more helpful right off the bat than any of the "official" videos - just got mine i know push2 well i think that is better for some tings like auditioning, drums but need a "brains"...
Super helpful! I've been looking for a video on this concept. The only difference for me is that I want to program or play the notes\patterns directly into ableton and skip sequencing them in the sl mk3 first. So the only thing I would have to adjust is the audio latency when I'm recording the audio from the external synth into ableton correct?
Technically yes! However the reason I have shown you this way is to also correct the midi latency too. This way when you hit a key on the keyboard the correct amount of compensation is applied to replicate Ableton recording the note at the precise moment you struck the key. Important for some. In your case, yes you will get away with simply adjusting the audio signal from your hardware. However you may then run into issues if you start playing software synths to accompany the hardware in your project. My view is that if you follow these steps then everything should be in time no matter how you progress in your workflow. I hope I have explained this well enough 👍
@@jimmywheelo yes the info you provided in conjunction with adjustments to my buffer size and also turning off monitoring when I can get away with it should get me where I want to be! Thanks again.
Jim, Is it not possible to control the TD-3 cut off and other knobs with the Mk3 ? im not finding anyway to do that myself Great vid by the way, thanks for the help
Hi Thankyou. Unfortunately the TD3 does not respond to any midi CC commands. Apparently the new TD3 MO responds to midi for the filter so that's some progress
Hi Jim, Can't figure out how to connect my nordlead one and get it triggered by the SL can you help me out, i know midi out on the SL goes to midi in on my Nordlead but seems like the Nordlead is not receiving anything
Hi there. I don't know about the Nordlead but, do you have any other midi gear to eliminate where the issue is coming from? I'd try another piece if equipment to see if the issue is with the SL Mk3 or if this issue is elsewhere. I'm sorry I can't be any more specific but I sold the MK3 a good while ago now. I hope you get it sorted.
@@jimmywheelo thanks Jim, figured it out, the MIDI channel was the problem 👊🏻 sometimes you need a bit more patience in these kind of things 😂 It is a nice piece of equipment that SL and it forces me to get some of my old hardware up and running
I have exactly the same problem, and the track delay works great with external synths, but is there a solution when using VST's? It's the external instrument that seems to make it work for hardware.
If you have dealt with the midi delay from the SL that that essentially eliminates the SL as being the cause of additional latency in your VST. Hope that makes sense
@@jimmywheelo it's not the SL because I get the same latency using the digitakt as my sequencer. I added a negative delay to both in the midi settings, and it's much better.
Hi bud, been thinking of buying the Mk111, looks like a lot of menu diving though and a pain to set hardware and software VST up to as there's no midi control software for the Mk111. I'm going off previous video's I've watched Obviosly. How are you finding it? You sound like your from Manchester too:) Oldham I'd say...am I close??
Hi there. I ended up selling mine. I'm yet to find a controller that I'm totally happy with but I'm currently using an Akai Force which is my favourite to date. From my experience I don't think there is too much menu diving with the MK3. It's easy to navigate and understand. Setting up hardware is simple enough and there is definitely IS midi control software which is very good and easy to use also. Setting up VSTs is easy too (certainly in Ableton anyway) and the keyboard automatically detects any midi configured controls and maps them to the control knobs. This thing sells itself as a standalone sequencer which is where for me it failed. Yeah it does have 8 sequencer tracks but that workflow doesn't do it for me and that's why I sold it in the end.
Hi Anna I use the Elektron Overhub. Its a seven port Multi TT USB hub that works great. Many people say it's too expensive and there are good threads on Elektonauts which discuss cheaper alternatives. But my Overhub works great for me. In answer to your second question (if I have understood you correctly) I am not aware of anything out there that will completely eliminate latency. Even a Dawless setup would incur slight timing issues. I think knowledge is power. If we can understand the issue then we can deal with it and it become less of a problem.
I've been trying to work out how to use Ableton as a VST rack for 6 months! Thanks Jim! I'll give this a go tomorrow.
the most helpful video after searching for weeks! thank you
Thankyou 👍
Great job! Thanks

Can I use Analog Lab full software instruments as instruments on the sequencer tracks on this midi keyboard?
Thanks 👍

Hi, how did you run so many USB's into your computer at once and is there a device or setup that you might explore that would prevent the latency?
