When resizing bitmap layers, it's advisable to turn the layer into a smart object, then use the mask layer to remove bits. That way you won't lose pixel information when you shrink it down.
this is genius! the result is really awesome! I have so many Gameboy games I need to find a way to stash and or display better and this is the best thing I have seen yet, the other was a simple nail polish holder that held GB/GBC games in their protective cases perfectly.
I love this. I'd tried to do a similar alternative with eva foam which worked pretty well but the carpel tunnel from cutting was not fun. Phenomenal video as always!
Thanks so much for watching! And foam is an awesome idea too - keeps the game cozy. A bit more expensive, but still cheaper than buying 3d prints I imagine?
Definitely cheaper! But you are correct it's a bit more expensive. Only something i'd recommend if you already have it laying around or can get it cheap from a local craft store@@yourcoolunclemarisa
These are a great way to store them personally. They give a really cool extra retro aesthetic from the same era and look great on the shelf I store them along with other collectibles. I get through a guy in the UK that does 3D Printed game holders and the case inserts on photostock. Love the insert designs he makes mimicking the original boxes and the 3D printed holders are great quality.
Holy bananas this is awesome! I never even thought of cassette cases! I've got over 150 loose GBA carts and a 3d printer. Time to get at it :) Thank you!
Happy to see a more accessible way of doing this! I have my Neo Geo Pocket and Wonderswan games displayed this way. Still keeping an eye out for a good cassette holder.
Look for Add N Stac holders, they're the plastic ones you can hang and also come as drawers. Napa Valley also had nice wooden shelves. I am desperate to find the Maxell one I use but I think I've bought the only one that was listed online TT_TT
Very neat solution Uncle Marisa. I currently only have a couple of japanese GBC games which still have their cardboard boxes. But I'll have to keep this in mind for future purchases of loose carts.
This is so cool! Can't wait to try it out myself! But I might do this for my loose Nintendo Switch cartridges, and look for loose/extra cassette tape/cases in my collection. I'm so happy that this idea fits perfectly with what I already have!
I really like this, Marisa! Super cute and thanks for the print guide. I think I've found a new crafting project for this winter! Really enjoy the vibes in your videos.. always look forward to your posts! Thanks for sharing :)
This is a cool idea, and a nice recycling of cassette cases. If someone hasn't already mentioned it, a longer, folding J-Card would be cool to store the manual text instead of lyrics like the old days.
I purchased all the stuff for this about a year and a half ago and since then got into 3D printing and tried making those inserts. It’s great. But I’m totally trying this with all the card stock my mother hoarded from when I was a kid. I can make multiple colors and stuff with my cricut machine (I have a lot of machines and too many hobbies) thank you for the video I loved it
That's so cool! Practical too since cassette stuff is still more available. Now I'm thinking, if you have spare shipping foam laying around you could cut a piece the same size as the spine, cut a slot into it as long as the cartridge is wide, then jam that into the case.
I just got a bunch of plastic holders (the kind that originally came with the game boy games). There are reproduction one that … let’s say they stay closed too well. But that’s how I protected my games back in the day. Lately I’ve gotten a wooden tea bag drawer. Tea bags are basically the same dimensions as the plastic cases for game boy games! I ended up getting two drawers. The drawers have like three or four rows for tea bags, and I just use the first row for games and then take out the dividers for the others rows so I can fit my game boys in the other side. I ended up getting a second one for my gba games and gbas. Now I just flip through my games like tea bags.
Gosh, this is such a lovely idea! It's definitely an option to consider if I ever end up with a physical collection that isn't just the few games from my childhood... Also, total coincidence, but Advance Wars was my first GBA game! I'm *Terrible* at it lol
Back in 2000 I remember coming across bunch of cases that been video cassette tapes for a Sony camera (no clue what model or type). They were around the same size as audio cassette tape holders but thicker and didnt had those two triangles for the reels. Simple see-through hollow cases. So I use to put my gameboy carts in those and they fit perfectly like 6 of them in one or so idk it's been a long time. I sold all those long time ago. There are smaller ones that would fit GBA carts too. I suggest sourcing those type of things instead but not sure how much they cost or where can you get them today. There are so much sizes and formats so I guess you will have to do a research what size you need. If there are none then I suggest find a local factory that makes plastic items and commission them to make these cases, you can make a business out of it too if no one else is doing this. Honestly I would jump on this myself since I have a plastic factory not that far away from my location who makes custom stuff but I have no money nor time to mess with this, including research and whatever ... My life is a mess and I leave it that ... So good luck to you. I am good at giving ideas but can't help beyond that. My issue with cassette holders is that they are big for this, if I would collect these again, I would like to minimize clutter and the size. They hold only one cartridge but the size of the case is almost 3 times big (???) or so. Those triangles for the reels are the problem. So yeah that would take up too much space in my shelf / room.
