- We install a custom made oak bed in our 1952 Ford F1 field find project truck. We bought the bed strips and the bed board end cap from Dennis Carpenter. We bought the oak 1 X 6 boards and the stainless steel carriage bolts locally. Drilled all of the holes and stained the boards, then installed them.
Just saw on the TV that Al and Tim are coming back. Tooltime
I seen that to bad Wilson has passed on.
Well done Chris- Cory- Kevin- Derick- Al - Casey looks great.!

Got that right we finished painting the front sheet metal tonight
Nicely done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice Box! You sure laid wood in it!
Thanks 👍 We try.
I'm cheap. I ripped 1 x 12 gray TREX Boarding, with aluminum strips and like you stainless hardware. Really looks good and never needs finishing. Cost was less then $200. What you have does look great.
Like the idea on Trex had some of that around work too. Good idea
Nice truck
Thank you Bobbydog
the bed looks great
Thank you Gallahers.

Thanks Glen we just finished painting the front end tonight looks awesome
Awesome stuff guys , bed wood I’ve seen have a routered edge for the bed stripes to help lock in the wood , either way killed it guys 👍🏼👌🏼
Thank you last night we finished painting the front sheet metal looks pretty nice.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms can’t wait for the next vid
There will be lots more coming thats for sure
It looks great guys, and I'm not complaining but I think you were supposed to route the edges of your boards so the metal strips would lay flush with the surface of the boards.
I’m sure what they did will be fine. Not like heavy cargo going in there. But you’re kinda right. I bought my strips from Mar-K in Oklahoma, they provided pretty detailed measurements for routing grooves that the bottom edge of the strip can catch, which keeps side to side spacing true but still allows adjustment. But the top of the strip is not supposed to be flush with the wood. You can find the instructions if you snoop around on their site.
We decided not to router out for the strips. The truck will never haul anything.
She's looking good guys I watched old barry sholdice restore his dad's 48 ford pickup turned out beautiful was a beigish cream color then it sat around again and was replanted silver looked it shit after butg she came back from the dead twice
Is it still on road.
Al Borland was played by Richard Karn. He has done several shows since Home Improvement but nothing noteworthy. The truck bed came out top notch looks for low buck price.
Thank you Turlo. We think it came out perfect.
WOW!!! I shared this before the wood was even stained. Sure glad I did. Guys, this looks absolutely stupendous and should probably have a few more superlatives attached, but with all the fucking swearing I felt an elongated sentence was better employed, in the hope of electronically injecting some dendrite space into you four. LOL. Kidding, of course. Thanks for the great video and can't wait for the next.
Thank you for the Elongated comment, great to hear those.
Loved the way the v8 emblem looks. Maybe should have another on the tail gate. No matter how you do it sharp truck in the making even if Mr Tool Time sat in the truck and was no help at all.
We have an older tail gate with the ford scrip that we may paint.
Hey Guys. I will be boing my wood bed in a month or so. I better pay attention eh? WHY DID YOU HAVE SOME BOLTS GO THROUGH THE WOOD? ARE THEY TO HELP KEEP THE BED SQUARE OR SOMETHING? Where did you get your bolt pattern from? I would like to have things ready for when I do mine. Great job doing the guys. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
Thank you for watching Andy those bolts went threw the wood to the main supports underneath. The bolt patterns where just from the new strips we bought for it. There are many different ways you can do it. Just take your time Andy im sure youll do a great job.
I dont know about you Andy, but I got a plan to do it on the cheap... will let you know !
Hole saw + tire = clean isolator
Just curious as to why you added carriage bolts on the two boards thru the wood? Would not the stainless steel strips being bolted down be sufficient to hold the boards in place?
Your project is really awesome. Although, people can be mean and self evolved. Sometimes you need to do the same thing back at it. Then there are those stupid opinions. Just to ignore it. I'm only a poor Jack of Trades from South Carolina. But I've always been honest.
Thank you Jacob.
Why didn’t you notch the edges to counter sink the stainless strips?
