestions for a holster / sling for this while on camera...ready to pull up to shoot OR make hands free to change lens while hanging on body? Also would help due to weight. THANKS
I recommend black rapid straps!
@@tomaskoeck Thanks! Googling right now!
do you have foucing problems on canon body?
Nice shots. You might’ve convinced me to move up from the Tamron 100-400 (which has also been good)
You can’t go wrong brother!
Hey, i got that lens 2 montags ago with the nikon d750, but i feel like most of my Images are blurry no Matter what i do, unless i'm not fewer than 3 or 4 meters away from the subject. Was that a Problem with yours or do you think thats normal? What should i do?
Great vid Thomas, I’ll have to check it out
Appreciate it mate!
Very informative video as always. But just one question. I'd like to know why you pick this lens over sigma 150-600
Thanks mate!
I believe the Tamron g2 to be a bit more versatile, has sharper results at the center while the sigma has sharper results at the edge. You should check out my comparison of the Sigma Sport vs the Tamron vs canon

@@tomaskoeck oh got it, thanks. I'll check it out :)
Also the stabilization is better on the Tamron.
Could you recommend a budget friendly tripod for this lens?
Do you know if this works with nikon FTZ adapters? Seems like an incredibly sharp lens for birding!
Sorry mate I’m not sure as I haven’t done any testing with Nikon, maybe try checking some forums, I know you aren’t the only one who has wondered that
