Is the flat base section a trick question ? 'Do you even know which edge I started on?' 🤔😃😃 or maybe that's point, it doesn't matter 🙂 Love the content, actually figured out something I'm not doing properly on my diagonal side slip. Keep the vids coming !! 🏂🏂
Yeah exactly, that's the point, it's a neutral position, that you get into in between each turn, where the hips are over the centre of the board. In a normal turn you don't hold this position, and it ideally happens before you get into the fall line, but you still need to cross your centre of mass over the board. A big problem is that alot of people are often late with crossing their hips over the board, instead they shift their shoulders over the board first which will put them in a weak position on their new edge. Being able to isolate this movement will help you bring that timing and coordination into your normal turns 👍
I'm doing my first year as a ride instructor, and going back to basics was a real trip to see just how far away I got from being able to handle those fundamentals at demo speed. Nothing a little coaching from the experienced instructors couldn't fix, which just made me want to be an instructor even more. These videos are great, keep em coming, it's not just going to help first time riders, but first time instructors too!
Yeah, it was actually when I was doing my instructor continued professional training (CPD) course at the start of the season that we did this and I thought it would make a good video!
Same for most professions, no matter how experienced me or my colleagues are at diagnosing a bad component on a car, a lot of us will overlook the fundamentals like blown fuse and loose grounds, even weak batteries 😅 Always good to be humbled by someone with less knowledge than you asking why you skipped an important step, when you're trying to use your "years of experience" as an excuse to move on to the harder stuff.
Learning how to instruct. This has been the best turn progression video I have found on RUclips so far and I feel like I’ve watched most of them already.
Many people have already said this on your other video's Malcom. But as an ex UK ski instructor your manner and method of teaching is second to none.. I've learnt a lot even being a competent snowboarder and appreciate great instruction... Looking forward to new video''s
It just looks so easy when you do it, when I do it, I'm scared I'm going to catch an edge and go flying down the hill. Thanks Malcolm, you're the Yoda of snowboarding!
if I can make a couple of observations Brian... new things are difficult, and ones that can result in pain when done wrong can be scary - here are a few things that might help (apologies if you have already considered them): 1/ practice Malcolm's drills, progress through them but progress slowly - you will develop edge control, awareness of your center of gravity etc making you less likely to fall, and will build confidence from familiarity 2/ make sure you are wearing padding (head and bum at least), so you are not worried about being in pain if you fall 3/ consider using a reverse-camber board - this is where it looks like a banana or flattened-out letter-U when laid on the snow - this will make the turns easier and make it less likely that you catch an edge.
Yup, and every beginner will. You will eventually gain confidence in your riding and be comfortable going at faster and faster speeds. Intermediate riders feel the exact same way when going down blacks or steep blues (reds for the Europeans).
Thank you for posting these videos! Best snowboard instructor ever. Calm and confident tone, logical analogies, straight to the point. I love all your videos, especially the one about the levers and torsional twist, really helped me have more control over my board as a beginner. Can't wait to apply this video's 4-step basic turn tomorrow!😊
I'm a first year instructor and that clock diagram was a great visual. I'm definitely using that from now on. I appreciate this video, and I mean all of your other videos as well. The things you've explained help me out, and in turn will help the little goobers out too
Honestly I have watched much more videos in youtube before , but your teaching method just like a friend talking in front of me . I will try to remember your 4 steps and make more hard training in this ski season.
I love your videos!! They’re extremely helpful and by far the best instructor on the internet! Other tutorials have trouble getting the details across but you absolutely smash it! Loving these types of videos to help me improve! Keep em coming! ❤
You have helped me massively. With your lessons here in YT, I was able to progress out of the bunny hill, and at the very least do edge changes at a beginner level in the green slopes. My wife and I will practice through this season and the next, and we will enroll in your course come 2026 for a week as part of our holiday trip to Alpe D'Huez!!! Massive thank you!!!!
Great Videos. Your explanations helped a lot - I went from nothing to more or less enjoying riding in 2 days. There is one thing that I would add that I as a beginner struggle with. Its a speed - it's hard to understand when I'm going too fast and lose control and what should be normal speed? As soon as I go flat or point down the fall line it feels that the velocity is too high and it can cause panic. Maybe one day you can make a video that explains what to expect and how to handle it.
