Especially if you know the spell the enemy cast is a higher level then you can cast. The reason I’m asking is because a few times now Trot has used counterspell at 7th level for 8th and 9th level spells.
There's a part of this episode where Trott asks for clarification and realizes that he's been doing that inefficiently. But no, you're not missing anything. With counterspell, you're best off if you can use the same level as the spell that you're countering, if you can't, the next best option is to use the lowest level spell slot that you currently have available because it doesn't provide any other advantages to upcast.

Spells that require sight can be cast where the caster can see, so if she can see inside she can have a spell pop up. Yes, and no. You can cast simulacrum again however any other active simulacrum is then destroyed so if all of them die then she can replace them. She can also just replace them but then you would need to have the now destroyed simulacra replace the rest. Doing so wastes one of the simulacrums limited spell slots. Making it weaker but it does give you more. Of course dm always right if they want to apply wish rules to it they can.
The scary part is that she upcast it to 9th level. So she can probably do it several times given that she will certainly have a few 8th level slots as well.
Please buff the enemies! The combat encounters aren't that exciting anymore. If for once the party gets hurt, they heal to full in no time. The enemies don't use heal enough, have too little damage and have too little health. If the combat will continue to be as easy as it has been the latest months, please make the encounters quicker at least, they are too long now when there are no stakes.
In my experience giving enemies more and more health really starts to drag out combat. Instead just up the damage they deal more and more until the fights get scary. Giving them more resistances works well too. High level is very hard to balance without creating a bs monster and five hour fight.
I've been saying this for ages now, even the Zephyr fight was easy, Mark's let the party get crazy powerful way beyond what he should have, crazy powerful magical relics and characters with 2 concentration spells, Aila with 20 AC, 25 Str, 20 Con, 20 Dex and over 200 HP, it's insane. There are literally no stakes anymore, can you even remember the last time someone was downed? I forgot completely they were playing with Injury Checks as I haven't seen one in like 50+ episodes lol. Mark does a great job of hyping up fights and worldbuilding and stuff but it falls flat when the combat is so pointlessly one-sided. I really hope he sees comments like this and adjusts things otherwise big fights like the Titans and Xarkira will just be boring and one-sided.
@@evilnerd666 I agree in many ways. The dmg actually heavily recommends you don't let players concentrate on more than one spell because spells are balanced on the fact that you can't. However, magic items are really cool, I also want to give my players really badass items. For Alia in particular 20 AC is not that high for their level, as most enemies have a +14 (or about) to hit and a barbarians whole thing is having a lot of health and strength, so that's fine IMO. As someone who's dm'ed a lvl 1-20 campaign in a high magic setting, trust me it is extremely hard to make an encounter that actually challenges the party with out being bullshit or becoming a five hour fight. I simply recommend he just makes encounters that deal more damage, until I becomes threatening.
@@evilnerd666 Yes, there not being any stakes has even made me cheer for the enemies, because the battles feels so unbalanced. The party can be powerful, but then the enemies also needs a higher AC, saving throws and damage. Another way to balance it out would be to have fights in several stages, so that the party cannot rest after every single fight. There were a lot of those occasions in the first half of the campaign, but now it's rarely happening.
