I remember watching this in the 3rd grade and I would sing that song when my kids was talking about recycling. They looked at me like I was crazy making up song. Glad I can show them this little piece of my childhood
I used to watch this all the time at my local trash museum, I had no idea it was a Disney cartoon lol. But that song has lived in my head rent free for years haha
@@murderc27 Yeah basically it was a trash plant with a little exhibit section to teach kids about the process of trash management, as well as recycling and composting. I specifically remember walking through this tunnel that was supposed to be "underground" and it had all these massive plastic bugs that used to freak me out hahs. And as mentioned they had a movie theater where they would play this every hour lol
I haven't thought about this song since the early 90's when I was a little kid...why did it just pop into my head randomly in the middle of the night??? Also: "take the next step, buy recycled!"
YES-someone finally uploaded this! The Disney Channel used to show this in-between programs back in 1993. Yes...1993. It's definitely not the same Disney Channel now, and this brings back happy memories of a simpler time. :) I'm amazed at how so well-written, witty, fun and solid of a piece this is, and it stands the test of time. Thank you, my friend!
Wow, I remember they played this in daycare and I missed everything but the song. So for years I just would remember them singing recycle, reduce, reuse we can close the loop and after all these years I finally looked it up. I have to say this is a great product of its time and shows how far animation has come.
When I was a kid, I watched Recycle Rex and safety PSAs featuring Rex on the Disney Channel. I can't remember how many PSAs there were. I recall one about reaching home before the streetlights came on and another about wearing a helmet while bicycle riding.
I remember seeing this once as a child. That song stayed in my head for over 20 years and I thought to myself, I need to look this up. I'm amazed I remembered it.
That short was an Easter Egg on the Publicity menu of Disney Dinosuar Collectors Edition. Interesting that they show Klasky Csupo was involved with this short. Though they have Chucky Finster playing the 2 Spinosaurus twins.
Man, all these years this song has been in my head. The message got through to me, though, even now that I have to drive 15 minutes away to drop off the recycling.
Oh my goodness! I have used this movie for lessons for 25 years. I can recite every line of this movie. It's awesome! Now when I go to classes they can't play DVDs nor VCRs. But they can watch youtube! Thanks for posting this!
This was great! I noticed that some of the voices sounded like characters from Rugrats and The Magic School Bus. Even the music sounded very similar to TMSB!!
Yay!!! That was so awesome! I haven't seen this cartoon in so long! Thanks so very much for posting this! I always take the idea of recycling to heart.
If I time-traveled to the past...and help Disney realize this as a possible TV show/franchise or as a movie that doubles as a co-production between Walt Disney Feature Animation, a dream studio of mine and Klasky-Csupo....it could do wonders.
New animation for disney eductaionals were typically subcontracted, This was done by Klasky Csupo. the Winnie the Pooh fetauretess by Rick Reinert, Fitness and me by Pantonmine. and Totally Minnie by Filmfair. those are just some of the examples.
I love this movie, first I had it on vhs, then bought it on dvd, but now that I am doing Distant Learning am glad it is on youtube so I can push it out to my students. Love i!
Insane how I randomly remembered this song from my childhood. Anyway, I went down a rabbit hole with the voice actors and other things they've done, and figured out Rex is the lead singer from the band Phantom Planet (they do that California song. I guess it's the theme song from The O.C.? I dunno, never saw it.) But yeah... weird. Now I can't hear that song without thinking about his kid voice singing "Close The Loop" and vice versa. 😅

Did it have a giant t-Rex made out of soda cans? The one I went to had that and other than this video that’s all I remember
They didn't have to go so hard on this song, but they did...they did it for us! Just like Phil Collins and the Tarzan soundtrack 🔥🔥🔥
I'm 34 and this will pop in my head from time to time, without any prompting. MAKE IT STOP!!
Lmaoooo...same!! 35 here lol
Me too lol 34 here. Watched it back in 2nd grade LOL the song was catchy enough that I’ve never forgotten it
Additional note: RIP Christine Cavanaugh (1963-2014). So glad to hear her voice again; it is dearly, dearly missed.
Well Said Man
Nobody knows exactly what became of Christine.

I remember seeing this on a field trip a long time ago to a local power plant of all places if I remember right. Brings back memories.

I first saw this in my first grade classroom
Yep! Because that's how recycling works, we just send stuff through a magic machine and make it into something else.
Same screenwriter as, "The Lion King".
This brings back memories of kindergarten
More people should see this

You can't say the word recycle, without triggering this song.
rip christine cavanuagh
Remember watching this 1994

According To My Teacher
I love this movie, first I had it on vhs, then bought it on dvd, but now that I am doing Distant Learning am glad it is on youtube so I can push it out to my students. Love i!
It says the name of the person who created it in the credits.
Kindergarten 1995, I still had this recycle song stuck in my head.
Here because the voice of Recycle Rex is the lead singer in my favourite band
Insane how I randomly remembered this song from my childhood.

A Disney/Klasky-Csupo joint venture
Klasky-Csupo also did the opening sequence to 2007's Bridge to Terabithia for Disney.
looks more like tim burton inspirational to me.
Nice.

How does a triceratops have a shampoo bottle that resembles a human? Let alone Cleopatra, who wouldn't be born for a couple million years
1:50 Recycle Rex Tells Professor Hinkle To Stop LOL!😂
This has been seen in Disney's DINOSAUR 2 Disc Collector's Edition DVD.
I was going to say the same thing about where I caught the action of this “Disney Educational” short.
Throwback to kindergarten 2004
Watch this in 3rd grade! Amazing
Did tim burton do the character design?
Have not seen this since it first aired
My Childhood Right Here...
Description is changed. Feel free to use it for class.
Thank you very much!!
It's bring back good memories
I remembered the song!!
Recycle Rex Tells Alameda Slim To Stop
30 years later - 90% of that stuff isn't even recyclable.
Loving memories.

Shame that recycling turned out to be the biggest scam of all
I hear the voice of chuckie.
Hello old people
I am a teacher and would love to show this to my class. Any chance you can remove the swear word from the video description?
Un clásico