"I have no money nor time to mess with this, including research and whatever ... My life is a mess and I leave it that ... " Honestly same. Let's hope someone else picks up this torch hahah. Thanks for watching!
Awesome way to store them. Should've saved the cassette cases my churchs audio and video department disposed this past summer. I only saved a near mint condition maxell 90 sealed tape. 😫 Will have to seek some on my next yard sale search.
I got the little clear plastic hard catridge cases in bulk on aliexpress or amazon. For gameboy and advance. They had original nintendo ones as well, but the quality is about the same, and those are more rare. I then just throw some in my bigger official japanese pokemon gameboy color bag that I got for a steal on ebay. Others I keep all the games in cases in a big ziplock for now in two rows...temporary solution. I can just stack um, but Im gonna get a cool like protective case for all of them soon. Your solution is much cuter though for sure and those likely can even fit in these cases as extra protection and displayability.
I use a Three Ring Binder that zips up with baseball card sheets for my Collection. I have a Consolized GBA but play more on the Epilogue GB Operator. I like the Rumble Feature for my version of Legend of the River King 2. You run the English version through the Gameboy ROM Analyzer on Windows and change the Cartridge type to 1EH and fix the header. This enables Rumble that was programmed into the Japanese version and just needs to be opened on the English version. The code is still there. The Earthquake at the beginning will let you know if you did it right. I Flashed mine to a Geek Tech Batterless Save Flash Cartridge with the Operator. It's a secret to everybody!!!!!
this is super cute!! almost makes me wish i had a printer (and cassette cases) i just bought a nail polish display stand and designed and 3d printed stands to go inside it so i could see the art better lol not anywhere near as pretty as yr solution but hey, it works
The cardboard inserts for box u can cut and fit in cassette tape but add always get 3D printed holder 😂 for memory card and othere game i get or make the box and or cover for cases on my custom Game Cases 👌
This is such a great suggestion! You’ve got several in your collection that are a mix of clear and opaque/color case pieces. Are those backs 3D printed or did you find them online in that combo somehow? Thanks!
Thank you! They just have different colored backs - it's really nice. I got an assorted box of cases from duplication - they are one of the few still in the business of making tapes and all the bells and whistles for them!
wow this feels like something that nintendo could've (and should've) done to sell the games. like it would save them manufacturing costs by selling gameboy games with small manuals stored in casette cases and with the spindle thingies snapped off, you could do that to GB and GBC games, or just any small-cart game that'll fit.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa hell I think Nswitch games would go hard in one of these. heck even SD cards, you could probably fit like 15 sd cards per cassette case and it would be a cool way to store them.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa I still think they could do something like this. Like have a cardboard box and then have the nice cassette storage inside the box. You store the cardboard boxes away and keep the cassettes in your nice storage solution
Hiya Uncle! Out of curiosity, what printer do you print your actual covers on? I've been looking for a decent printer for doing this sort of thing but struggling a bit as im not really sure what to look for.
Hey! I use a canon pixma pro 100. It's a BIG BOY and quite pricey, but it goes on sale with rebates really frequently if you live in the US. I think you can get it for at least half price at times.
despite the ease of emulation and ports, I believe gameboy and gameboy games are like toyotas and AK-47s. Made to be used and abused. That said, theres something indescribable about the GB through GBA boxes that's just *hnnng* on par with Saturn cases and SNES boxes.
It's there any AliExpress link to get those cases? Sadly got none laying around. I got a 3d printer so i was looking seriously into trying something for my tiny collection.
i keep them on an SD card... oh you mean the actual cartridges. i havent bought a GBA game since 2002 and you can emulate them on the equivilent of a postage stamp, so i havent felt compelled to buy any lately
