2005 Subaru WRX STI Gets Big Cobb Front Mount!

- It has finally arrived! Time to install the new Front mount on the car to get her ready for the dyno. So I originally ordered a silver core for the car but they were on SUPER Back order so I gladly took the black core as it will retain most of the sleeper personality behind this car. Remember the exterior of this car is almost 100% Factory. Anyway, this is probably one of the best fitting Front mounts I have used before. The price was a little more expensive that I would have liked to spend but with the availability of parts right now its very difficult to snag anything in a hurry. I do want to say that with any FMIC on the 02-07 WRX and STI you will have to do some heavy trimming to both the bumper and the car to make it fit.

Your excitment from the cooler sprayer was priceless! 🤣
Haha it's the little things 😅😅😅
I'm jealous of that IC sprayer. Converting a WRX into an STI, that's one of the features I have yet to add.
It's a fun feature to have, don't know how functional it will actually be with this set up 😅🔥
@@Smeedia should have just retained the hose from the pump and found your own sprayer with a wider angle.
I'm so excited that this build is almost done! This engine is looking more and more beast every video.
Yessss 😈😈😈😈
You could totally get some garden sprinkler nozzles and some hose from a hardware store, chain them together, and BAM: intercooler sprayer extender! Y fitting to feed both ends, so you don't lose pressure and have that one dribbly guy at the end... I digress. Looking badass! 🤙
Lol probably gling to do a single pipe with some holes in it, figure that might work the best 😅
When the notifications tell me Tanner provided us homies a new video update.
😉😉😉😉🔥🔥🔥🔥
That srt4 is nice too but I Still prefer the blobeye.
New fan. Been binge watching your vids on the Blobeye. Just got a JdM EJ207 V9 Blob. As my daily. I have a built R35 thats a but nutty to drive around daily LOL. I have been slowly making the Blobeye better, replacing and upgrading things. It came with some sweet JDM high end parts already so am trying to leave those as is. I dont want to mod it too much as the EJ207 twinscrolls keep going up in value. Learning a lot watching your channel. On this vid i saw you adding the intercooler spray to the front mount. I am just in the process of making my Top mount spray setup better. So i thought i would share it with you. Since its just simple vac lines you could T off or split them up and add multiple nozzles to hit that IC completely. If you lose pressure and it trickles out only. You can A) decrease the size of the lines, might increase the pressure…. Or B) get a bigger pump. They are just simple little pumps easy to find something at a wrecker or online even. Tough to know the specs of what would be an upgrade though…. And lastly hit up Amazon for new spray nozzles. Slap on some dual head nozzles. Something with a good Fan spray pattern. Maybe even take a look at some other cars that have awesome coverage and get their nozzles….. oh and any car that has Headlight sprayers possibly because those would be engineered to cover wide at close range !
Anyway love your channel. Keep doing what ur doing !
Jelly of that 35 you've got 🔥 driven a few of them before and they're an absolute blast! Ended up eventually scrapping the I/C spray idea a fee weeks after this but was a fun concept to play with 😅
How you liking your blob?!
The genuine excitement at the beginning of the video brings joy 😂
Bruh I was way too pumped! 🤣
I bet you could run some extra fittings and order 2 more sprayers to make the intercooler sprayed spray the whole intercooler! might try it with mine
Always love the subi builds. Keep the subi builds coming!
Always more to come! 😁😁😁
You should get a little three way for the sprayer and a couple more of the nozzles and have one on each end and the center of the inter cooler
That's what we're thinking as well! Would love to be able to fully utalize them!
Yessssss looking sickkkk, I have a RS Bugeye and I want to do some trimming to the bumper even If I dont have no turbo kit just for the sick look
Do ittt!!!! 😁😁😁
@@Smeedia sir yes sir just need the perfect day for that
Yeah fitment on cold side gave me a tough time. Small battery is clutch. That coupler for the upper and lower pipe junction is super tight. Nice fitment!
Those pipes confused the hell out of me for the direction they went 😅😅😅
Best series on youtube. EVER.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
For the sprayer you should put a T in it and have it spray out in two spots. If the pressure behind the sprayer can handle it.
Need to snag another sprayer 😅🔥
car is coming along beautifully , brilliant idea with the intercooler water spray. my 07 sti limited engine rebuld wont be ready till march 😔. cant wait for the start up
March is not too far away 🙏🙏🙏
So dope! Love following this build. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you! Cannot wait to get it started! 😁🔥
I am so pumped to see it all back together and seeing it fired up for the (1st) time lol been watching since the beginning and now here we are! You da man!
Always appreciate the continued support my friend! 😁😁😁😁
@@Smeedia I don’t comment much, but just know I’m always watching and cheering you on from the shadows 👀😜
Hell yeah man she's almost there! Getting new tires on my Bugeye next week and just ordered some Silvers Neomax coilovers to replace the 157k miles stock suspension!