Such a horrible feeling. You start getting confident that you can make both turns at ease, then you pick up a little too much speed and catch an edge and have a bad wipe out and all that confidence goes out the window. The only thing I can suggest is bigger turn across the slope to keep from going to fast. Problem with that is, you become " that guy " that is in the better riders way all the time. Lol.
I’ve been riding on and off for years and have been getting pretty decent (so I thought). I started watching some instructional videos like this channel and Tommie Bennett only to find out that I’m still not turning correctly. Rather than carving I’m still doing the sloppy tail slide type turn. I usually ride by myself so I haven’t had anyone to compare to until I stared watching some videos lol. Sucks I have to go back to the basics but glad I decided to start watching some videos to see what I’m doing wrong. Good video thanks
Malcolm, your videos are just the best, I keep on returning to them as I am learning snowboarding. Thank you for the clean explanations, analytical method mixed with a very practical approach. I understood so much and could isolate the things I need to practice based on your videos.
Thanks, yeah, it's something I started doing. It's easy to just go out there and slam the board edge to edge and feel like a boss. But when you incorporate all of these small movements back into your riding it really does help!
Really don’t know what to say to thank you for all those valuable instructions. Simple, clear, concise explanation, even know it’s not easy at all to combine those skills together physically. However good enough for me trying to catch up little by little.
My friends did not understand why I told them to go have fun without me(1st timer). I got the basics down and one friend is really having trouble with his turns and carving. Thank you. I learn by seeing and mimicking
I was having a rough time my first few days, then I spent a weekend coaching my boyfriend and sister as beginners. The next day I went out my riding was so much better. It was an incredible change.
Hello Malcolm Moore, I don't know what to say to you besides an amazing thank you. I started snowboarding this december and i struggled a lot. After watching this video, i can do the S turn in the Green line and Graduate line in Ontario. Please keep up your videos. I have subscribed your channel and introduce it to my fellow beginner snowboarders too. Amazing. Cheers from Toronto.
This video is the best…made my day on the slope as a beginner….still trying to practice the first two steps, haven’t mastered the complete turns but man that clock analogy is amazing…it really works….thanks a lot and keep making such helpful content!!!!
No matter how many times I do did this, I still felt like I was making progress and now I can down a diamond after so many falls and failed attempts! Thanks man!!!!!
I first saw your videos in February and I was enchanted by your retraction turn. I'm not close to doing it but the same flow seen in that retraction turn is seen here too. I am going back to basics, again... 👍 great video
Love the videos, very helpful and insightful! We are heading out to Les Menuires in March, I will be going back to basics to iron out counter rotation!
Absolute gold. Since i am trying to get the movements in my muscle memory, I notice that bad habits are creeping in. Good to be mindful of the basics 👍
I’m a beginner snowboarder. I can do greens without fear but blues still have me shaking in my boots 🤦🏻♀️ On a side note Any advice on setting up my bindings and stance to help me succeed? Really what is the best set up for beginners? 🤷🏻♀️
I am in the same position! I started with lessons and then on my 3rd day I hit up a resort (easiest were blues) and I did not have a fun time. Found myself having to constantly wip the board around just to go slow and/or braking heavy on heel side
This video is showing each step of the turn. In a normal turn all these steps are there, but you wouldn't want to hold this flat base position, and ideally it happens before the fall line. The idea is if you can break them all down and show each stage, your advanced turns will be better, not necessarily to turn like this in general!
That was an awesome detailed and simple and yet important video, this really worked for me.. Explaining the basic theory very simply helped a lot for me to understand actually because i think %50 of snowboarding is to “get the theory” mentally.. Other than that just trying to do what your coach is telling you while boarding can be confusing.. I regret so much that i didnt watch your videos before i went to the mouintains last week, i could have done it better.. Because i always felt like ok i am doing not bad but i just dont “understand” the logic…. Great channel keep up the videos many thanks!! ❤️
This is all good and I already know I'm gonna use it on my next visit to the mountain. Unfortunately keeping the weight on the front foot is my main difficulty.
Can you do a video focussed on teaching children how to snowboard? I would be interested in learning about children’s gear and how to keep them engaged in the sport. I have a newborn that I would like to teach how to snowboard eventually.
Hey Malcom I absolutely love your channel and it has help me progress beyond words. You have helped me to make sure I didn’t develop bad habits when I was going from beginner to an intermediate stage. Now that I have some good riding and black diamonds under my belt I’m purchasing my own snowboard for this season and beyond. Now, I’m sure you get this question a lot, but what exactly does binding angle do? I’m not entirely sure what to do for it and I’m sure it’s mostly preference but what does it really change in your riding.
