after every flush, I trim my everbearing mulberries back to 6 foot high. They grow a ton of fruit and stay a manageable height. Plus, they went through the hurricane unscathed!
My father in-laws horse got out and ate all the leaves and berries from his tree mid last summer, we all thought it might die! Within 2 months it was twice the size then spring and twice the berries! Very impressed!
Oh wow! That is great to know. I will try a harder prune next year and see what it does!
HORSE PRUNING.
@@Crudeoil794 Now I gotta get a horse. ;-)
@@lonniepee9804 lol

i tested many ways on propagating mulberry, best fastest and most succesfull way is leaving 3 nodes above soil and 2 - 3 nodes below soil, ''remove all leaves'', keeping them wastest some of there energy. within 4 days u can see the buds form and in 10 days u can see leaves.
An hour or two ago, while mowing my grass, I picked a small berry and upon tasting found that it was fairly sweet. So, I watched a bunch of videos and decided that it was a mulberry. This is the second of your videos that I've watched; the first being the trick from the filipino farmer. I'm excited to get started harvesting and taking cuttings. I'm in SW Missouri, which is in Zone 6b. Thank you.
I just went back out to give them a taste, now that I know that they're not poisonous and noticed that the tree is twenty feet tall with a spread of twenty feet. It's like two trees 'cause it's forked at the ground. The lower branches droop to two feet off the ground. WOW, what a score. It's getting dark so my picking aim was a little off, which resulted in knocking off as many as I ate, and they're really sweet. LUM, LUM, LUM ❤ ;-)
WOMAN! I love this channel! I would probably be considered a master vegetable gardener in Virginia, moved down to citrus county Nov. 2014 and Florida just kicked my gardening a$$ for the first 3 years. 🤣 I'm slowly relearning how to grow food down here. You are a great help. Thank you so much for your time and effort. I think we are talking different variety of mulberries compared to Virginia. Similar leaves but Virginia's trees leaves are quite a bit larger. utube needs to put in a two thumbs up button 👍👍
You are so sweet! I'm so happy my videos are helping you!
We are in west central Georgia Zone 8. We were blessed to buy some land with an American red mulberry tree on our land. This thing is at least 35 feet tall and 25 feet wide. Fortunately for us it had been pruned to have lateral branches so a tarp or sheer cloth stretched/tied on a rectangular posts elevated about two feet. Makes them easy to harvest and the black fall first while there are still red and white berries to ripen. Freezing after a water rinse is best for storage. They won’t keep long in refrigeration so that’s why supermarkets don’t stock them. I like the propagation technique. I bought a Pakistani black mulberry about a foot and a half. The fruit is supposed to be a 1.5 to 2.0 inches long. Can’t wait !
Just found your channel from this. Excellent info. My dad has a botany degree and he agreed with you 100 percent. He said for fruit bearing trees you should prune it so "a bird can fly through it" whatever that means.
I remember my neighbor having two over grown mulberry trees as a kid. I remember how amazed I was to pick berries and eat them straight from the tree. I want that for my children and possibly grandchildren. I purchased two cuttings, Black and ever bearing. Glad to have came across your video! So insightful.
I did this before I found your channel. I found the ones directly in the ground did better than the ones I put in pots.
Central Florida 9b, here. I'm brand new to this. I have a Thai mulberry that I just bought four days ago in a 7 gallon pot. It is full of berries. I harvested my first yesterday and got twice as many today. They may not be as juicy as some berries, but I think they're twice as delicious. Some are pure sweet, which isn't my favorite. Some are tart, good, but not my favorite. Most have that acidic sweet kick that's just the perfect combination. I'm the Goldilocks of Mulberries, I guess.
Anyway, I plan to transplant them into the ground once this flush is done. Although I could probably get another crop out of them, I don't want to prune them and transplant at the same time because I think it would be too stressful for the plant and I feel transplanting is more important. I'm planning to do a pretty severe pruning in the Winter, cutting the branches about halfway back and losing any that cross or aren't going in the directions I want.
Like I said in the beginning, I am brand new to this. If anyone sees a problem with the way I'm planning to do this, please let me know. I know I have a lot to learn.