I need to get new tires as well 😭😭😭 good choice on the neo max!
@@Smeedia What catback are you running? OEM or something like Invidia Q300 for some noise but nothing crazy?
It came with a greddy 😅🔥
@@Smeedia oh dang she's ready to sing the song of our people lol
Another benefit of FMIC (which I’m pretty jealous of) is that you can fit a strut tower bar, I have a big ass TMIC and there’s no way I could jam a strut bar in there with it
Very true! Some are hit and miss with the IAG AOS though 😅
WOW looking good mate, i love the black cobb front mounts :):)
They look so good 😍😍😍
ROFL! I love how excited you got for the intercooler sprayer lightly jizzing a 4x4 inch section of that massive intercooler. It's the simple things, right? Gotta love a sprayer tho for real. If the hole was smaller maybe it'd mist out more?
Haha it's the small stuff you have to love! Going to snag 2 more so it can fully be utilized 😁
Yes please!!!! Love these videos. And the black behind the black looks wicked and stealth! 👌👌👌
Yesssss 😍😍😍
DOUBLE UP ON THE sprayerz, what about a grate in the bumper to protect the intercooler? I d like a video on that
I may do a cover or grill on it 😁
Been loving your videos lately. You popped up on my yt Startpage and since then and i saw your 05 sti since i also got a jdm 04 Sti i cant stop watching
Eyyyy fellow blob eye! Appreciate the support! 🙏😁
Great content also quick question when you got your fuel lines done where did you connect the evap line? You talked about the feed and the return but not the evaporation line. Would appreciate some insight on that
I vent my EVAP out, normally I just run a line into the fender 🤙
Been away for too damn long but glad I was able to catch up 😬 stoked for the initial startup
Yesssss!!!! 😁😁😁
Maybe put a triple y fitting coming from the hose on the frame and have 3 sprayers across the intercooler? Just a thought. I can't wait for the blob eye to be done! It feels like I'm watching the spiritual successor to mine finally get done!
Totally down to try, I don't know how well the pump would be able to supply them all 😅🙏
I was looking at ETS's kits for my 08 Legacy GT. I hear good things about their piping etc fitment. I've also seen setups though where people have a short outlet on the top of the front mount and delete power steering and or AC to have a direct short throw to the reverse intake manifold. Thinking I might go that route with an electrically powered steering pump in the future.
That is what Matt was thinking about doing with his outback!
It looks amazing all in black! really well done! I did the same with the noozle in the intercooler but used two instead and a plate in L shape to hold them.
I have the one perrin FMIC you love so much XD, I would love to have the option of the intake box.
I need to add another sprayer to mine 😭 and Bing able to run the box is nice!
I got this for my 06 sti and have nothing but fitment issues. Extremely disappointed that I didn’t go with the ETS. The hot side is pretty good but the cold side is really stupid design with the big 180 in the piping under the bumper and the way it flows up. Really wanna sell it and just take the loss and get the ETS. I wanted a mishimoto but unfortunately they were out of stock for close to 6 weeks and I would’ve even rather waited for them. Not even tryna spread hate on Cobb just making it aware if u have a Hawkeye it’s a more complicated setup IMO then the blobs. I legit had to just walk away from it a few minutes ago cause it just isn’t lining up no matter how I flip the piping, couplers, clamps or anything I can rotate or flip it just doesn’t wanna line up correctly and I’ve also deleted the AC so those lines aren’t even a thought and the fuel lines are all out of the way, running the BPV/BOV blocked off for now just to get it lined up and it’s just not going. I had to have a friend push the piping that runs up behind the rad pretty hard to get the top piping pushed into the coupler and clamped on and it just has a lot of tension on the piping and the bumper keeps popping off. Maybe I’m a fucking idiot or something but I’ve tried damn there every way I could except taking the coupler off for the intercooler and swapping it with the manifold coupler so it rotates the top more. If I’m correct the 45 degree coupler goes on the intercooler and the coupler that’s designed to fit over the manifold goes on the manifold. Literally don’t even know where I’m going with this anymore. If anyone wants to give ideas, buy a Cobb front mount for a Hawkeye (all black) or commend me on wasting $1,600 on a front mount. Go for it. I’ll check back. If u made it this far you surely do have time on your hands cause I just wrote a fuckin book so with that time u could be installing a front mount on your Hawkeye. Has tiny spot where paint came off from the Mishimoto X line rad mount for overflow that I’ve thought about cutting off just for a little more clearance and hoping it helps. Idk. But For the right price and a little bravery, your headache could be just like mines. Kaaapowww 🤬 (I’ll cover shipping if purchased)
100% agree on the hotside, fitment is trash with that dumb loop. By bumpers never sat flush again with it. Coolant overflow was also a struggle which is why I ended up with the killer B one. The core and cold side are 👌 hot side could use some work. That one J piece had me tripping for a while which side was top and bottom.