Hay Malcolm, loved our lesson at Alp Huez a couple of years back, and loving your channel. Hope your well. I’ve been struggling on step runs when turning onto my heels that I just go straight into a slide going straight down the hill, it’s especially the case on hard compact runs, any chance you could do a video on this please. Hope you have a good season.
Hey Nathan, hope you're well, it's difficult to say exactly what would be causing that without seeing you ride. It's probably to do with not engaging your heel edge early enough in the turn, sounds like you're probably getting in the correct position towards the bottom of the turn, rather than right after the edge change whilst you're still going across the slope. If you get on the edge right away you can start managing the arc of the turn and managing the pressure build up throughout the turn, rather rather just getting there at the end and not being able to hold it, therefore skidding out. Anyways... I will be making a video on early edge changes later in the season too! 👌
@@malcolmmoore amazing thank you and will work on that in a few weeks in Solden, really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Best of luck with the season and the channel.
Ugh. I'm going to die on my next snowboarding trip in 3 weeks. My first was last year in Colorado. I found a RUclips video where he showed how he pulled his toes up to twist the board. That worked for heel side. I basically spent those few days falling leaf down the mountain LOL. I think I was afraid to fall again because day 1 I broke my ass on ice and I was in pretty bad pain. But sucked it up and kept riding. On the last day I ended up on my toe edge (by accident) in a very flat area. Went to get on my heel side and immediately caught a edge. I'll be in bigsky Montana in a few weeks. Hopefully this video makes it click and I can figure out toe side. This way I can actually say I'm snowboarding once I can link turns. I love your one video about imagining shins as levers. But I think this one might work better. Oh yeah I had a question. I knew I was leaving a comment for a reason. I notice your board goes flat. I thought we always need to stay on a edge? If it's flat the board will do whatever it wants and that's how you catch a edge. I guess we need to go flat for a split second to get from heel to toe. But I feel like you're casually cruising flat like eh, no worries. Fingers crossed for nothing broken this trip. I couldn't sit for a month after my first one.
Nope, not at all, it was seriously cold this day actually too. I carry a spare, but 1 is usually enough. If you're filming lots of long runs, 2 might be warranted.
Hey Malcolm, what binding angles are you riding this year? Looks like your turns are continuously getting smoother over the years 🤯 so wondering what adjustments/practices did you make?
+18 -12, I've been practicing a big movement over the top of the board to really try and place my centre of mass at the centre if the turn on short turns, to kind of slingshot the board around the arc of the turn... I'll try and better explain that in a video soon!
Hi Malcom, do you have a video on how to quickly change edges? I’m struggling to control my speed on steep blues and blacks, because I end up spending too much time pointing downhill. I also don’t want to rely on too much counter rotation and spraying
This one should help, its a little bit older and I can't exactly remember the advice I was giving, but the title seems to be exactly what you're looking for! ruclips.net/video/Zje2HMI11I0/видео.html
For those who want to be instructors, you better take notes because Malcolm's videos are useful for beginners yeah, but they are also FREE technique classes for those of you who want to be teachers some day.
Hi Malcolm, please can I request a short vid tutorial? It's about how to turn almost "on the spot", but from a stationary start. The scenario is you rejoin your group of mates who are sitting waiting for your ass, and you arrive toe side. You want to sit and join them but you're already at their level on the slope, you've stopped on your toes and you don't want to do a big turn and end up yards below them, and you don't want to jump the board round 180, just swivel on the spot almost. I see guys doing this all the time and it's driving me nuts. Is it just a strong differential on the feet like front foot toes up and the other toes down? I always feel I'm gonna catch an edge trying it (and have done so plenty, of course right in front of the mates!). Thanks. Same would apply for wanting to swivel round from heel onto toes without losing any height, e.g. to help a kid from below them. Thanks!
Yeah, I'm there now, I took a trip to Switzerland in November to film loads, that's where all these are from. I'm so busy teaching now I don't have as much time to film.
Thank you for your videos, Malcolm! Progressed a lot from it since I started last year. I wonder if you can make a video on how to do speed checks and still continue the S turns we're trying to make on a run.
