- Hodgson tried his hand at a recurring "psychic detective" character and, as with Blackwood's John Silence, never quite achieved the charisma of the traditional great detective characters of the era. I wish someone had.
I'm not a fan of the denouement, but the centerpiece is uniquely horrible enough to be worth the price of admission.
Love the author, the story and
your magnificent narration that brings it all to life. Thank You ❤
I remember reading this story as a child & I still have the book. Hauntings - Tales of the Supernatural
Edward Gorey did the illustrations & cover art. The illustration for The Whistling Room was just as wonderfully strange, as you might expect. Thank you for such a lovely reading & bringing back such a flood of memories!
Really enjoyable-I've read this story several times, but thoroughly enjoyed your reading.
This is my Saturday night treat . Thank you Windy

Such a creepy author!
He’s a champion body-builder and sportsman. Quite a good looking fellow. Sadly, William Hope Hodgson died quite young during his second tour-of-duty as a soldier in France during WW1. He continued to write many poems and stories while fighting in the Western front.
