I just realized that Genie did actually make Aladdin a prince, not of a new country... but Prince of Thieves.
Everybody rags that Genie owes Aladdin a wish for not truly fulfilling the "Make me a Prince" wish... but Aladdin was later revealed to be the Prince of Thieves.

Pretty sure in that exact movie it was revealed that he was the prince of thieves all along, but he wanted to be a prince of royal blood to get close to Jasmine. That is pretty obvious based on his life as a street rat, he was reaching for something better.

This settles it. When Disney finally does a live action remake of Alladin (don't pretend you don't think it's coming), Johnathan has to play the Genie. No he's not middle eastern, but genies are magical creatures. Trifling matters such as race matter not to them.

Well in the original story, genies are literally demons so you need someone who looks super demonic.
Djinn are not "literally demons" in Arabian folklore, they are merely a separate class of being from humans (humans are made of earth, djinn are made of fire). There are good and bad djinn like there are good and bad humans.
well technically, the story of Aladdin takes place in China, so the genie would be Chinese

I never quite realized how gratifying it is to look up songs from your childhood covered in your current music taste until now.
is it bad that i imagine some hotshot musical natural singing this as part of an aladdin play at their school, bribing the gymnasts, cheerleaders, and marching band to REALLY dial up the performance to include a cavalcade of talent pouring in through all of the doors of the theatre hall. that would really fuck with the heads of the audience.
