I grew up in Webster Groves and moved to Florida in 1980. I've been back a several times since and noticed you didn't mention Old Orchard. You droved right past the little park (Used to have picnics with my grandmother and brothers). Thanks for making that video. I grew up in the house on the corner of Big Bend and Catalina. Are you from STL or have you ever lived there?

At 23:45 the StL Community College used to be called Meramec Community College. We called it "MIT - Meramec In Town" and "The University of Big Bend." It was good to hear you mention the annual Turkey Day football game between Webster Groves HS and Kirkwood HS. Back in the day (mid 1970s) that was quite an event. I absolutely love your content Chris, thank you.

I was a community organizer in St. Louis in the early 90's and have been all over both the city and the burbs. Webster Groves is my favorite suburb in the area and among my favorite locals overall, just a lovely town.

Websters Groves does have an urban feel with some unique cultures to it just like Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Clayton, and University City since they're all located in Mid-County (which is the Urban part of St.Louis County).

@brianbdawg3059 Agreed and its one of the reasons why St.Louis is pretty liberal (besides North County) while South County and West County are pretty Conservative (with both Eureka and Wildwood being the most conservative in St.Louis County).

Wow! You came all the way from the D to shoot my hometown - and childhood "hood". At 26:02 on Longfellow, you were about 300 ft from my birthplace (on Burns Ave, parallel street to east). Graduated KHS in '67. Thank you!

It's cool to watch you drive through all of these neighborhoods in my area. I don't know if you've done Spanish Lake though. It's a census designated area in North St Louis County. East of several municipalities you've already driven through. That's where I grew up many years ago.

I'll be honest. Th crime infested videos are my favorites. I know I'm not alone. But it is nice to see peaceful towns and neighborhoods like this/these too. Your drive through the tunnel of trees was very nice as well. Maybe a series of national and/or state parks would be worth considering?

Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Webster near elm and 66 with Katz Drug store on one side and Howard Johnson's on the other. I sold the Post-Dispatch on that corner to the people East bound on 66. I loved going to the Turkey Bowl. Lindbergh Road (61 & 67) in Kirkwood may have been a
By-Way for Hiway 66 at one time but it was not the route itself.

Condos in downtown Webster Groves for " a more urban feel"? Maybe they don't want the "urban feel". I grew up in Webster, having lived there till age 18. Its feel was fine for me.

Why in the world would you go through the worst parts of Kirkwood? Downtown okay but everything else is not a good representative of the city.
Kirkwood by far is a nicer city. I have lived in both. The police, fire, too many to count parks and the schools blow away Webster Groves.
Instead of going straight to Kirkwood Rd you should have made ANY turn off of Lockwood to see the charming old homes on big lots.
Huge sense of family, community and churches.
I personally know the Mayors of both cities.

    • @ChrisHarden

You should make a video of Kirkwood and Webster Groves where you show every single nice older home, and you interview the mayors of both cities.

You go all over the greater St Louis Metropolitan area don't you
Webster Groves is nice but when the St Louis area has a storm Web has long power outages .
Kirkwood never mind about that municipality .

Wants to see more condos in WG for a more urban feel. Thus defeating the idea of suburbia...to spread out, not cramp up.
Kirkwood has done that. And feels as cramped as STL City. And downtown Kirkwood has lost a lot of historical charm because of it.

Kirkwood Missouri is a really great community in the St.Louis area and doesn't look so cookie cutter either unlike the rest of the St.Louis area as well.

Chris - OK I get you were trying to be helpful. I really enjoyed your tour of Kirkwood and Webster. Because I grew up in East Kirkwood (Oakland) and also went to church in Webster. BUT, BUT, BUT....other than the speed of your camerawork, which you acknowledged, wanting new condos built in Webster is --- INSANE! As someone who reviewed condo documents for mortgages and have seen what condos developments do to ruin areas of Florida, STOP BEING A MILLENIAL. PUTTING CONDOS IN WEBSTER AND KIRKWOOD WOULD RUIN THESE AREAS!!!! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!! Just because you have a channel on RUclips doesn't mean you KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!

Some people want to have alittle bit of that urban vibe and culture without having to go into to the city of St.Louis and deal with all the crime and thugs as well.

Luckily the Webster Groves conciel denied the Douglas Hill project back in 2021.
