    Good morning Ray, good video. I have a quick story, I was with my wife sitting in traffic and she said "Wow I've never seen the temp gauge that high" I started to find a way out of traffic QUICK the AC had also started blowing warm air too. Long story short it was the electric fan I smacked it with my lug wrench and it came on yay 😁 !! Luckily the high pressure valve didn't have time to discharge any freon 👍. The part of your video when the runaway 10 mm took a dash I was like yup there goes another one Lol. You have the coolest tools that magnet is a life saver for sure !!
    Thank you for another great video!! And don't forget to have yourself a great day 👍👍✌️🇺🇸😊.

      I find if my heater is cold - then the coolant is low because it not circulating any coolant to the heater core. It how I found the coolant leak from the LPG gas convertors under the bonnet. My car on LPG has 2 convertors using coolant heat to vaporise? the GAS to Liquid conversion. EDIT - my car wont switch over to LPG from Petrol unless temp at 35c or higher (1/4 on temp gauge).

      Agreed, the lowest melting point solder (63-37) melts at 374 deg F and the plastic wire insulation will melt off before the solder would. A proper solder joint will make a lower resistance connection that is corrosion resistant and physically stronger than the wire.

      Now you have realized how easily the mind is programmed.
      The CORPORATE GOVERNMENT uses sucj knowledge to
      manipulate people and indoctrinate the, with lies and deception
      from the first day at school.
      So they become obedient servants of the CORPORATE GOVERNMENT RELIGION

  • @cliffcollins4124
    @cliffcollins4124 2 года назад +31

    Ray, I really enjoiy your videos please keep them coming. But as a retired Marine electrician I have to disagree with your crimp against soldier stance.
    In high current circuits. The crimp, no matter how well installed, will show resistance. That resistance causes heat and that causes expansion in the joint. the copper wire swells with the heat and pushes the crimp fitting open just a fraction, when the current is shut down the conductor shrinks again then it really starts to loosen off and the bad joint causes more heat, more shrinking/swelling and the crimp continues to be expanded and loosened. You will have seen how the insulation in the back of old spade joints etc has hardened and blackened, even damaging the conductor, till the joint fails.
    Ofcause this action is dependent on the Conductors max carrying ability and the amps passing through it.
    You stated you didn't solder this fan joint because it is a high current circuit, I will tell you that a soldered joint, done properly will heat less than the conductor itself, because the joint is coated with lead, so you have the current carrying capacity of the conductor and that of the lead added to it.
    Anyway that's my 5 cents worth, looking forward to your next video.

    • @svenschwingel8632
      @svenschwingel8632 2 года назад +8

      I can tell you that much: if you have a proper solder joint, heating up due to current will be the least of your problems. Vibration? Maybe. It's always better to keep connections of any kind steady.
      If the normal operating current would really melt a solder joint, the cable diameter itself was too small to begin with and its insulation would have melted off anyway.

    Being old enough for free coffee I have recently started letting the younger kids do some of the grunt work on my vehicles- a few months back I had a young mechanic at the yard I drive rigs out of change the vacuum pump o-ring on my 3.5 Ecoboost. I'm just too damn old for laying across an engine anymore...
    Bolt gravity reached up and grabbed one of the 3 pump bolts, and he went into full panic mode when he couldn't find it. It was a Sunday, we are out in BFG, and he knew no one would be open to get a replacement. After letting him sweat for a bit I grabbed the antigravity fishing rod and with a few tries pulled it out from between the trans heatshield and the cab floorpan. He now has one in HIS toolbox!

    Had a Honda Odyssey, New from a highly rated dealership, (The first year they came up with the large size model). With all the services done at the dealership, and less than two years of use, the damn thing would not pickup speed no matter how much I press on the gas Pedal. Received a letter from Honda about a recall for that particular issue. They said that cables near the ignition switch get hot and engine losses power.
    Called the dealer for an appointment, got one over a month later. Took the van in, got it back the next day, dealer claims they did all the recall repairs.
    The van wouldn’t pickup speed out of the dealer’s lot. Stopped and told them about the problem still existing. They got mad and told me to leave and never come back. Took it to another dealer, they refused to work on the recall since another dealer has done the work already.
    The next day, took it to a Hyundai dealership, traded it in with a brand-new Sonata. Never been happier, and never looked back at Honda again.

      Awww. I have a 2008, with that same 3.5l engine with 150k miles. Just did the timing belt and valve cover gaskets (thanks ETCG). I can put 11 sheets of 3/4 plywood in the back if I take out the middle seats (Hurricane Irma) - it's my truck of choice. Regularly drive it 1000 miles up North to see the kids. It'll last forever, as long as I treat it right. It's also comfortable as heck for us tall folks.
      My wife has a ten year old Civic with 50k miles. Other than change fluids, it hasn't needed anything but a battery and a set of tires. My 2001 Goldwing just runs and runs. These ancient Hondas rock. Sounds like your problem was with the dealers, not the cars.

    I believe the issue with the connector was due to an insecure fit of the pins to the plastic allowing them to bend and jam when you try and connect it. It happened often with the old school molex power connectors. Solution was to pull on the cables to make sure they are tensioned and straight as you plug the connector and maybe jiggle them a bit.

      Most adults are so embarrassed by their lack of knowledge
      and previous scholastic failures that they become offended
      when being taught something new.
      Thus they shoot them-self in the foot and remain ignorant
      until the day they die.
      Not one living creature is born with knowledge - only instinct
      for survival - and humans are born with a gift for something.
      Everything else is learned from some 'one' else ...

    Properly crimped connectors are fine - especially if they are sealed watertight. Properly made soldered connections are better. They have lower resistance, meaning they do not heat up as much as any other kind of connection. Any soldered connection that heats up enough to melt the solder only does so if it is carrying too much current for the wires it connects.