Last thing, if you're ever near the Orlando/Kissimmee area, it is so worth it to take a drive to Nick's Edibles in Saint Cloud, Fl. You can find him on Google and the directions work perfectly. He has so many amazing tropical and exotic trees. He's who I got my mulberry from. I also got a Purple Possum passionfruit, a Mysore raspberry (for my hubby, he's a raspberry addict), and a Namwa banana. He probably has about 15 varieties of banana. He also has sapodilla, jaboticaba, lychee, longan, ice cream beans, peanut butter fruit, ackee and traditional stuff like peaches, bananas, pears, etc. I can't list them all because I'd be doing it for way too long. He's also super knowledgeable and very friendly. His dog is friendly, too! His phone number is listed if you Goggle "Nick's Edibles". Give him a call and see if he has what you're looking for before making the drive. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, he's the most likely person I know to be able to get it.
I'm up in Sanford. I recently heard about Nick's Edibles. I might make the trek down there to check it out, based on your recommendation. Best of luck with your mulberry plant. I just got mine in the mail, yesterday. Hoping I can keep it alive this summer.
@@yournewbestfriend8149 Nick is great! I highly recommend him. Even though I'm new to fruit trees/bushes/vines everything I got from him is thriving. He also told me how to cultivate more of the raspberry and mulberry.
Thanks for the well wishes. I also hope your mulberry thrives for you. It's been a hot and dry Summer until this week. It's nice to have a large plant that's already established. Gives me a bit of wiggle room if I make mistakes.
My question made it into the video! Lots of other great questions too! Thanks for the great info! 😁
Yay! Yes, it did! You are so welcome :D
My everberring mulberry is in a 24" pot and doing really well. Its in full sun, producing a lot and the leaves look really healthy. I struggled with brownish stains on the leaves for a long time (my tree is 2yo, bought is as 12" rooted cutting), nothing I did worked until i decided to ck the soil ph, it was on the higher end of normal, i gave it some organic acydifier to lower the ph a bit following the package instructions, after a few weeks, the brown spots disappeared. They're so easy to cultivate and they loooove being pruned.
This legit is the best guide on whole RUclips for growing mulberries. Keep up❤
Hello from the other side of the state. I just acquired two elderberry plants and one ever bearing mulberry. They are going in the ground tomorrow (Labor Day). Soooo excited. Thank you for all of your excellent advice and sharing your experiences. So glad I found this channel.
Planted large Everbearing trees in June last year and harvested our first crop in the fall last year.. We do like them. You had spectacular yields.!
That is exciting! Congratulations on your first crop of mulberries!
Mine died back all the way to ground level and it was about half an inch thick tiny twigs. In one season it grew 8 ft. This is going to be my 3rd season this year so I’m excited and expecting a good harvest. They are very fast growing plants
Thank you for the information we appreciate what you do
My easy method is to wait until late winter when it's dormant. I cut a stake 18" long and drive it 12" in the ground. I get close to 100 percent success with everbearing, a little lower with black or white. The success rate for me is much lower any other time of year.
Thank you, great report on mulberries.
This video was so helpful! Thanks so much for answering my questions! I’m so excited to get a mulberry tree and try the berries. It’s great to know they are so easy to propagate and get fruit from within a short period of time compared to other fruit trees. Thanks again for sharing!!!
You are so welcome!
I am picking up my Mulberry tree this week. I also have other dwarf fruit trees to plant. When is the best time to plant (Orlando 9b) and how close to structures can they be planted (like shed, fence, house)? I have a small yard and have several trees to plant (dwarf: 3 mangos, 1 namwa, everbearing mulberry...and: Barbados cherry, dragonfruit, and starfruit, and maybe a peach). I also have moringa growing from seed and will need to be planted.
Love your videos! I'm blind, and you are very descriptive, so i feel confident i can do this. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!❤
Great! Tx for this video been wondering about Mulberries for awhile!
Glad it was helpful!
I cut mine back and take the limbs and put in pots as I give them away and it makes my original tree grow even bigger , it is huge and it is loaded with berries every year
Great info. Thanks for sharing. Just got your growing guide. Didn't realize it was a garden planner, nice touch.
SMALLER LEAVES QUESTION: I’m right outside Boston (and have jets just like you) and my neighbor has a mulberry tree (why I’m watching this video) he said so can take cuttings. The tree is about 25’ tall and the leaves are much smaller than any I’ve seen in videos. It appears the tree is growing a second crop this season. Amazing.
