Even if you've played the original game you wouldn't understand unless you got the extra DLC. That's where Ellie got part "Too" of the pun book. Hopefully you're reading this comment after you've watched the full reaction.
In the game there’s no indication about how Ellie separates from Riley, whether she kills her, traps her, or just runs away from her, or if Riley realizes Ellie isn’t turning in time and does something herself. The show added the whole “not my first time” about shooting someone, and I think that’s all we’re going to get.
To be honest, this was the worst episode ever. Almost an hour of a teenage lesbian love drama. Watching them explore a mall. So boring! Shame on you HBO for slipping in this hour which is like a totally different show. And to make it worse, it's all just a flashback and predictable what happens. Just really bad.

"He played the game" but I guess not the DLC. All good. So you know this was almost shot for shot and line for line the entire episode for the Ellie past scenes in Left Behind DLC (of course with a small change or two and extra. but minute changes. Ironically the most faithful to the game for an entire episode.
This episode is honest to god better than the original Left Behind DLC. I loved how throughout the episode they were showing hints how both Ellie and Riley had a huge crush on each other. Like Riley imagining Ellie in the lingerie and Ellie checking her reflection to see if she looked good. Then when they finally kissed I just clutched my heart because it was so sweet. But what really got me was the final scene of Ellie stitching up Joel, she never left Riley behind so she wasn’t going to leave the only other person she ever loved behind either. And then when the original “Left Behind” theme kicked in that’s when the water works kicked in.😭😭😭

Ellie got Joel there using a travois that the horse dragged behind it. A standard for native Americans and others. 2 poles attached to either side if the horse with (in this case) the sleeping bag attached between them and Jole rolled onto it. Still very difficult but doable even for Ellie.
I think she just tied Joel's sleeping bag and dragged it. You can see the bag and ropes behind the horse when it shakes the snow off it's head. Poles would have been great but no sign she had any. Also the blood smear in the snow leading up to the house looks more like something flat on the ground was dragged. The track marks are actually really weird and I don't think we can read too much into them.
Such good times as a kid at the local mall arcade, we used to have Marvel Vs Capcom and Samurai Showdown Tournaments where there would always be about 30 people competing, those were the days..
I must say . Bella didn't catch my attention before starting the show. But she is freaking amazing, and so is pedro.. but Bella really surprised the heck out of me .
Ellie has transported Joel with sleeping bag and rope on the horse. This can be seen firstly in the tracks in the snow and secondly in the garage where the horse stands. Riley chose Mileena in Mortal Kombat 2 and Ellie played Baraka. Both were Lovers in the game. Baraka skewered Mileena as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley. I think she stabbed her. That's why she asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him. Previous episode, Ellie wanted a sip of liquor from Joel and said "still gross". This was her first time. I actually thought Ashley Johnson (game Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory.
Elle said she killed before. She killed Riley. She didn't consider her as an infected. That's why she was so entralled and angry with the clicker in episode 3.
Ellie said she killed before, I think Ellie meant the infected in the mall. My take is that the Fireflies found them because it was a base for Riley. They killed Riley and took Ellie to their Firefly lock up because she wasn't showing signs of turning.
"Can I have my Walkman back?" Whoops, Bella, you forgot your accent for that line! Also, I love how the flashback starts and ends with Ellie being given two options, and she ends up taking option 3 both times.
And another episode of "we can't have nice things" down. Great job, I always enjoy your reactions. FYI, Raiden is based on Big Trouble in Little China.
I’m guessing the guy didn’t play the dlc, the dlc happened around this part where Ellie was trying to help save joel. I don’t think they’ll show more of it because that’s how the dlc ended without us seeing anything but we might have Ellie open up to joel about it at most
Between the heartwarming cute moments showcasing Ellie and Riley finally being able to act like kids again for once, if only for a little while...... only to rip it all away again for the seventh time in a row (damn you, show), this never ending River of tragedy that follows Ellie is emblematic of not just the shows central theme but why Ellie continues to fight, to carry on. It showcases her and Riley on opposite sides of an ideological, real and tribalistic conflict before they lay down their arms and come together to just be close for a little while because they're each others purpose in this moment; a fascinating parallel to the Bill and Frank love story and why it matters greatly when Ellie continues to lose and lose. And now that she does have someone who looks after her, who she can depend on, who matters to them, she’ll be damned if she loses them again. For Riley’s sake and everyone else who died, Ellie will finish this journey……even if it kills her.
