I so needed this video!! My nerves are shot because of a kitchen soffit I want to remove but have a funny feeling it's covering a pipe!! I always feel overwhelmed when starting demo and nervous that I won't be able to repair whatever I am DIY'ing!!! It definitely takes COURAGE!!!!
Buy a cheap snake camera and drill a small hole and put the camera through it and take a look to see what’s in there before demoing and realizing after the fact like she did. Learn from her mistakes.
I wonder if in the slanted ceiling space you could install a smart baffle to fix a gap between the roof deck and insulation, put insulation on the underside of the smart baffle, then drywall. I'm no expert, but just in a bathroom remodel as well, we added baffles and insulation in a similar type spot. Also, I'm campaigning to stop use of the word "John" to refer to toilets. Your neighbor might appreciate it too.
I was going to post this but I checked to see if someone beat me to it. Staple foam or plastic baffle to the roof deck, insulate between the rafters, and drywall over it. The diagonal piece will look much more modern than the bulk head shaped piece and it will maximize the space in the house.
Too funny as I recently started to rewatch Skee-Lo’s I Wish - I can’t get enough of it. Great song. I’m looking forward to see what you do with the bathroom.
seen too many DIYers slap something together when they don't know what they're doing, so hearing you call in a plumber is awesome... the house I bought, the previous owners were DIYers and replaced all the outlets... I now have to run all new electrical in the whole house because they replaced the outlets and just hacked and spliced whatever, wherever... I've fixed the major issues, but I have breakers off in certain rooms
I have to say, I know other people have pointed out they like the new vlog-style of the videos but personally I much prefer the retrospective voiceover-style you previously used. I found watching you work while talking about it retrospectively in voiceover very interesting and more relaxing, in a way that these vlog-style videos don't for me. Maybe it would be an idea for future videos to combine the two styles more? Either way love your work!
I kind of like the medicine cabinet, was hoping you would repurposed it to another area. Always surprises when renovating old homes, comes with the territory. I have a 75 year old house so know all too well.
Looks like someone decommissioned the lav drain in the wall. It might be easier to reconnect it into the main drain than running new pipe. But that would depend on the condition of the old pipes...My daughter sent me some goods from Thrive and they were ok. They ship in very heavy boxes and packed very well. However one of my bags of pasta were broken open....They are expensive tho....
I'm 1000% sure you could have worked out the plumbing yourself, I've seen you do incredible things that most Master Carpenters would fail to accomplish... I've worked construction and remodeling for over 4 decades so take my comment with a grain of salt... Plumbing is easy and you are extremely capable so in future projects rather then doubt yourself, trust your instincts and you'll be fine...
Not normally something I would comment but let's be honest here, Melissa is amazing. Attacks every task with a good plan, sometimes makes some mistakes and learns from them and gets the job done. I am fairly sure this active lifestyle has many positive effects on her family as well, but can we all just focus for one second on how insanely beautiful this woman is and the fact that she's somehow become more beautiful over the last 5-6 years doing this? I am pretty sure her husband agrees. Anyway, well done. Be proud of yourself.
When I canceled my Thrive membership they refused to refund my unused membership fees that I'd already paid for in advance ($60), which made me very unhappy. The products are good but I prefer Azure Standard because there are no membership fees and they offer a lot of the same products, but for less. Sorry about being blunt about this because I know Thrive is one of your sponsors, but I want to warn people about the company.
Love the new blog style! Your conversation with yourself is exactly how I converse with myself. It’s comforting to listen to your thoughts.
Literally was going to say the same thing!
You are now the queen of DIY
This Old House needs to hire this gal
Wish you kept the tile. It’s so pretty and original to the home. 😢 Otherwise, your renovations are stellar and fun to watch. :)
You make 14:33 minutes go by so fast. I really enjoy watching your videos everything always come out super nice.
LOL, by far the most Gentle Demo I have ever seen. Good luck with the rest, look forward to seeing what you do with the space.
I am amazed that you work without wearing gloves to protect your hands!
Thank you.
I've said the exact same thing about the flat head screws! One of the worst inventions in the history of invention!
Yes, ugghhh
New approach and style ❤❤
Your talents are endless. You are so blessed

God I wish I had your motivation. Has taken me 3 years to do 4 rooms, and haven't even started on the yard. Keep them coming.
You're so calming to listen to..looking forward to next week!

You’ve got a point. Lol I’ll try to stop

Love that you got in a bit over your head - have you ever heard of trapeze artists performing "without a net"? Great work Melissa, very inspiring!
Awesome video! Great job!
Another great video. Like the new format too! 👍
You are soooo much braver than I am BUT get the great results!!
I found your video so helpful and so very entertaining. I've followed on Instagram but like to see it all pieced together. Thanks DIY Princess.

My plan is to publish vlog style as I go and a recap in the voiceover style when the project is done showing from start to finish.
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog Thanks for the reply! I look forward to those videos :)
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog I love this idea.

Still makes me nervous you wear your wedding rings. And your eyelashes are awesome. Too bad about the roof line. Didn't see that plot twist coming.

How come you didn’t put a cloth in the bath to protect it?
This is hilarous so fun to watch lolll

Why wouldn’t you go into the attic and see why the bulkhead is there first?🤷♂️
No crawl space
I'm hoping your motivation and "courage" will rub off on me. I need to remodel my master bath sooo bad but I'm so scared!
Sometimes it’s ok to let it go 🤣 nobody’s dreaming of it!
Hahaha actually it was picked up in less than a day after dozens of messages people wanting it! I was definitely surprised
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog a shoe for every 🦶
Whoa! 😳 👍🏼😊👍🏼
At least it looks like a clean bathroom.
Now in 4k

A commercial in the middle?!
💜
Shiplap the ceiling and add the fake beam to go with the real one
Yes I did have that plan until the roof pitch slant ruined it.

She’s so cute
Use gloves when doing demo, that tile can cut very easy
Second ❤
