evolution of jack white playing fell in love with a girl live (2001-2018)

- he doesn't play this song as much as I thought he did, also he likes to mess around with this song's structure live a lot which made this a lot harder to make

Well, you're in your little room
And you're working on something good
But if it's really good
You're gonna need a bigger room
And when you're in the bigger room
You might not know what to do
You might have to think of how you got started
Sitting in your little room
Only took SevenTeen years for a crowd to sing half ass??
bares repeating now
At some point in his life he went: okay, but make it jazzier
Everyone in their lifetime will at some point look at something they've made and think "okay but make it jazzier"
too jazzy? ruclips.net/video/SSmNn0wYinQ/видео.html
That point is called 2012
Funny seeing him fall into the Sting/Roxanne trap near the end where Sting plays it slower with a lute with a damn jazz band behind him.

@@ricardojmestre Cheers! You Jack White fans may like this video I did on his guitar sound ruclips.net/video/LCVZmvxESYc/видео.html
I think its because after playing it half a million times artist want to reinvent it. he played as a 2 piece so much its a wonder he hasn't gone out with an orchestra behind him at least once.
It’s good slow but def way better at its original tempo
Its the evolution of the guy that says "I can change and mature" to his wife, years go by..the kids grow and one day BOOM he's back in the garage with his buddies just rocking out drinking beer.
Damn I am that dude 🤣
He tries to add comlexity to a song that was meant to be simple. It's not bad and it's not a problem, but it will lack that raw energy from the original record
You play the same song every night for 20 years straight and tell me that you don't want to switch it up occasionally.
He changes a song he wrote to how he wants to play it* Ftfy
@@zechs5079 I understand your point and considered it as well before commenting. It's his song, so he can do whatever he wants, I just say that the beauty of this song was the rawness
@@Bloodray19 in 2018 he played it the same, he only sometimes switched it up.
It is quite literally his song
Damn people let the man have fun with his song lol
Right? Honestly...

Seems like they got better at micing his amp over the years.
The guitars he used in the beginning were pretty rough guys. He liked to play cheapo ones that sounded different. More expensive guitars towards the end. Cool note; pretty sure he's playing St. Vincent's guitar line that she designed in last clip
Miss Meg. I could watch her drum forever

Love the video! Good work!
Can’t wait to see him live again
Truly don't even know why I clicked on this but seeing Carla Azar on drums at the end made it worth it
This is a video that needed to be made!
I’m sure a reason for him changing it is that you get sick of playing it after all these years
Love that so much
Well done!
I love these variations. Take into account his maturity and other factors.
Fell in love with the white stripes when I wad 10, in 2011, turns out they were playing my favourite songs the year I was born. Feels so weird but I guess that's life, wish I could've seen them live
It's a beautiful thing to connect with people before your time through their art. As the great Vladimir Horowitz once wrote: "Styles change, forms change, but feelings never change."
Sometimes you just nail it on the first go ;) nice edit 👍
I know that playing the same song night after night, year after year can get tiresome, but that's just the nature of being a successful musician. The Stones seem to manage it, while still sounding contemporary. Personally I associate the Airline guitar with the sound of this song, it's more quirky.
From reddit great video
2002 ftw
Shhh the “jazzy” version slaps, it’s just not really the same song and I see why OG rock fans wouldn’t like it.
Whats the 2018 one from
Love the guitar tone in the above video from 2007
Can we all agree that Meg is a better drummer then Lars
I love meg but I think that's definitely debatable
definitely not... XD
*than not then...
@@bauhaund7935 i mean hes the richest drummer in the world but can't even keep a steady beat even after like over 30 years of playing
Lars is my hero, he's the reason I chose to learn the guitar.
How I love
2018, Really the most peak performance in his journey..!!
Should have named the video “a few times Jack White played Fell In Love With a Girl differently”
I miss the white stripes :(
Think about how boring it would be to play that song the same way for 20+ years. True artist here
Is it just me or have me gotten pretty bad at recording live performance in past few years?
I think he is doing great right now imo at least he is finding passion for it again but for a while it kinda seemed like he was losing the spirit
I think it's just that the first few are professionally filmed and the last one is on somebody's phone. Obviously back in 2002 Fell in Love With a Girl was their biggest hit, these days he has a much bigger catalog of songs to pick from. There just aren't so many pro recordings of that song now.
anyone know the 2012 performance
2018: the year jack white turned into jack black
The longer he goes on for, the more of that edge he loses. Maybe that’s all part of getting older, but I swear the more simplistic he was, the better the art was
He can always come back to it, but that’s why the white stripes was simple. Because Meg was an okay drummer and the man knew how to play guitar so he worked simplicity into his writing. Jack White is a blues rock man who takes blues rock and hard rock, it’s maybe not as good. But that’s what he pushed himself towards cause as he has said he feels like a preacher when he makes music spreading his gospel. He’s done with alt rock but it’s never lost. There is only so much to write after 20 years heh but I think boarding house reach was great personally. The white stripes stays as is and is engrained forever but as an artist that’s limiting.
@@The890venom Done with alternative rock? What do you think help us stranger was?
@@brandonmcgraw1873 okay he’s not done with it but it’s also not his main focus musically. That is clearly evident with his solo career, plus uh that album was okay…so it’s clear to see that his simplicity of the alternative genre has done better in the past. The dead weather is also alternative so I guess I’m just half wrong. Oh well I still think he has mostly wanted to make more complex arrangements rather than your basic 4 chord shimmy.
He IS more experimental but id say in a good way despite any setbacks. Could be worse, he could be billie cordon
@@daveshif2514 you are right there good sir.
interesting how the rhythm change gave the whole thing a whole new feel. then it turned like all jazzy/folky? idk but the phrasing of the lyrics changed in a really cool and interesting way
Jack shouldve stayed with the two piece, keep the energy raw; just my opinion
I hope he at least sticks with a three piece he played with on SNL in 2020
Meg probably didn't wanna keep playing with him.
@@AA-rc8sm yep, she is shy and lacks interest in music
That's what he wants. He's said multiple times he wants to do the Stripes but Meg doesn't.
@@battousai12 Yeah it seems like that. If she ever played music in public again, that'd be without him.
give me meg or give me deatj
God forbid an artist try something new.
2003 is very Zeppelin-esque and I love it!
His voice is definitely more Plantish than usual
How does the quality get worse as the years go on? Blame cell phones.
Meg
Loving that jazz version. So smooth.
lol
That voice
Jeeeze, he special editions harder than George Lucas
2003... Even properly.
Back in 2012, Jack was unaware that Metallica would make a very simular mistake with an orchestra 😂
2005 from Brazil could have been included but amazing work!
since 2012 something has changed for the better, if I only could point my finge.... ah wait there is a drummer who can actually hold the timing, take away a bit of the rawness adds sophistication I like it.
Love it how he brings back the Stripes era guitar to play the Stripes era version in 2018.
That’s St. Vincent’s signature, it didn’t even exist when the white stripes were a thing
He still trys to give signals to the new drummers QQ D,:
I miss Meg
I think 2003 is my favorite
Things spoil with time.
Devolution
loses its charm year by year. man he needs meg.
So it got worst and lost the spirit of the song? Got it!
It his song. He can play it any fucking way he wants to…. Doesn’t mean I have to like it! Hahahhaaa
How many dudes do you think came on Jack White's face for him to become so pale?
You tell us, you seem to be the expert