We thought about it but decided against it. The truck will never haul anything anymore.
Hi , awsome job guys , so helpful.. my friend is building one at the moment... do think it would be possible to tell me the bolt pattern/ measurements for the rear fenders ? We have hit a dead end trying to find them , any help would be appreciated.
For sure ill be out there this weekend and can measure it for you.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms thank you so much , I really appreciate your help , and will wait on your reply .
@@williamburt6624 You bet.
Hi William we video what you were asking for it will be at the end of this Tuesdays video i hope it will help you
@@pennyshotrodscustoms ... thank you so very much for doing this we really appreciate it , cant wait to watch on Tuesday 😊😊 , you guys are the best ❤
Super nice ! was that all kiln dried and planed ? I need to come in way under that price re-using all my old strips and using galvanized hardware.
Yes it is kiln dried. If you reuse your old strips and use galvanized hardware you should be good.
That bed will never be used to pick anything up again.........
You might be surprised might hull a engine in it never no.
love the video guys. I am working on a 1951 Merc M1 and I will be doing box soon can you tell me the length of the bolts you used for the frame cartage bolts and the box rails? Thanks!
Thanks for watching Karl i believe they were were 1 1/2 long its been a while.
🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚
Thanks Wil thank you for watching
It is kind of like "Home Improvement" i guess you could call it "Garage Improvement" lol you have the Al look alike that does all the work and then you have the one one that acts like Tim being a smart ass lol to bad you don't have Lisa (Pamela Anderson) you would have a hell of alot of veiwer then lol
Lol thats right i for got she was in it then they replaced her with another girl
@@pennyshotrodscustoms yeah heck I won't lie she was why I started watching it lol
Agree
I couldn't tell from the video but I hope you put finish on all sides of the boards.
Yes we did Bill. We wonted to totally seal it.
That looks good what about that white A-100 in that junk yard?
We are using that one for a parts truck for Cory's 65 A-100.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms will there be anything left if it do you know where there's any 60 to 66 Chevy panel vans
@@darrenbrisson4336 No Chevy panels.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms thanks for checking for me the 52 pick up is looking good
You will want to store the truck inside or under cover so that the finish on the wood will last longer or the sun will make it crack and flake off if it is stored outside.
Hi Jon the truck is stored in garage all time. I know the sun will damage the wood the way we did it.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms
I used to have a 52 ford F1 years ago, I wish I could have restored it to look as good as your truck.
@@jonpeters2700 Thank you Jon Kevin is having fun driving it .
We’re did you get the wood.
Just bought it at home depot i believe was just regular 1x6 oak
Poor old Al looks like he's been folded over.
Hes been around for a long time.
Nice job. Can you clean the lense or focus better with the camera? Its pretty unsharp filmed.
Thanks. Sorry about not sharp picture the lights in garage not that good. Will be get better light in future.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms okay. Then we as viewers will have a better look on your good work : )
This is going on my nissan hardbody rat rod
Excellent Daniel.
Guess the fenders are going black?
No they are going green.
Turned out awesome! One thing about these year of trucks, the beds were works of art. I thought the bolts that mounted the bed down via the middle of the planks had larger supporting washers on top to keep the carriage heads from pulling through over time? Or was that the later years? Looks good fellas! V8 emblem is a nice touch!
There may have been bigger washers but we just went with carriage bolts.
Does that ever look nice! Guess you won't be hauling the garbage to the dump with that for a while. And anybody wanting to borrow it to move his roto-tiller? Faint hope.
It may haul a stationary engine? Not.
What is the width of the boards.
They were just 1x6 witch turns into about 5 1/4 wide and 3/4 thick Larry
Should've burned that writing into the wood
Never thought of that.
👍Diggin that new truck bed! Great job guys! If mine I’d be freakin that it’d get scratched! Marine clear sealer. I’m anal like that 👀😂Looks amazing!!!
Its still looking amazing so far knock on wood
Looking good!
Thank you! Cheers!
