Having working as quant analyst in the past...I'm so surprised that young Generation still want to do this job....local volality , Heston, Hull and white, Black and Scholes etc.. are virtual world...use your applied mathematics background to create solutions for the world problem, how you can invest in the startup which aims to change the world in terms of ESG, etc.. .... that's my advice

I learnt a few things during my M.Sc. Economics and latter learn a lor of things while working for banks.