Great question and answer video very helpful. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for educating us on Mulberries.
You're welcome!
Another great video, thanks.
Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Lots of good info. Thanks.
I have a black everbearing mulberry
Thank you very, very much for such a great and informative video. I learned a lot! You are GREAT!!😊👍👍💖💖💖

Glad it was helpful! 🥰
Great video. I am in 10B Florida. So i informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Just subscribed even though I’m in SoCal, 45 minutes north of Los Angeles.
Great job 👏
Very easy to grow. I bought 18 cuttings of ever bearing dwarf mulberry and they sent me 22 of them. I put them in water for a few days and they started push out roots. From there they were put in small pots. All of them grew. now I have small trees for home (zone 10) and camp (zone 8). I also cut off 4 of them and grafted Pakistan mulberries to the ever bearing root stock.
OH neat! I'm curious what will happen with the pakistan on the root stock!
@@WildFloridian I am hoping it will stay small with Pakistan fruit. Time will tell. It has been a success up to now. Graft took well and they are about a foot tall.
Oh man that’s a brilliant idea!
Is it possible to grow the Pakistan variety in south Florida without grafting?
Random: Farmers in Southern Vietnam who lives near brackish water will graft a soursop sapling onto a pond apple rootstock. Pond apples do very well in fresh or brackish water, and soursops trees cannot tolerate salt.
@@nobull772 I've seen Pakistani mulberry trees for sale at my neighborhood Home Depot. They where about 6 ft. I don't think they would sell something that doesn't grow locally.
Where did you purchase the cuttings, please? We'd like to buy some dwarf ever bearing now that we've seen this RUclips 😊
You mentioned that you have a mini food- forest. I have been very interested in doing that myself. I live in South Georgia and have about 5 acres of land.
Wow great video. I just ordered a everbearing dwarf mulberry. This will help alot when planting it. I love propagating new plants. Thanks
Where did you order from?
@debbannon354 I don't remember where sorry. Just google everbearing dwarf mulberry and it will show you alot of choices
Terrific video!! Learned so much! Wanting to try propagating from our mulberry tree now that we've tasted how delicious the berries are this year.
Any suggestions of where can we buy cuttings of the dwarf ever bearing kind?
Thanks!!
Thanks a lot for your videos, they are very good! Is there a particular moon phase time to make the cut and plant it?
Thank you !
Welcome!
This vidieo was so helpful
I’m so glad 🙂 🥰
You're awesome! Is there any benefit to planting mulberries from different sources near to each other. I'm thinking about pollination and having all of my bushes sourced from the same original tree. SHould I have another tree nearby that is from another source... say, a tree from another part of Florida, but of the same variety. You are a joy to watch and a wealth of information. Thanks.
I’m new to mulberries. I have 2 dwarf everbearing here in zone 10a. They were maybe 4 ft tall when I planted them in the garden this past spring. They must like the spot bc they took off and now they’re almost growing above the roofline. I’ve been shy about pruning. I heard you should wait until it gets colder. Anyone have thoughts on this? They kind of sprawl out so I’d love to give them a prune but don’t want to harm them. The birds and I did get some fruit already from them. Looking forward to more next year. Thanks for the video and sorry for the long comment.
Wonderful question! I'm always hesitant to prune... so I always give a light prune the first time and then go more and more each round. Mulberries are supposed to take hard prunes... so take off 10% to 33% and you should be fine.
I'm located in 10b and have an everbearing. I can hack it all I want and it still produces and grows like crazy. I wouldn't worry much about pruning.
I never seen any propagator guru use such small diameters cuttings . I will give it a try
I have hard wood cutting in a pot .
Good grief look at those bananners😍🍌🍌🍌!! I came here for mulberry knowledge, but please do tell about those amazeballs banana's behind you!😍 Have a huge mulberry tree we inherited on our new property. 🙌♥️
I have tons of banana videos! Tons of tips there for bananas
I listened to this one to see if you answered my question of when do you prune and will the fruit all year. So I now know the fruit in the spring and fall but I still don’t know when to prune. I’m in zone 10a in Southwest Florida if that makes a difference.
Is there a way to easily tell if you are overwatering an everbearing mulberry?
thank you
You're welcome 😄
You should get some dewberries, if you don't already have any. They are wild here and do well with a little fertilizer they produce great berries!
