FedEx Flight 630 was a regular scheduled cargo flight from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Memphis International Airport, Memphis, Tennessee. On July 28, 2006, the McDonnell Douglas MD-10-10F operating the flight, crashed upon landing due to a landing gear failure.

You’ve gotta remember, Alec works hard to provide his viewers with FREE content, and he too has to pay his bills and put food on his table; when you look at it that way, one or two ads here and there aren’t so bad.

William Whittington and then there are some of us (I’m sure not many, but I’m among them) that pay for RUclips premium so that we don’t have to see ads. To have the video start right off with an ad like this was kind of jarring and a bit irritating. Other RUclipsrs are presenting their sponsor’s product with a personal touch and it’s not so “ad” like.
I pay for RUclips premium so I don't get ads and I donate to creators I like on patreon. I always skip through the sponsored bits of videos because I don't care about skillshare or audible or whoever. I'm watching for content, not a commercial.

I am glad that (for once) the NTSB didn't blame the pilots. It always amazes me how much is discovered through investigation of major aircraft mishaps.

Allec doesn’t place the ads, RUclips does. I have noticed with hundreds of videos that they do this now. The Flight Channel as well. I guess with people skipping the ads, the Advertisers aren’t paying, so now ads are freaking jump scaring you. Allec still has amazing content and is one of the best flight channels out there. Jumping ship because of ads is bs. Ads are how RUclipsrs and RUclips get revenue!

I was waiting for the bit where the NTSB found some way to blame the pilots for this as they seem to with 99% of other crashes and incidents even when it is clearly a maintenance or mechanical fault....glad to have been proved wrong on this occasion though

Be careful not to lose your core base due to lengthy ads, big turn off. Quick ad is fine, to a certain extent. Good day.
Almost a 40 year old plane will logically have increasing maintenance problems that will begin to compound on themselves at some point unless drastic overhauling can be done, and that is most likely financially unfeasible.
A study should be conducted to find out at what age is a plane (divided up by models and hours in service) unsafe to fly anymore instead of having pilots risking their lives flying old planes and only doing something after a few deaths have occurred.
The NTSB should start this study and publish a mandate directive for retiring these old heaps before a rash of accidents happen over the coming decade or two.
Fedex, UPS and other cargo airlines would have gone bankrupt a long time ago if it weren't for their "old heaps". What wears a jet out isn't age or hours flown, its the number of pressure cycles(aka 1 takeoff/landing is 1 cycle). Every time the hull is pressurized it puts stress on the airframe. Passenger airliners are operating planes on short haul routes 5+ cycles a day, cargo airlines operate 1 flight every night. Granted there is a lot more maintenance needed due to age, maybe better oversight is needed, but cargo airlines really aren't wearing out those "old heaps" that have long been retired from passenger duty.
@@aaronbays4 I understand what you're saying. And I'll even connect a couple of dots from your post fir you that you may have overlooked.
I could be wrong about this, but I can see your point about 'cycles" and pressurization , etc. And add to that the planes that do the numerous short hops day in and day out. From my 2 semesters of taking aircraft mechanical engineering and airframes before coming down with Mono and staying out of school for a couple of months... your post was right about the stress factors on airframes being one of the weakest links on all aircraft.
And those microscopic cracks that show up at connecting points like where rivets attach the sheet metal skin to the airframe iis one of a thousand things that they look for when inspecting a plane.
And cycles as you stated are very important factors in the equation of an airplanes health. Here's my one connect... passenger planes need to be pressurized for the passengers obviously. But do cargo planes need to be pressurized as much as passenger planes do?
I'm just thinking outloud here, but it would seem to me that there wouldn't be as great of a need for cargo vs passenger in pressurizing the whole plane unless there were animals or liquids in containers. Less cycling of pressurization might extend the life of the plane.
But back to my original point... I know the NTSB has been doing this a long time, and as things in accidents or crashes reveal themselves they make corrections to maintenance schedules and operating protocols, etc.
But thinking about these aging fleets of planes there has to be a time of diminishing values where the line would be crossed and you'd ring the bell on the plane and say "You're outta here!" because cost on replacing things would far outweigh the cost of buying a used plane again.
And getting back to the airframe, I do remember something about cracks and stresses being cumulative on an airplanes structure, mainly from temperature variances that are constantly being put on planes by going from ground level to the Everest death zone in the sky.
I keep thinking of that Hawaiian island hopper jet that the cabin behind the pilots just broke off and went flying off killing the one stewardess that wasnt sitting down and buckled up when it broke apart in mid air.
That incident I can assure you was caused by micro stress fractures from all around the forward fuselage that wasnt looked at close enough .
Anyway, I just hope they do their inspections right these days, especially now in this rush for de-regulation out of the Trump Administration.

I don't understand how maintenance would be involved in the stray nickle plating found in that gear bore hole, it is manufactured that way isn't that the job of the manufacturer to find flaws like this and correct them before the plane leaves the plant?
Did you actually watch the video? It was designed to not have the plating in the hole. Maintenance allowed it to get in there.