@@Smeedia yeah I’m gonna attempt to fit it in there again I can see it’s kinda tapping the overflow bracket on the mishi X line rad but I really don’t wanna cut the bracket if I don’t have to especially cause I’m gonna have to cut it in car and it’s as new as the intercooler I legit installed the intercooler, rad and fans all a few days ago.
I have the same one! Quality is top notch!
For real! Kudos to Cobb on that kit! 😁
Yaa Yeahyauhhh. Loving that FMIC!!!! Nice job as always Tanner!
Thank you! And loving that it blends in so well!
@@Smeedia yea. You are making my pocket book hurt. Now I think I want to do a FMIC on mine now. Lolol!
Worth itttt 😉😉😉
Great video thanks. I dig the Black look. I really thought you were going to stay close to stock (keep TMIC) for this daily but then again, I forgot you’re an always all in guy! 🤣
I mean that was the game plan to start with 😅😅😅
You could get tee fittings and add two more sprayers to hit the rest of the inter cooler
might need a stronger pump for the extra sprayers too. might be too much extra work
Gling tonplag around with thr system a bit to see if I can keep it working properly 😅🔥
Cheap to check it out one auto parts store trip and $5 worth of washer hose and tee’s to test her out.
The beast is about to be alive!!!
YASSSSS!!! 😈😈😈
How would you compare the COBB FMIC vs ETS FMIC. More specifically on the 2015+ STi. Do you have specific reasons on why you chose the ETS over COBB on your 2017? Price, performance, quality, issues?
I originally wanted to run ETS, but seems like the COBB FMIC can fit a COBB Redline or SF intake which is a big plus. I know you did some custom fab with your ETS FMIC when you still had the EJ in the 2017, but I'd much rather keep the airbox as a whole.
More specifically on the 2015+ STi.
Thanks!
Even with the Cobb FMIC you'll still need to cut up the Cobb SF intake box a little to fit the intercooler piping.
Preferably I would go with ETS for the price, fitment is always spot on and a few hundred dollars cheaper.
Can't go wrong with either option though 🔥
@@Smeedia Awesome reply. Thanks!
Can barely tell it's there😎🔥 definitely gonna surprise some people thinking it's stock
It's so well hidden, I love it 😍😍😍
Its a sleeper subi
Looking good! That FMIC seems like a very good option.
Glad with the way it came out! Fotment was much better than I thought!
This STI going to be insane! Cant wait
🙌🙌🙌🙌
Did you have to remove the fog lights to make the fmic fit? Im looking at getting a fmic on my 06 and i kinda want to keep my fog lights but its not a big deal
What’s the pros & cons on front mount Intercooler? I’m debating top mount or front mount. I’m having a hard time on which one to get lol
dang man you are such a tease. I was hoping for maybe a longer video with the complete install and then a startup at the end lol
Still waiting on a fee things before we can fully start up 😉
@@Smeedia bet.
So excited for you dude. Been a long build progress. Hopefully it’s reliable and fun :)
Fingers crossed that everything starts up and operates smoothly! 😁
I’m not at all knowledgeable about cars but, I love Subaru’s. And your videos are awesome! I enjoy watching the consistent progress you make on your build.. I don’t understand 99% of the shit you’re saying lol but you put in a ton of work, make really good vids and I’m learning some stuff
Thank you and appreciate the support! I can break things down a bit more when explain what all is going on! 😁🙏
Hey man. I was looking at you fluid change video for the 2017 STI. I have a 2013 STI and want to make sure it’s the same. Also there are multiple part numbers I saw and like the ones you were holding in the video wasn’t the same part number as the ones you linked. I was just wondering what are the part numbers for the drain and fill plugs for all of them. So the rear differential fill and drain plug. Also the transmission fill and drain plug. Just pretty much all the crush washers you needed in the video. Thanks man!
Should be the exact same, and I've seen numerous part numbers, the drain shouldn't need any type of gasket but the rest all use the same crush washer. The part number listed should work 🙏
@@Smeedia Thanks! For some reason my nearest Subaru dealership gave me 803926090 crush washers. No forums are telling me anything good. Will this work for all?
Yes that should work 🙏
I saw 👀 the performance of your intercooler sprayer. Sadly the chances of it performing any effective cooling look 👀 somewhat bleak. The water 💦 dribbles out like a pipe with a slow spurting leak 🤣. Any spray is anemic it needs to be more dominant, it needs to be very fine. For someone as skilled as you to fix this should be so easy and dirt cheap comparatively to do. Perhaps 🤔 swapping out the pump and adding more heads perhaps one or two will make it operate like new. Look 👀 forward to see what you do. 👍
Hey... it works, kinda 😅😅😅
ROTO-ZIP............ BZZZZZZZZZZ. AWSOME Tool. There is also an extention wand for tight spots. When you buy the accessories kit box.