OoOoOo! I'm researching now! Ok! I'm intrigued!
Another awesome video!! Just transferred a potted mulberry to my yard. It’s about 6 ft tall. How much and how often should it be watered? I’m in Florida zone 9. Thanks!!
My sprinklers get it twice a week and that seems to be plenty. Might do an extra water or two in the first week. They are very resilient/aggressive rooters.
Is there a certain time of year that's best to do this propagating ? I just got two mulberry's dwarf ever bearing I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!
Who loves this? Meeeeeeee!
The small leaf short mulberry type is a dwarf Everbearing mulberry it also has tiny berries. It is different from Illinois Everbearing mulberry.
Very educative video. I have some cuttings and planning to plant them. Please advise: 1) Did you experience ants around the mulberries? If yes, what do you do to get rid of them? 2) I believe deer eat the leaves of the plant. Do you have any other recommendation other than putting fence around?
Thank you! I didn’t see any dramatic difference in ants between the mulberry area and other areas, but there were ants in the area. Yes deer and goats and such can eat the leaves. I don’t in particular have recommendations since I live in the city. Deer eating the leaves isn’t an issue once the plant is established.
I live in Northern NV and discovered I have a Mulberry tree! Just noticed the flowers (dry and crunchy)...I don't know if it will one day produce edible berries, but the tree is beautiful so I will try and create more. We get freezing winters w/snow. Do you think it would be better to propagate in fall or spring?
does mulberry grow well in pots?
yes ofc, ive been gorwing them for more then 1 year in pots they give me fruits and have been groing well its almost 6ft tall and produced fruit this year for the first time, fertilizer? i just add compost when growth is slow or once every 2 months
I’m from Michigan and want to do this at my hunting spot. In the spring April/May can I go out there and snip cuttings, scrape the bottom of the cutting to expose green then plant in the ground? Thanks
What kind of palm is the big curled type in the background at the very end of this video? I love them and want to plant them to block the view of my neighbors property along with some red bannana in front of the large curly palms. (Ocala Florida)
Hi. first I wanted you to know - I think you are amazing and have loved you since I found you. I have shared you with a group I started (1600 strong) in next door trying to turn Miami into a huge butterfly garden - house by house.
So, I have a quick question. I planted a mulberry bush before I knew what it even was. However, it bloomed this year (amazing) but I realized it’s not in the best location because it’s kind of crowded between, over and under other bushes. I live in South Miami and my garden is rather small but full of (butterfly) plants. I’m wondering if I can move that mulberry bush without killing it. It is about 5 feet tall now. I want to start trimming and propagating after having watched you talk about the information you learned from the farmer in the Philippines… but thought that moving might be better done before pruning.
Thank you for all you’ve taught me… ❤❤❤
To Melissa west of Gville…by any chance did you buy it in the nursery off newberry rd? Because i did, and mine is also a small bush with small leaves and several trunks, again, more like a bush. I have several mulberries and all except for this one are large leaf and single trunks. I’ve yet to get any fruit and it hasn’t really grown either. Great question!
Thank you!
👍
What would you do with a mulberry tree you bought that has a circling taproot, like a giant spring? Can you cut that root back as long as there are feeder roots? It's about 6 feet tall and came in a 3g pot.
well i guess im growing mulberries now 😁
LOL! You'll love them!
Where do you buy everbearing? Local nursery?
I ordered some white , king shatoot cuttings. I'm reading online about them and their root system. Do mulberry roots tear up sidewalks, driveways, attack to water pipes, etc?
im nervous to plant my mulberry tree in my yard after reading about them possibly choking out water and sewer lines. Also if I did it would be in the southeast corner of my lot farthest from the house. What do you think about this? Does it need protection from winds? I am in Saint.Pete too.
I'm in North Florida near Gainesville, do I have to worry about hard freezes?
I learned that I have a mulberry tree on my property last year, it didn’t fruit though (only like one-three berries, that’s how I knew it was a mulberry 😬) how do I get them to fruit? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
*thanks for sharing how to propagate it!😀
Try giving it a 30% prune.
when you cut it back it bushes out the next year
The problem here in Michigan is that the deer and woodchucks will destroy any mulberry plant that’s not a fully grown tree.
Where do you get the blue spiral stakes from?
