Pletnev is a true and complete MUSICIAN. True orchestral understanding of MUSIC together with complete instrument domain. Beautiful, as EVERYTHING he does. Listen to the deepness and colorfulness of his Rachmaninoff.

Magical performance ✨️ of one of my all-time favorite piano concertos. This great and talented pianist brings Mendelssohn's melodic lines and lyricism to life with his ability to capture the mood of each movement. The orchestra is also sublime and, likewise, a hand and glove match.
    Thank you! 🌻

Pletnev's performance is extremely expressive and very lyrical and he doesn't runaway with the tempo as do so many other performances that I have heard. I truly enjoy hearing this particular interpretation of Mendelssohn's beautiful masterpiece!!

Just MARVELOUS! Just as light and fine as the fabled gossamer -- full of a sense of whimsy and elfin mischief Such a refreshing change from the usual bombastic, fury-driven approach too often associated with the work, Pletnev is one of the most refined, original, vividly imaginative players around. I don't think he's received anywhere near the acclaim he deserves. Perhaps because he so often "underplays" some of the great virtuoso vehicles in the business?

I agree. I was talking of fast tempos in general which Wang mostly chooses in her interpretations. What I hear is that Pletnev's playing here is more nuanced and just more elegant to me, more unique than Yuja's. It has something special I cannot describe. I like many of Yuja's interpretations though.

I have always liked Pletnev!. Yuja is 25-has years of growing and developing; tho' I do rate her highly, having heard her several times live, even now in some interpretation. I her clarity of play, delicacy of touch, and effortless speed in keeping up with Masur's lead is spot on for this. She herself admits being able to play TOO fast is her primary fault..I simply do not feel it is an issue with Felix!. But then, we have classic Serkin too--so it will always go on! We really need them all...

You have a right to your opinion! I applaud MANY pianists and do not look for 'absolutes'. I DO think that "quite poor" is a strong and wrongheaded qualifier; I and many find PLENTY of "colours and refinement in tone" in Yuja's play. Also, "... but speed is not everything. Much can get lost." is not only, if you pardon me, a rather trite and obvious thing, it is not relevant here-particularly as Pletnev plays this about half a minute faster!
Let's say BOTH are a credit to our musical world.

I doubt his opinion is "as valid" as yours: we, people who are involved with his continuous misbehaviour on the internet, know who this guy REALLY is and he's far from a "professional musician", as he likes to introduce himself in Bangkok (Thailand).
He' s a guy who couldn't get A SINGLE professional degree in music, even after trying different conservatories!!
There is even a serious police case against him in his native Belgium...
No, it doesn't like 'good' for this baby mouse!
    Regards.