Hello Malcolm, I’ve been following your videos over the last few months. I really like those videos providing details for making turns for beginner’s level and steps to learn carving turns. I would like to ask if you can make a video on how to overcome the fear of acceleration (when your board started to face the fall line and gain speed while your board travelling along the fall line) when you change your edge from one side to the other. Because the fear of acceleration makes me scare and I always lean back (bad posture) towards the tail of my board which makes it more difficult to make my turn or fall down sometimes (especially on more steeper slope). Thank you.
Maybe you will be interested how other people are handling that. For myself I also have that fear. However, it's much lower now. What helped me was riding on mellow slope and trying to be in the fall line for couple of seconds and then, turn. I was repeating this exercise and I was longer in the fall line. The more time I did that I was feeling more comfortable in that position and speed.
@@malcolmmoore Great news! I am looking forward to next year when they make them for my clown feet! (UK 13) Between my feet, hands and being 110kg it sometimes feels like snowboarding isn’t meant for people my size 😂
So I only can really do diagonal side slip on my toe edge. the full toe edge side slip is quite painful for me as it puts a lot of stress on my ankles. On heel side I can easily do the diagonal or full side slip. The result is my turns are really heel edge heavy, i cant slow my speed too much on my toes and my heels take more impact as a result which is very tiring. In rutted out snow my toe edge puts even more stress on my ankles and its excruciating. I do think my technique is ok for toeside i keep my torso upright and drive my knees into the snow but my ankles bend so much. I think the issue is due to boot fit or board width. I am a heavy guy (180lbs) with size 6 feet. I wear women's boots and they are quite soft and my bard has a 255mm waist width. if yoyu have anything i can try to see if its an equipment or technique issue id love to hear it. Thanks for the awesome video!
Hello it was my first powder day with 40cm of deep snow! I was riding the burton name dropper and I was stucking all day long in the deep pow.. it was my fault that the board was stucking or it’s the board that I choose? Thank you keep the hard work man!🤟
I am considering buying the Amplid Dada but im wondering if its not too short for me. Right now im riding the Jones MTN Twin 164W. Im 190cm and weight about 80kg. Do you think its still capable of a good edgehold for higher speeds? Thank you very much and have a nice day! Keep it up.
:O omg! this looked so helpful! I'm totally going to try it! The issue I have is with riding toe edge, and this looks like a good exercise! Once i figure out, i can totally see myself changing edges
update: So, this video and the 40min one where you're tutoring two beginner girls on how to snowboard, helped me to learn the basics of turns! Thanks a lot for these
@The Rope are you switching edges and linking turns? I have 1 trip under my belt. I'm technically still not snowboarding. I hope on day 1 of this trip in 3 weeks I can sort out toe edge and actually snowboard
@@respond_code3 heyyy! Sorry for my late response! I thought I did answer it! Yes, I did manage to link turns. The trick is in doing a falling leaf with toe side edge down the mountain to get comfortable with your toes too. Just like you do with the heal edge. Once I did an entire ride down with the toe side only, I used the techniques from this video to link up my turns together. So, for me, the breakdown was like this, day 1-2, heal side, day 3 toe side and turns. But I mean the above trips happened in a span of 2 years for me. The issue with doing without coach is that on day 1, you kinda gotta experience the feelings too. Once you get a reality check, you know that half the videos you were watching were perhaps too advanced. And you can better judge what type of videos you look. And to not get information overload without forgetting what you are planning to improve, you might have to watch one task at a time. So, for me, these two videos helped massively with being able to link my turns, and go with beginner carvings.
Hi Malcolm, at my snowboarding lessons, they talked about using the feet to turn. Lift lead foot up or down to turn and get on the toe/heel edge. But you mentioned turning with your knee. Obviously being new to the sport and it can be expensive to do lessons, hence why I am self teaching myself. Is there much difference with using the feet to steer and turning our/bringing knee in to turn? Hope that makes sense
"Feet" can man a lot of things, but could be interpreted as using your ankle to lift/push the toes or heel. That is more for fine tuning and will make your shins/calves tired real quick if it's your main movement when initiating a turn. Try leaning your shins against the boots and calves against the highbacks (another way of saying use the levers).
Smooth editing. You started on your toes then switched angles. 😉. How do you cope with different learning styles? Your explanations are great, but how do you adjust your teaching for those who don’t hear instructions as well as they experience them? The visual learners usually get it from the demo but I’ve taught a lot of kids who just need to feel and or experience the instructions. For those people I find games work well. What kinda games you got?