My Son took cuttings and is rooting them in hydroponics.
Hello. I just found a small mulberry everbearing plant in the store. Can you tell me what kind of soil to put it in?
I have a 10 week old 2 ft high mulberry stick that only has leaves. When can I expect some branches to form?
Is this the variety that produces long fruit??
My. Mulberry is i have black tips on leaves Is it diseased?
Right now... it is probably just due to the colder days.
This is easy.
1. Cut branch
2. Stick in ground.
Whenever I do cuttings and they start budding, they grow fruits instantly with those buds, so it basically takes no time for it to fruit lol obviously, the cuttings MUST be from an already adult tree that is known to bare fruit.
It is 21 minute video so I screen such real fast to see if I want to watch it all. You had very good information on selecting cuttings.
but I am in Florida, Northwest Florida and blue berries just do fine here and their wild relatives are also common in the woods. You just say everbearing mulberries. you likely need to specify. You do not. Illinois everybearing is notorious for being difficult to start from cuttings, but I might try what you do and see if it makes a difference. But anyway I did not finish the video.
I also have hicks and some others that I could propagate.
one year old is tall and lanky. Can you prune them to make them branch out more?
I use Muck water>>>and just leave it in till it draws out the roots>>>depending on the temperature>>>depends on how fast the roots draw out>>>so you could put them on a heat mat to speed up the process...Keeping a bucket of rain water all year long will aid in this process>>I keep at least on bucket for this purpose...EVERY YEAR
I thing I have the same variety of mulberry of what you have. I’m worry about the roots because mine where growing on the side horizontally . Will damage my concrete close to it.? Thank you
I can not speak to the damage it may or may not cause.
I have a white mulberry and this year it has taken off and is probably 20 ft tall. About 5 years old. I have hardly gotten any fruit from it because the squirrels or birds get them and now most of the fruit is way over our head. How do you solve the getting fruit off the tall tree and preventing birds and squirrels from eating all the fruit?
That is so frustrating! We pick daily. The high up berries are for the birds and squirrels. I'm using a large mosquito net right now to shake the tree and get higher fruit. Here is the link to what I purchased (not affiliate) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QRL4FYL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a black ever bearing mulberry. I live in Colorado. I planted my tree last fall, and this year, it came out at the bottom. Is that normal?
I just bought a mulberry from a local nursery. But no one knew what type. How do I figure it out?
Are morus rubrus ever bearing? Aka Texas Mulberry
Cây nầy có thể trồng ở vườn mà mùa đông nhiệt độ xuống 10 o F không bạn ơi?. Tôi thích cây nầy lắm. Tôi vừa mới mua được một cây. Cảm ơn bạn rất nhiều.
Yes it can! There are varieties that grow in colder climates. The everbearing Mulberry is native to Illinois in the USA and it gets to 10 deg F! You may see some die back when it is younger but plant after last frost so that they establish strong roots so that the mulberry can make it through the winter. Best wishes! 😄
@@WildFloridian ..Rất vui khi nhận được câu trả lời của bạn. Cám ơn bạn nhiều. Chúc bạn luôn khoẻ.
Just prune your mulberry & remove the leaves, fertilize & should be fruiting in 45 days.
My mulberry tree stem become yellow and the leaves are going to yellow too ply please help me what should I do thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Can u give me some updates on your mulberry tree now?
Hi do iguanas eat them?
There is a variety that is illegal in Texas because its invasive. The berries start off green instead of red like a Texas Mulberry.
I would love to get so much mulberries that they stain my driveway. That's the kind I am looking for.
Do fruiting Mulberry trees need a Male tree around to pollinate the female fruiting tree?
The only thing I can think is that something stunted it. It's a cutting so I know the parent, it's 30 foot tall and the leaves are Huge! The friend who gave me the cutting is just as confused as us. Hard prune it is 🤷♀️
Thank you for the video, you've certainly cleared things up. After seeing yours I can't believe I waited 3 years
Oh wow! That is super weird. I agree with you... maybe time to start over.
Morus Nigra is considered the best tasting mulberry

Congratulations u have more than 99 people who admire you and your work.. one from india. :)
Thanks John!
Since you propagate the dwarf variety, you no longer get the root stock, hence it's no longer dwarf
Just yacking until the end.
How do you kill it???
