This brings back memories. Sadly, some of the "flops" of this season were some of the best shows on. Like "The Paper Chase," got cancelled after one season on CBS only to find a new life on Showtime Television for several seasons after the series was repeated on PBS. "Kaz," which should have been renewed on CBS as well. And one of my favorites of that season "Sword Of Justice" that NBC never gave a chance to.

DAMN , now I feel old . I watched most of these as they were broadcast .
So did I
God, I LOVE the intro to The Paper Chase! It's too bad it was short-lived. :(
The classical music to the later years wasn't bad, either, just not Pop 70s.
It was revived a few years later but it didn't have the same vibe for me.🇬🇧
R.I.P. Robin Williams.
He just went back to Ork.
Jim Belushi as Bert Gunkle.
I almost forgot how great it was growing up in the 70's and 80's . I left home in 1988 @ 17 yrs old to join the USMC and spent 33yrs there.
so many of these near and dear to my heart and my childhood like WKRP, Taxi and Mork and Mindy others I don't remember at all like Sword of Justice and Mary and remember Kaz was a good show thought it was cancelled too soon.
13:09 lol! a salute to 15 years of The Rolling Stones hits!
1978 was definitely a memorable year, and I was only 7. I remember the snowstorm of '78, we dug crazy tunnels and forts in my yard and on the lake. These shows WERE SO BAD.
I remember that I was much older got weeks off school
Hey, remember when we used to have snow? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Snow forts in Rhode Island for days....
Tell me more about your lake fort. That's why I'm here.
I was 11.
@@williampowell3378 So?
Wow what a monster year for tv. So many classics. WKRP, Taxi, Battlestar Galactica
Poor Mcean Stevenson just couldn't get that hit show after MASH.
Wow...what a bagful of absolute classics!
I was 1K, What a flood of memories, the music of the television themes, life when it was so much better than today, I need a time machine.
You were 1,000? How old are you today 😏
@@nonamegame9857 🤣 I meant to say I was the one thousandth like.
I was a Paper Chase nerd!
Me too, especially enjoyed the episodes on Showtime a few years later.
That Sunday when Battlestar Galactica premiered it was interrupted by the signing of The Camp David Accords. When the signing ceremony was over the show picked up where it left off. I had set my schedule for that day by Galactica's premier and had to report for work at 11 PM for the overnight shift. No (widespread use of) VCRs in those days. Going forward, every Sunday night for months was defined by watching Battlestar Galactica before i had to head-in to work. If early starts were scheduled then I missed that week's episode 😥 . I haven't watched much of Battlestar Galactica over the past several decades but I still have a high opinion of it out of a sense of nostalgia.
Cool
Was just thinking of the peace accords today. Sad what is happening in Israel now.
@@deidrezbiegien5549 You said it. Broad implications for global stability.
"Here's a dime. Call your mother and tell her you're not going to be a lawyer." Larry Hagman said he had two scripts to choose from for the 1978 season: "The Waverly Wonders" or "Dallas." I wonder how that turned out?
That's funny.
So many inspired by blockbusters movies -- W.E.B by Network, Battlestar Galactica by Star Wars, The Paper Chase by the same. The resurgence of the movie industry in the late '70s changed the face of TV.
Wow what a year! WKRP, Battlestar, Mork, Taxi, Paper Chase, Vegas
Paper Chase was one of the all-time great TV programs.
Dull
@@jerrywoods4066 Hardly. But it's not an action show. It's more cerebral and about cultivating character (in individuals) and justice (in society).
@@christophergraves6725 yeah I know . I tried watching it back then. Couldn't get into it. The characters were not very interesting
@@jerrywoods4066 People are different. I loved the show and could identify with what the students were going through since I was in graduate school at the time. I also appreciated the issues that they addressed in the law as well as the bonds of friendship forged under the duress of demands of their classes.
@@christophergraves6725 I get it. My buddy is a teacher. He liked this show alot.
I feel old.
so do i.....i was 6 back then :D
I'd already had my first kid! :)
hoosierwood because we are......haha but we were lucky to live in this time.i think tv was special in the 60s and 70s.my kids don't understand you had to wait for programs you wanted to see.
Tiger Tiger - Hallelujah and pass the frijoles mon ami.
I know right?
Oh god thank you for the memories of these shows and great love for robin William ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😅😅😅😅😅😅😅🎉🎉🎉🎉
I like seeing the old las Vegas lights.
Sad to think none of it is left, Actors or Casinos.
What a great year for new shows. All my favorites.
Man, people in 1978 watching that Battlestar Galactica intro must have been like 'THE BROUGHT STAR WARS TO TV!'
Yep. it was pretty cool at start, but worn on rather quickly. Same with Buck Rogers, which only had 1 good season, season 2 was a total creative shakeup and failure.
George sued them too!
Man, I love these show openings. I don't even think that today's shows have openings any more. If they do, it's like three seconds long.