Yeah I quite like this as a video idea, to be honest I teach kids less and less these days, I used to be alot better at it. But yeah anything that they can imagine feeling works well. I used to 'put a bottle of toothpaste' in the front of their boots for the toe edge for instance, and they had to squeeze it out... you end up coming up with lots of strange things!
Hi Malcolm, I always turn into a side slip after a turn, both toe side and heel side turn. May i know how i can avoid that and travel transverse directly after a turn?
Simple answer is more edge. By having more of an edge angle you will have the board grip in the snow. However you may already have quite a high edge angle and it is still skidding, a few things could cause this, bad posture, or inefficient or even wrong movements at the edge change. I would give this video a watch: ruclips.net/video/VcQEMhLItBo/видео.html
Hiya, what piste are you on here? We're in Alpe d'huez at the moment and struggling a bit to find a decent piste to practice these drills on each morning... 😊 I'm enjoying the final 3rd of Chez Roger from Rifnel Express, but finding it a bit tough to run these drills as need the momentum to get up and over the humped sections...
Try the greens from les jeux chairlift, anything from Romains chair, marmottes 1 has good wide blues, marcels farm....enjoy this week the snow is epic!!
Thank you so much. I haven't quite been brave enough to try a chair lift yet (but have seen your video !) 😂. I'll try those out tomorrow if I can get up to them and not be surrounded by clouds! Really enjoying your videos by the way, been a great help when trying to transfer my indoor UK learning to "real life" conditions. 👍
Hi Malcolm, I’m preparing for the season and have a question for you. How sharp do you make the board edges? How do you check it’s sharp enough? Also, what base/side edge bevels do you set? Thank you!
Honestly I'm pretty lazy, I drop it into a ski shop for a wax every couple of weeks and a full service about every 6 weeks. I'm not exactly sure what they tune it at, but it definitely has a slight bevel!
@@malcolmmoore Thank you, it seems to be not so important if your technique is good. Maybe I missed it, but do you have a video about how to ride steep (red, black) slopes without making stops after every turn (because it’s fast)? Some people just ride down the hill very fast and I can’t understand how. If there’s no such video, I think it would be very purposeful!
@@iddqd6716 I have some videos on short turns that will help on steeps like this one: ruclips.net/video/IBconmClJks/видео.html But not one specifically on steeps yet!
Hey Malcolm! I know I keep posting questions and whatnot, but I love your videos and cannot stop watching them haha. Regarding the transition from the toe edge diagonal side slip to straightening the board down the fall-line...that was a major issue I had last season. Whenever I would try to do that transition I would catch my heel edge and break my ass lol. After watching a bunch of your videos I think my issue was the fact that I was attempting an edge change too early; the nose of my board was not aligned with the imaginary direction arrow you have made a video about. Does this sound plausible to you? Does my assumption make sense? Or maybe I just suck haha...
Yeah that makes sense, basically it's all about crossing your centre of mass over the board at the edge change. In this beginner video that happens very slowly hence why the edge change happens in the fall line. Ideally then you do want to speed up these movements and make the edge change before the fall line though, like in my early edge change video. Whilst the movements are lead by the lower body you do need to make sure the upper body is properly aligned though, I've actually just been editing a video about this that I filmed at the end of last season that I'll release in November that talks about this. It'll be called the 'flag pole drill' but essentially it's not really too dissimilar to a much older video I have about 'opening and closing the door'.
Hey Malcom, love the videos. I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old, do you think they are old enough to learn to snowboard or should they learn to ski first? Any experience teaching the very little ones? Thanks!
You can teach them to snowboard from that age, and if you get proper kids boards that will help, but in all honestly it is much easier teaching kids skiing. The progression will be quicker and they will take less falls. So really it's up to you, but for ease I would say skiing, my child is too young right now, but he will start on skiing.
Thank you so much for these awesome, and well thought out videos!! however I do hava a question about binding angles. Are there any particular angles that are a good starting point for all mountain riding??
Hey man, been watching your vids for over a year now. I'm looking into getting the Amplid Dada board, and I'm just curious: are you riding the 154 model? Is it a one size fits all? Cheers, and please keep on spreading your goodness in the way only you know how!. PEACE, N LOVE!
Yeah I love that board, I'm not on it in this video though. Yeah it's just 154, I'm at the upper end of the weight bracket for it at around 90kgs, but if you're around 70 - 90 then it should work well for you!