I NEED IT!!!!
I bet when you’re driving the spray would spread out across the intercooler, just my opinion.
😎👍🏻👍🏻
Might have to strap a go pro up there and find out 😅🔥
Duuuuuuuudeeee!!!!!!! That crap is FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Also if you check out Kino Sti channel he does a similar thing with the IC spray.
I'm so jealous that thing is gonna be a monster! Fingers crossed for the tune.
Going to have to check it out! And cannot wait for the tune 😍
I hope you do track days or something similar with both cars.
The 05 will definitely see a track, and the 17 will live at the track 😅🔥
It’s turning out so damn good
Yessss 😍😍😍
COBB & Killer B are 🔥
Yassss, fitment and performance on point 😍
Looks like Christmas came twice. What a great feeling. Have a question on fuel pulse damper. Going to throw on my radium fuel rails and going to buy the fuel pulse damper. Does each fuel rail get a damper??? Thanks and great video have a good weekend.
Yesssss 😍😍😍
Love the sprayer have you thought of doing some more plumbing work and ad a couple more sprayer nozzles on it?? Doesn’t seem to be too much more work snd the added spray could be a bonus
Yessir! Going to get some ordered 😁
Could have put the killer b upper coolent res on also, would look nicer.
Prob will later, goal for right now is just to get it up and running now 😁
I can buy that cobb coolant overflow off you !! I could actually use a new one. The Plastic one on my subie is getting old.

Man I wish I coulda got ya the fmic when Alex asked me about it! But ETS was all gone!
I gotchu if you need anything else though man!
For sure! Everything has been on suuuuper back order lately 😭
5:48 lol Tanner I laughed so hard 😂 easiest way to explain it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What are the two red circular things in front of the radiator? 🤔
If you are hardwiring the fuel pump, I just killed 2 stock fuel pump controllers. Once in my driveway and 1 I had to get towed. Wired up the 30amp fore innovations pump controller and it's been great. Learn from my mistakes peepole.
Am not hard wiring mine, haven't seen a massive need to 😅🙏
Matt had a similar issue and ended up being his fuel pump
@@Smeedia ya I tried that first but now I have 2 working 525 pumps🤣
I am digging the suede slippers u got on nice
I've only worn slippers the past week 😅 they're kind shoes lol 😅
I am sure they comfortable ..by the way I am a big fan love the content keep it up
Thank you and appreciate the support my friend 😁
Hey tanner, the studs that hold the crash bar snapped when I was trying to remove the bar, is it possible to replace them?
You'll have to drill and retap the holes but yes
Question tho... can't you change the nozzle on the sprayer so you have a wider spray?
Unfortunately not on this one, just going to add more sprayers lol
It's like a brand new 2005 STI
Shes getting there 😍😍😍
General question for all of you on the page. I got a 2019 sti that just grenaded with 20k miles on it. Im sure the dealership will fight me about warranty. Do any of you have any experience with the IAG built blocks? Im looking at buying the closed deck 2.5 EJ25 if the warranty refuses to cover this. They already said on the phone if its not 100% stock its void, and i have an AOS with an intake, so im screwed. And from what i can tell it sounds like a rod broke, or i lost a couple of main bearings. Thanks for any help. And love the video!!!!!! Time to get me some merch
Depends on your goals. If you are seriously planning for big power, then go for it. One word of caution though, if you’re putting 20k on the car every year or two and staying under 350 whp you’re much better off just throwing in a new oem block. No one ever talks about it, but built blocks have a much shorter lifespan. Assume that a built block is going to need a rebuild in less than 100k miles. If everything is going perfect.
FWIW, I’m running a stage 2 IAG block. It’s fine. I can’t say it’s better or worse than say an Outfront block. Talk to whoever is going to be doing the install and get their advice. Buy through the shop if you can, as IAG only warranties blocks installed by certified shops.
Btw, you didn’t mention, but if you’re running an intake you need a tune. Get that sorted whatever direction you go. GL and sorry for the shitty situation...
@@shaunpetersen256 Thanks for the advice. I went back to an older vid and rewatched it. I honestly dont ever see myself needing over 450hp. So i might ask about the RA. And def didnt know about the certified shop install, but it makes sense for AIG. Heres to hoping that the dealership has a little love for us tuners. Oh and yea i was running cobb intake, cobb ap, AIG AOS, and invidia exhaust. Poor girl never got to see a track day, or even some hard pulls on the street.