Battlestar Galactica was my Star wars. Always wanted to go and see Star wars, but we were ...well, short money. So Battlestar Galactica took its place, and I loved it.
That VEGA$ theme was great! As was Baretta, SWAT, The Love Boat and Starsky & Hutch among others.
1978 Arguably the best year for new shows ever.
That would be 1982.
This brings back a lot of memories.
WKRP and Taxi? Tv excellence that hasn't been touched since.
The Real and only Battlestar Galactica IMO!And this mat have nothing to do with! Battlestar Galactica! But Connie Sellica was Gorgeous!
"You come in here with your minds full of mush, but you leave here with razor sharp, double-edged legal dual mind blades."
Mr Fucking Show
That was long before How To Get Away With Murder. 😉
Or words to that effect...
When B Galactica premiered, it was a 3 hour show and I think there was an ABC SPECIAL report that interupted it. Carter was in office. I always mentioned about Mork and Mindy death kneel: moving from Tuesday's wonderful slot w/ Happy Days to Sunday. Also, the ep where Mork shrunk down into a microuniverse. And Mirth!! But I LOVED The Paper Chase excellent show, low ratings. great opening theme. Still haven't seen the SHOWTIME eps 1980-82??
notgrillo collector/ gamer It was the announcement of the signing of the Camp David Peace Accord by Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin, brokered by Jimmy Carter.
Yes! Mork kept shrinking and I was scared in daylight when I saw it
The initial episode was actually at the theatre. Jayne Seymour was in it. She got whacked by a Cylon and that’s how Apollo got Boxey.
Some of these shows look interesting. I look forward to them coming out this fa...oh wait.
Forget it.
Don't worry. Hollywood will be remaking them all soon enough. I hear they're casting Will Smith as Kingsfield in "Paper Chase - SJW."
Michael Keaton, David Letterman in MARY.
Yeah, whatever became of those guys?
@@peterwyetzner5276 "They're living on the air in Cincinnati. Cincinnati WKRP." Not really...
Second city alums
David Letterman was on mork and mindy as a jerk lol
@@daveyhouston he played himself? :p
Oh my God, one CLASSIC after another!!! What a GREAT time to be 8 years old!!
Alright, alright...in fairness, 1978 just got weaker after Taxi. I was there, in 1978...and I have never heard of "Flying High," haha
Looks like some wanna be Hybrid between the Love Boat and Charlie's Angels...with an airplane. That's probably a big part of the reason I don't remember/never knew of it.
Wow...and then we roll into stuff I don't remember, but I SHOULD...because they have Chachi, Henry Blake and Belushi's brother in them!!
And then Joe Namath!!! Stop it, 1978...you're killin' me!!!
The promo with Rue McClanahan and Dabney Coleman(and Jack Gilford) was called "'Apple Pie'. lasted 7 episodes.
Had to dig through the comments quite a bit. Thanks for naming the show.
Great year for tv
Wow, perhaps the best year in the history of television! So many legendary shows (Taxi, Mork and Mindy, WKRP, Vegas).
Amazing how many significant shows that year. Paper Chase was something. Outside of Houseman what an incredible array of nobodies on that show!
It did have a few future stars, though. Robert Ginty, Marylu Henner, Kim Cattrall, John Goodman, etc.
I remember Ron Liebman won an award for Kaz (People's Choice, I think) and when he came up to accept the award, he joked about Kaz not being pre-empted because it had already been canceled.
We played VEGA$ in the Junior High marching band, true story.
21:22
Should have been:
"What's the inducement?"
"A lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate":-)
Back when TV didn't suck.
lol most of these were trash. Nostalgia's a hell of a drug.
BSG, Mork & Mindy, WKRP and Taxi! The fall season is looking great so far!
DACK
RAMBO!
I love that name!
I completely forgot about Sword of Justice! That show had a great antihero premise and some clever episodes. Why hasn't it been remade over and over?
It's a cool hollywood name. He played one of the coolest characters on DALLAS as short lived as it was.
suffering succotash... lmao... wow, how long did it take for you to realize she was lying?
Dack Rambo: Also the male lead in "Dirty Sally." Short-lived but, I was a kid and I got a kick out of it.
I love his name, too! It has a Troy McClure-esque feel to it!
great channel, love it!
It’s Such A Simpler Time

Simpler Today.
Trip down memory lane.
I was 7 in 1978. Looking back, I realize Judy Landers did something to me. ❤😂
To bad Battlestar Galatica, only lasted about 20 episodes, would have loved it if the found earth, Galatica 1980, they found earth, but with only some of the original cast
I get home on the weekend, make a drink , and put on 70's tv show intros. it makes me forget about the rotten world for a while.
Four well-remembered debuts: Battlestar Galactica, Mork & Mindy, WKRP and Taxi
Priscilla Lopez (16:38) also portrayed a nurse on a CBS medical show in 1986 called Kay O'Brien. That show was also very short-lived