Jack do whatever it takes! Bring Meg back! White Stripes Forever!!
Not much of an evolution, that would be him playing every 2-3 years: you went all the way to 2012 then 2018
onde está a evolução ? so vi piorar!
I'm not saying I have any problems with Jack White, but that little fake-blues shimmy he does at 1:08 while looking like a freaking KISS member made me understand why people think Jack White is a dipshit.
Why does everyobody keep saying 2012 version is jazz. It sounds nothing like jazz, its more like something rootsy/folkish
I thought it was cool that he was playing a st Vincent music man.
Nice genetics
*degradation and restoration
The last great rock genius

I mean it must get boring playing 5 chords in repeat
Yet another great example of that Jack White peaked in 2002
Took the words right out of my mouth
Can we go back to the early 2000s
0:44 that Robert Plant voice is on point
If there's one thing I can't stand it's when bands slow down and add jazz elements to their songs live.
Bowie did this in the 70s and I'm not a fan of it. Play the songs as they're meant to be heard and if you are going to reinvent it make sure its got some energy at least!
This video should be retitled "How hyperbolical praise inflates the ego"
What? Why?
@@justaamateur6533 because thats what happened to him
@@theleftysmokes9977 Eh? He's fucking around with it live pretty early on, and arguably the 2018 one is closest to the original.
@@theleftysmokes9977 i don’t think so i think it’s a matter of him having to play this song so much, it gets boring. he probably just wants to mess around with it. don’t think it has anything to do with an ego.

My favourite part was when he finally stopped singing and playing really badly because the video ended.
Looks like he just needed a better drummer
Joss Stone ruined this and then he started singing it like her. Kills me.
Same…
Jesus. There was like a whole decade where that song fucking sucked.
As he became a better musician his song became worse. Goes to show. Sometimes with music what comes from the gut is often better than what comes from the head
Got worse as time went on.
The studio version is bar none the worst Stripes song and one of the most ear-grating pieces of shit I've ever heard. Thank God he changed it up live.
The middle was terrible
Took a long time but he never got any talent. Very sad case.

2012 cringe..then again the 10s really were shittest time for music. 20s not looking promising either. Might top myself.
There was wonderful and very great music being put out in the 10s and still being put out now, just have to look deeper.
You're either a child, or very old; those are the most common demographics for making dumb statements like that.
That song didn't age well
