- Stans is a very beautiful City and the Capital of the Canton of Nidwalden in Switzerland. The main sights of Stans are the Stanserhorn mountain and the Stanserhorn funicular railway and cable car, as well as, the village square, the church of St. Peter and Paul, the monastery of St. Clare, the Winkelried monument by Ferdinand Schlöth and the Winkelriedhaus. Also fascinating is the bronze work "The Girl and Death" by Rolf Brem at the upper fountain between the town hall and the Winkelried monument.
The Wikelried Monument commemorates the heroic deed of Arnold von Winkelried who, on 9 July 1386, grabbed a bundle of lances from the Habsburg knights at the Battle of Sempach and, spearing himself, opened a breach for the Confederates and helped them to victory over the Habsburgs.
The municipality was first mentioned in writing in 1172 and was attacked by French troops in 1798, as Nidwalden rebelled against Napoléon Bonaparte's new constitution.

I know very little about the Swiss, aside from Swiss Sight's videos; and I'm continually amazed at the attention to the importance of aesthetics in the towns like Stans. The woodwork in the cable car, the fountains, cobblestone streets, etc. The architecture seems to respect the beautiful mountain backdrops and the tour is like a dreamy movie set - almost too unreal to really exist. @@swisssights Welcome Martin , actually we have no more snow left on the ground around Montreal and here in Boisbriand and temperatures are around -5 to 0 at night and +5 to +15 in the day and often cloudy and rare blue skies