@@malcolmmoore Thanks a bunch man! I'm a little lighter - say 65kg. But I'm183/4cm with a wider boot UK 10ish. Overall just looking for something which crushes most terrain and is short but stable enough to be playful across the mountain. Have a great day!

Lol.
There are alot of Snowboard teaching channels but this one is the best, at least for me! Thanks!
Thanks so much!! So happy you find them useful 🙌🏼🙌🏼
This channel is pure gold. This is my new warm up routine
You are the best snowboarding instructor. Period.
Thankyou, very kind 🙌
Wow thanks so much!!!! Hope the channel helps 😊😊
This video is the best…made my day on the slope as a beginner….still trying to practice the first two steps, haven’t mastered the complete turns but man that clock analogy is amazing…it really works….thanks a lot and keep making such helpful content!!!!
This is the best beginner turn explanation video I've come across!
No matter how many times I do did this, I still felt like I was making progress and now I can down a diamond after so many falls and failed attempts! Thanks man!!!!!
Awesome 👌
seriously THE BEST instructor here on RUclips!
Thankyou Stephanie!
I first saw your videos in February and I was enchanted by your retraction turn. I'm not close to doing it but the same flow seen in that retraction turn is seen here too. I am going back to basics, again... 👍 great video
Thanks, I'll be back in December with more vids!
Always good to check that you have the basics covered, thanks for the video.
Great exercise, I will improve my own technique whilst teaching my kids how to turn on their bords. Love it!
That's a great idea!
Best snowboard video ever! I love how it breaks it all down to the basic movements 👌
Thank you 🙏😊
5:21 was really creative!
Was going to say the same! Very original 😄
Thanks!
Absolutely 👌
I love these videos because i always start with the basics when I get back to the slopes, this was great to watch!
Ahh this is a perfect quick breakdown 🤙🏽
Thank you for always being informative and creating concise videos!
Can always learn or refresh a skill from them
My pleasure!
The snow conditions looks great.
I’m a beginner snowboarder. I can do greens without fear but blues still have me shaking in my boots 🤦🏻♀️
On a side note
Any advice on setting up my bindings and stance to help me succeed? Really what is the best set up for beginners? 🤷🏻♀️
I am in the same position! I started with lessons and then on my 3rd day I hit up a resort (easiest were blues) and I did not have a fun time. Found myself having to constantly wip the board around just to go slow and/or braking heavy on heel side
"Stand up to make the board flat." Are there times when i might not wanna do this? Are there other ways to make the board flat? Thanks for the video!
This video is showing each step of the turn. In a normal turn all these steps are there, but you wouldn't want to hold this flat base position, and ideally it happens before the fall line. The idea is if you can break them all down and show each stage, your advanced turns will be better, not necessarily to turn like this in general!
Man, if only I had seen this before giving it a go last week! Genius editing with the edge you started on rewind :)
Thanks, was weird saying all that in a different order to how it was going to be edited!
Lower means slower, stand up straight means accelerate...there, now it rhymes :)
Nailed it thanks 🙌
That was an awesome detailed and simple and yet important video, this really worked for me.. Explaining the basic theory very simply helped a lot for me to understand actually because i think %50 of snowboarding is to “get the theory” mentally.. Other than that just trying to do what your coach is telling you while boarding can be confusing.. I regret so much that i didnt watch your videos before i went to the mouintains last week, i could have done it better.. Because i always felt like ok i am doing not bad but i just dont “understand” the logic…. Great channel keep up the videos many thanks!! ❤️
Thanks so much 😊😊 so pleased this video worked for you
Really great video editing on this one!
Thanks, appreciate it 🙌
Thanks for posting. You're a really good instructor.
I appreciate that!
This is all good and I already know I'm gonna use it on my next visit to the mountain. Unfortunately keeping the weight on the front foot is my main difficulty.
Keep practicing you got it 👍
Beautiful view.and informative!!!
Glad you liked it
Thanks Malcolm ......well done !!
Thanks!
Can you do a video focussed on teaching children how to snowboard? I would be interested in learning about children’s gear and how to keep them engaged in the sport. I have a newborn that I would like to teach how to snowboard eventually.
Where do you ride at? This place is beautiful and the terrain is incredible. As always, thank you so much for everything you teach and post.
Great video! Do you have problems with the camera battery in cold weather?
