- The band plays this tune written by drummer and New Orleans native Paul Barbarin, who died in 1969 while playing drums during a Mardi Gras parade.
Recorded on Aug. 26, 2024 at the d.b.a. in New Orleans.
Quelle fantastique tromboniste! Merci pour le partage, James 😊
Many thanks, James. Another terrific performance by this little group. For any musicians wishing to learn this Barbarin tune, I think they will find it's a 32-bar a-a-b-a-, essentially using the chords I - VI - II - V - I (like 'Button Up Your Overcoat', 'If You Were The Only Girl In The World', 'Memories', 'Oh, You Beautiful Doll', 'Peg O' My Heart' and 'Somebody Else Is Taking My Place'), with a Middle Eight of III7 - VI7 - II7 - V7 (like 'Do Your Duty', 'Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue', 'Girl of My Dreams', 'I Can’t Believe That You’re in Love with Me', 'Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall', 'Kansas City Kitty', 'Love Letters in the Sand', 'Please Don’t Talk About Me', 'Side By Side' and 'Stevedore Stomp').
Outstanding! I am convinced Haruka Kikuchi can hold her own with the best trombone players in New Orleans or anywhere else for that matter. Thanks for sharing James!
where is the no. six player
The full band is usually eight players. This was the last Monday in August when a lot of musicians leave town because tourism is slow because of the New Orleans heat and humidity. If you want to know why the band is called The Secret Six, Google secret six.( Hint: John Brown.)
@@JamesSterling Fundraising ( for John Brown ) was the chief function of the "Secret Six."
@@axeleast8632 Correct. An interesting read about who the Six were and what happened to them.
Wot no manspreading in this one?
