  • I used two different overwintering methods for colocasia last winter. In this video I get them restarted (colocasia esculenta, white lava and illustris) in time for this year's growing season.

Hi there, TY so much for showing this. I buy a new Alocasia Calidora every year for very very large pots outside my front door . They grow massively. I never thought of saving the corm/root every year after frost.. TY so much for this money saving idea. I garden just south of Chicago in the States. Wonderful vid. 😊👍

Great video as usual. I decided to keep all mine in my studio at work at the end of last year! Massive mistake! They ended up covered in pests and were pretty much destroyed. I’ll definitely be chopping down this year. My pink China, gaogongensis,, metalica all survive outdoors now and come back with no help.

Hi there! Sorry to hear about the losses! I lost a few cannas in dry storage this year, no real rhyme or reason! But the colocasias seem to be doing well. My pink china isn't coming up yet but I've bought some insurance plants just in case. The gaoligongensis is one I am yet to try but I've heard they're hardy so I may grab a couple. Thanks for sharing, and hope all is well.

Thanks for the helpful video! An Alocasia I bought online has been delivered and will give the plastic-bag method a try with that.

Fantastic!! If you have any corms dry stored, it’s time to get them going 🥰🌿

Interesting video thanks👍 I’ve never had much luck overwintering colocasias, they always seem to end up with soft centres or just mush😟 Out of interest what month do you tend to dig them up / take them out of their pots for dry storage?

Hello there! I dug the colocasia esculenta up in November, that is the only one I dry stored this year. I left the bulb in a cardboard box in vermiculite and it was absolutely fine in there. The white lava and and the illustris were repotted and kept 'ticking over'. Aphids wrecked the foliage, but the bulbs/corms themselves are doing well and are now re-shooting.