Omg the sheer disappointment of missing out on the chairs at brookstone cracked me up. I was figuring they'd find a hot topic or something. Not sure of the filming order of the show, but I'll take a guess they filmed Ellie's life in the QZ on a 2nd unit film crew. Then did Joel's life 1st unit crew. Then stitched the show together with great edit. Just like this episode Left Behind is stitched together from edits of Ellie's life and the later story of saving Joel. "I had a cassette once." Meanwhile here's my ancient ass with a bunch of cassettes I recorded off the radio. "Did this all go down in October?" September! So the Halloween store would be there. IMO I liked this episode but there were a couple of things. Would an arcade in 2003 still carry Mortal Kombat II (a 10 yr old game at that point)? And it annoyed me that Ellie didn't sterilize the needle or thread at the end. At least dip them in alcohol first (which Joel should have from the games). Otherwise his wound is just going to get infected. Love all the plugs for Brookstone!
Anytime I get a whiff of Dawn Of The Dead I get concerned because I immediately wonder which direction they’re going, (‘78 original recipe or the new, XTREME ‘04 recipe.) But, I did like how this episode handled it.
I feel like a walkman would be *really* valuable to those kids, but they weren't exactly easy to come by in 2003 when the world stopped, how the hell did ellie find one and keep it stocked with batteries.
@@ISavant I agree. I also feel that Ellie isn't the type to wait until something is handed out. We know she's crafty. I'm just speculating. And with the way this show is, they'll leave us curious about something just to clear it up two episodes later. Likely not the case here, as it's a pretty mundane detail, but who knows?
Making replacement batteries is not easy. Not only do they have to be the correct voltage, but they have to be the right size and shape, also strong enough not to leak acid when turned upside down as would happen in a flashlight or Walkman. I don't think the game designers expected players to question that bit. I guess the easiest explanation is all the batteries left are rechargeable. Nickel-Cadmium rechargeable batteries were available in the decades before the outbreak.
@@testfire3000 Fedra is already making drugs and ammunition. Do you really think they don't have a few people capable of making batteries? The things have been around for decades...they're not exactly cutting edge technology.
I think Riley turns and obviously Ellie does not. Ellie more than likely tried to get through to zombie Riley, but couldn't so she took the gun and shot Riley. Ellie probably just stood over Riley's body in shock, confusion, and grief before leaving the area. That's just my thoughts since it's never revealed what truly happened.
I think Ellie stayed in the mall until Marlene and the fireflies came to pick up Riley (remember she was going to Atlanta that same day). Marlene knows who Ellie is and has probably been keeping tabs on her all these years. She saw that she was bitten but hadn't turned. She couldn't bring herself to kill her so she took her into custody and tested her for three weeks to see if she would turn, but she didn't.
In the game we only got little about Ellie and her bff but they never showed how they separated we will never know if she had to shoot her bff orrr idk but it'll be nice if they recap on it
"Whether it's 2 minutes or 2 days, we don't give up... we never give up" * cut to Joel *... she runs with the needle and thread and sews his wound.... and I am ugly crying...
She didn't. She laid him on his sleeping bag, then used rope to drag the bag to the nearest shelter. See the horse shake the snow off it's head, you can see the ropes and bag on the ground. Just before we see the horse, you can see bloody drag marks leading up to this house.

