Would BT install the Fibre box in a different room if you don't have a double socket available and have the router in another room? It looks like you just connect the router to the Fibre box using an 8P8C cable anyway.
The contractor can install in a different place, but they usually go the most direct / safe way, and I don't think they will do anything remotely elaborate.
I'm near Truro how on earth did you get Fibre? We are in a zone near Threemilestone that seems to be a non upgrade zone for the foreseeable future, can you pay to get it installed to your area?
I'm not well versed with telco-tech, but what are/were you folks using for last mile copper. Is it some Co-ax with some proprietary modulation? As an ISP, would it not be cheaper to provision 100Mb/Gigabit Ethernet for last mile?
@@Rohit-kl7lh In Italy FTTC covers about 85% of the population with speeds above 30Mbps, but often they're faster (flat contract is 200/20 but your internet speed depends on the distance between your house and the cabinet). FTTC is delivered through DSL cables with VDSL2+ 35b/17a technology.
@Spencer Brewer Not strictly true. Most of those isps still have to run through openreach. The only none openreach isp that most consumers can get hold off, is virgin media. Gigiaclear, hyper etc all of those are very neach and hard to get unless you're in a city or had it paid to be laid in your area.
Glad you like it. Love seeing customers happy with the service.
So happy for you and your parents, Kai! :D
Where is the chicken cam?
The bt smart hub doesn't help with the high ping times, I've got bt fttp and when I upgraded to a ubiquiti setup it improved the ping drastically
I’m using MikroTik only. PPPoE to A&A.

I paid Openreach a lot of money and also subsidised by EU money
@@kaihendry I see you said £3k, I take it that was not including the subsidy. Is there anyway I could get the info on how you did this?
Its not symmetric as BT are cheap and use GPON not Ethernet. Still on DOCSIS myself.
Time to move from MicroCrap..
I do actually get this speed with FTTC here in Italy
Your copper must be short and in good condition 😅

We get the full 79.9mbps down and 19.9mbps up on fttc in holyhead North wales with sky
Exactly the product that Openreach supplies…
Poor upload and what’s your ping consistency?
*I though you village folk were using "STRING" to communicate with ? 😐*
"BT OpenReach pretty much controls the internet in the UK". Not really a free and open internet now isn't it. 🤨😟

I get 74 meg on fttc...
