June 8th, 1997. After a long day at Pocono, Jeff Gordon picked up the points lead, his 25th career win, and the 80,000 dollar Winston Leader bonus.
I miss this old coverage.....I was too young to appreciate how good this all was, the racing the broadcasters all of it. But I sure do now.
Eli and Buddy Baker was awesome.
They sure were slap happy for this race lol
TNN invented the idea of a top-screen NASCAR scoring banner (as opposed to a box), not Fox, who usually gets credit for it. This is especially true given that Fox now uses a box. NBC has always used the banner in the TNN form, with the drivers appearing page-by-page instead of scrolling right-to-left.
Yes they did and that Gopher Cam is really called the tread cam, and it was designed by the U.S. military, but FOX takes credit for that too.
@@evanwilliams6406 NBC Could use the pileon in their NASCAR Telecasts
Matt Yocum and Steve Byrnes: NASCAR's favorite dynamic duo!
They've got nothing on Bob Jenkins benny Parsons and ned Jarrett
Steve Byrns never worked when at the races his passion and love of the sport were always apparent.RIP Steve you ARE a champion of motorsports.🏁
I love the fact that WorldSport used what would go on to be WCW's Thunder theme in the intro.
0:10-1:00, WCW Thunder theme song (“Out to Lunch” by Steve Everett of Killer Tracks)! "Ladies and gentlemen, World Championship Wrestling presents Thunder!"
With the voice of Tony Shiavone
Who didn't love this broadcast team,Eli Gold Buddy Baker and Dick Bergeron solid gold!#🏁🏁🏁🏁
Buddy Baker wasn't fun to listen to but a great guy and always insightful
@@skooby_doobie_doonkann3334 have you never listened to him call on a wreck he almost makes you feel like your in the grandstands seeing it for yourself hahaha
Eh.. Buddy Baker was better with Ned Jarrett. Dick Bergeron wasn't bad, but he was better not in the booth. Eli Gold was better on radio. Nothing will ever beat the dream team of Jenkins/Parsons/Jarrett, but then again, we were all spoiled by them lol.
Crazy how we thought these pit stops were fast back then now they're done in 12 to 13 seconds.
I love Jeff Gordon great driver

Fun Fact: John Hunter Nemechek was born 3 days after the 1997 Pocono 500 occurred
I could listen to Eli commentate a golf event.
i dont even like golf. lmao
The 1997 Pocono 500 at the Pocono International Raceway was known for Jeff Gordon's 25th Career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory that was witnessed by GMA Network on June 9, 1997. This race was jointly produced by Television and Production Exponents, Inc. and SilverStar Communications, Inc. and simulcasted on Citynet Television 27, DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan, and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
dw in the lead 👍
That was a little excerpt from Ray Stevens "The Streak"
I was there!!
i was at that race.
I always get a kick out of how janky that pit road is. lol
TNN MOrotsports was the shiznit back in the day. I used to love their coverage of NASCAR. Not like today where SPEED exclusively covers the trucks which you cant get on normal cable without a sports package subscription. ESPN, ABC TNT and Fox covering various parts fo the season and personally I am not a huge fan of their coverage.
Yeah, especially the 1994 and 1996 theme songs!
eli gold is great
6:02 starting grid
Probably.
good racing at ponoco ty
2:37:15
Musgrave: NO TIRES JUST GAS!
Pit Crew: YOU NEED TIRES YOU IDIOT!
Derrike Cope 38th to 11th
But dick Bergeron and that hat lol gotta love it. Eli gold was a great host, not as good as Bob Jenkins but a great commentator
look at 2:32:13 its Chad Kanaus, mr 9 time himself lol
Garett Burns outside of being a driver, Chad has had the single greatest Cup career.
500 miles at Dover and Pocono on TNN back in the '90s would make you comatose. Not my favorite Sundays to watch a race at ALL.