My least favorite episode so far. I have the same problem with this and the last episode. They decided to change both the scape from the university and the scape from the infected (both packed of action in the game) for a smaller more “calm” version of it. Feels a little bit underwhelming. Also the arcane part on the game was more emotional if you ask me. It would have be rough to watch but since they have gone the extra way to expand on moments I would’ve liked for them to show how Riley start turning while Ellie waits. But that’s just me been Masochist I guess 😂
This was the weakest episode for me. It didn't really invoke the emotions it was supposed to. The biggest downfall was the lack of Joel and ellie focus, she is seeing and feeling the way she did in the past and she's desperate to not lose Joel. Instead the episode focuses almost exclusively on the past. Maybe it will be emphasized in the next episode, but breaking Joel's injury into 3 different episodes loses the emotional value.
I feel like if I was in the world of the last of us and got bit I would be the kinda person to wait it out and turn then to shoot myself, I wonder if u feel pain when u become a clicker.
I feel like two major things the show missed out on are how the game led you to believe Joel was dead for a while before hinting at and then revealing that Ellie managed to keep him alive, and how there hadn’t been any romance or intimacy yet and Bill and Frank’s relationship can be easily missed, so while there are very subtle hints, Ellie kissing Riley was actually very surprising. Two major reveals that were unfortunately underwhelming in this episode.
This episode was just okay. It doesn’t move anything along which is a bit annoying. I wish they would do bits of this episode spread out over multiple episodes so that the story continues. I don’t need a break and watch another flashback for 90 percent of a show ever
I think it’s better. Let’s them unfold the storie like mini movies. Really get people invested and focused. TV has WAY too many shows with constant flashbacks.
Humm, this is the story, you find out what makes ellie who she has become. It shows you why there is a bond between Joel and Ellie they are basically the same. People need to stop thinking there needs to be something huge every episode
@@Noclaf555 Right?? I realised its people who have something against lgbt or people who want action in every ep that hate this episode. The show is a STORY about Ellie and Joel not about the infected. Its about the main characters. We have to connect to them in order for us to connect with El in S2. I'm glad these losers don't write show lol. Neil is an amazing writer. The game shows that.
It massively moved the character development along, though. Not everything is physical plot line stuff moving from A to B. The emotional journey the characters go on is, in some ways, even more important than the 'plot' in this show. We needed more context from Ellie's character. We already got Joel's perspective and context on what made him tick from the day of the outbreak, even, but this is the first time that it fills in the blanks for Ellie, why she acted the way she did leading up to this moment where Joel tries to make her leave him to die, and she refuses to give up on him. That bonding moment would never have resonated as much without all of the back story revealed on both sides informing the audiences of their previous experiences, fears and traumas which now influence their decisions in the present day.

They put Take on me , you can' t mess with Take on Me
Anthony: *BROOKSTONE*
Man its that time of the year where the gnats come back. My hands are red af from trying to slap them down.
I SAID FARRIS WHEEL TO😭😭 my sister corrected me
They never visited Brookstone 😔
Anytime I get a whiff of Dawn Of The Dead I get concerned because I immediately wonder which direction they’re going, (‘78 original recipe or the new, XTREME ‘04 recipe.)
But, I did like how this episode handled it.
In the Left Behind DLC for the game they never show what happens after they get bit.
You like The Dead Mall series by Dan Bell and The Proper People?

Genie in a Bottle is a sexy song... Don't let anyone hate on you for it...
Hi great video please can u tell me who that character is 2 places to my left from One Piece on the shelf behind you both…
What's the thing about Brookstone that makes Anthony keep mentioning it?
Pearl Jam is one of your MOMS favorite bands?? How old am I?!!??!! 😂😂😂
You guys should totally check out the newest Mortal Kombat movie. It was alot of fun to watch.
Everybody come and play
Throw every last care away
Let's go to the mall
Today
I feel like a walkman would be *really* valuable to those kids, but they weren't exactly easy to come by in 2003 when the world stopped, how the hell did ellie find one and keep it stocked with batteries.
Fedra probably makes batteries. Case in point being their flashlights appear to require them.
The rarity of the Walkman, yeah, I feel you.
@@ivankawnartist even if they did that's still not a resource you'd want to hand out like candy.