Nope, not at all, it was seriously cold this day actually too. I carry a spare, but 1 is usually enough. If you're filming lots of long runs, 2 might be warranted.
@@malcolmmoore Thanks for the answer man. Wish you good season!
Brilliant video again. Thank you.
Thankyou, appreciate it 🙌
Hey Malcolm, what binding angles are you riding this year? Looks like your turns are continuously getting smoother over the years 🤯 so wondering what adjustments/practices did you make?
+18 -12, I've been practicing a big movement over the top of the board to really try and place my centre of mass at the centre if the turn on short turns, to kind of slingshot the board around the arc of the turn... I'll try and better explain that in a video soon!
@@malcolmmoore Thanks man! Looking forward to it 👍
Hi Malcom, do you have a video on how to quickly change edges?
Thanks!
Another great lesson! Say, any recommendations for a good mountain to check out in Italy
Sestriere is pretty cool, it's pretty close to where I live hence why I've ridden there. The dolomites are meant to be incredible though!
Great video again ! Are you going to be back at Alpe d’huez this season ?
Yeah, I'm there now, I took a trip to Switzerland in November to film loads, that's where all these are from. I'm so busy teaching now I don't have as much time to film.
@@malcolmmoore sweet ! Not surprised in the slightest that your busy. Sounds like it’s time to expand those horizons 😉
Hi Malcolm, thanks so much for your videos. Once I’ve got this down, what’s the progression from here? Any videos about that? Thanks :)
Thank you for your videos, Malcolm! Progressed a lot from it since I started last year. I wonder if you can make a video on how to do speed checks and still continue the S turns we're trying to make on a run.
Thanks Ryan! And good idea!!
@@malcolmmoore hopefully you can make a video about it!
Excellent video !! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for your advice 👍 will try to practice that.
Wow, very good! :) I am a beginner, also having some videos of snowboarding in the alps out, but nowhere as good as this :)
For carving which bindings angles? +12 - 12 or + 15 -15 ?
Notice you aren’t using the nidecker supermatic bindings any more. What made you change?
Different boards different bindings, that's all, still got them, was using them all day today whilst teaching in fact 👌
@@malcolmmoore Great news! I am looking forward to next year when they make them for my clown feet! (UK 13) Between my feet, hands and being 110kg it sometimes feels like snowboarding isn’t meant for people my size 😂
What is the key in not catching the edge when shifting heel to toe and vice versa?
Thank you. It is good instruction.
Kind of difficult to say without seeing you ride to be honest, but if you can try some other boots that might be a good start!
Hello it was my first powder day with 40cm of deep snow! I was riding the burton name dropper and I was stucking all day long in the deep pow.. it was my fault that the board was stucking or it’s the board that I choose? Thank you keep the hard work man!🤟
Its never the board I'm afraid!
What is with the rubber duck in the background ?
🦆😉
I am considering buying the Amplid Dada but im wondering if its not too short for me. Right now im riding the Jones MTN Twin 164W. Im 190cm and weight about 80kg. Do you think its still capable of a good edgehold for higher speeds? Thank you very much and have a nice day! Keep it up.
When I try and stop toe side I just carve sharper and fall. What do I do?
This one was awesome!!
Thanks 🙏🙏
What the duck!? 🦆Once again superb explained, mate!
Cheers man 🦆😉
:O omg! this looked so helpful!
Ohh boy chat here goes Malcolm trying to teach us those fancy tricks like turning I just go straight then fall because my rudder broke off my board 🤣
What settings do you use on your x3?
Which mountain are you in this video?
Which board and bindings are you using in this video? @Malcolm Moore
Did someone film you with another camera or was the footage shot with you holding the X3?
@@iddqd6716 I have some videos on short turns that will help on steeps like this one: ruclips.net/video/IBconmClJks/видео.html
But not one specifically on steeps yet!
@@malcolmmoore I'll take your advice and get them on skiis first, then switch them over to a board when they hit 8 or 9.
I’m struggling to do this quickly on steep slopes
That rewind part was very nice cutted haha
Really helpful thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you 🙏 ❤
No problem 😊
Thank you so much for these awesome, and well thought out videos!! however I do hava a question about binding angles. Are there any particular angles that are a good starting point for all mountain riding??
I ride pretty much exclusively+18-12 if that helps?!
thank you
Hey man, been watching your vids for over a year now.