Interesting, so firefly pendants don't exist here?
Ok ok okķkkkkkkkkkkk now we are talking yes the episode is good
In the game we only got little about Ellie and her bff but they never showed how they separated we will never know if she had to shoot her bff orrr idk but it'll be nice if they recap on it
two last episodes going to be so good.
Ellie didn't get him on the horse, the ground had drag marks, and there was the discarded bedding or tarp in the garage with a rope on it.
Never watch the preview for the next episode. It's just spoilers.
You all mentioned Dawn of the dead have you done a reaction of it? I love that movie so much
Show is great so far but I feel like it could have maybe been 10-12 episodes? Feels a little bit rushed.
"Whether it's 2 minutes or 2 days, we don't give up... we never give up" * cut to Joel *... she runs with the needle and thread and sews his wound.... and I am ugly crying...
Girl, you TALK!
Girl, it’s a REACTION!
We all asking the same question
How did Ellie get Joel back on the horse?
She didn't. She laid him on his sleeping bag, then used rope to drag the bag to the nearest shelter. See the horse shake the snow off it's head, you can see the ropes and bag on the ground. Just before we see the horse, you can see bloody drag marks leading up to this house.
Every reactor so far not recognising that yes awesome aha but it’s an 80’s song and what does 80’s mean in this show 😢
In the game that was it
I think Florence Pugh will be the nice one to play as Abby in Chapter 2 Season 2.
That’s gotta be the WORST fan cast I’ve ever heard Jesus Christ, and I love Florence. But no. God no
I WILL NOT watch an adaption of that horrible Last of Us 2. Hated the sequel.
If the next installment of the games goes the way it seems to me(team up with hated character) Naughty Dog will not get my money.
@@angelohernandez6060 why’d you have to announce that lol, like who do you think cares
@@angelohernandez6060 Oh thank god Angelo! I was worried you might show up in comments next season; but thank goodness your dumb a$$ opinions won't be there. Wish you the best...and Naughty Dog doesn't need your money LOL
Have you seen Abby? She's tall and buff. I'm sorry but no matter what Florence do she can never capture Abby's physique. Unless they use a very tiny actress to play older Ellie. But it's a big NO.
You guys wasted the most intense part of the episode guessing what would happen...
Brookstone was my first thought too, but for gadgets 😂
It’s the reason she does this give up to fight for every moment they had like she did with Riley. 😢
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Bro they got attacked by a zombie and showing their bite marks and your just 😃😃😁 like what is there to smile about
He did the same thing in episode 5 when Henry shot Sam then shot himself. It's weird.
😮😮😮 mutual crushes.
The guy in the vídeo reacts: 😬
"There's 2 paths: you become an authoritarian scumbag who abuses people, or you take the abuse of the authoritarian scumbags." There's actually a third path. One Weird Trick Authoritarians Dont Want You to Know About.
Joel is protect by his huge plot armor that's why he doesn't die.
♥️♥️
Alien vs predator 2 plzzzz
Dawn of the Dead reaction when??
Tell your lady she needs more lip gloss. Her lips clearly need to be more wet lol
True.
This and ep 3 are the weakest.
Way too much flashbacks.
I feel like if I was in the world of the last of us and got bit I would be the kinda person to wait it out and turn then to shoot myself, I wonder if u feel pain when u become a clicker.
Por dios, por que la chica habla tanto???????
I feel like two major things the show missed out on are how the game led you to believe Joel was dead for a while before hinting at and then revealing that Ellie managed to keep him alive, and how there hadn’t been any romance or intimacy yet and Bill and Frank’s relationship can be easily missed, so while there are very subtle hints, Ellie kissing Riley was actually very surprising. Two major reveals that were unfortunately underwhelming in this episode.
They kissed each other, THIS IS SUCK
Didn't play the game. How did little Ellie drag dead weight, Joel? adrenaline?
She fashioned a fabric sled and put him on it, no doubt with considerable effort on her part, even with adrenaline, and had the horse pull the sled.
You can see the makeshift sled still tied to the horse
