    The fact Deepak has convinced so many people that quantum mechanics supports his ideas on alternative medicine saddens me. I had a friend (not a physics person) once try and suggest his quantum healing book to me before I immediately had to explain to them the problems with his ideas and how it's all just quantum woo. Glad to see other physicists trying to challenge his notions on some level.
    On a side note, is there a Kickstarter for Gunjan to record a cover of Rasputin by Boney M. yet because I'd be down to fund it 100% LOL

    Dipak has a cousin in India who is not just a famous politician but a self-appointed mathematical genius. He discovered how 2ab is generated out of dust in the equation (a + b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab...according to this expert, this is sheer magic and demonstrates how we can create stuff out of thin air...Sigh...the times we live in...

    I bought one of Deepak Chopra's books about 35 years ago as he was becoming a known and popular figure. About 1/4 into the book I realized it was essentially a whole lot of bovine excretion and tossed it. Instead, I began reading Bertrand Russell, Christopher Hitchens, Robert Ingersoll, Carl Sagan, and many others. This guy Deepak is full of it (BS), and a lot of baloney.

      I watched a casual debate Chopra had with Richard Dawkins and Chopra made a few bizarre claims. He said a living cell has conciousness and that electrons were sentient. To make it worse, a part of the audience wildly applauded him. Dawkins was so indignant with anger that he could barely stammer out a response.
      I'm not a scientist (I'm a nurse) but even I knew that was a ludicrous thing to proclaim. Chopra is a very strange person.

    I’ve studied physics and specifically did some extra work on quantum mechanics and so I would say I have a good understanding of it.
    Don’t take deepak chopra’s work lightly. The fathers of quantum mechanics were all metaphysicists and philosophers in their own right and many already argued how consciousness is primary and any external world is a layer on top of that, which Occam’s razor would eliminate (but is of course not proof that the external world does not exist)
    Quantum mechanics does have a lot to do with consciousness, as QM exposed the metaphysical standpoint that there is an observer looking out at a separate world. Quantum mechanics exposed that in fact we as observers are quantum mechanically entangled with everything around us.
    Denying this usually is (quite unscientifically) motivated by egotistically holding on to an older Newtonian world view and rationalized away as pseudoscience.
    Scientifically, it is a double standard to not question the source of assumptions about there being an external world and consciousness arising out of that. Similarly by the way for the assumption that an external world just came into existence out of nothing, or the assumption that science will eventually be able to explain everything which happens in the universe. These are both very bold assumptions with no solid ground

    • @vindifrenzy1100
      @vindifrenzy1100 3 месяца назад

      Yeah “quantum mysticism” was a term invented because the majority of mainstream science is still rooted in newtonian physics which is a completely physicalistic view of the world. Many people still chose to hold these physicalistic values in spite of quantum physics coming to life.

    "it's discretely continuous and continuously discrete" lmao.
    Yeah.........The problem with philosophers and philosophy when attempting to comprehend the fundamentals of physics is that they tend to use ALOT more emergent terminology and concepts to explain the things that make those up which means you are often making an equivocation fallacy. Yes, physicists do this as well (especially when discussing the e mergence of space and time) but they understand the problem and TYPICALLY make an attempt to use less conflating words as possible. Deepak doesn't realize this and is probably why he sounds very nonsensical in this video. Also he advocates some deranged form of cubism so it's already a yikes for me

    Deepak Chopra pretends he understands Quantum Mechanics sufficiently to be able to evolve explanation of consciousness and phenomena out of it, and in the process spits out incoherent babble. However the four gentlemen and women here did not help. Their focus is on competing how derisive one can be and how cool and smart they can sound. Watching this does not help one get even a little closer to understand correct interpretation of Mr Chopra’s word salad. They are also incorrect at times - one does not need to chose reductionist view vs emergent phenomena as they both can be models of different phenomena (try mechanical vs organic processes). We all know a tiny tiny fraction of what is to be known - so put your bits people, do not just act superior.

    You can have a discrete change across a boundary that would be described as a discontinuous function. I think some of you nitpicked that a bit too much. Any time something goes through a discrete change, it is interesting philosophically, even if not always physically useful, to ask the question about what really happens at the boundary or interstitial space.
    That said, Deepak and his ilk should be cancelled.

    The thing is he knows his audience doesn't understand him . Thats all you need to know about him. That and his net worth. Communication is two way. You stop and ask are you understanding me and then you stop talking when you honestly realise by non verbal cues that the other person hasn't a clue. This is a form of hypnosis. As people struggle to understand they concentrate hard then Deepak says a few words which become beleifs in the unconscious mind of the victims. I can tell you of organisations that use techniques like this and have taken billions from people with para-military style execution . I have looked at some Scientology stuff and it is a similar thing but less aggressive than the organisations I know of. People don't realise how many of them there are. I think the ones that aren't famous like Scientology are far more dangerous cos they have true psychopaths at the head. People who would eat LRon Hubbard and Deepak Chopra for breakfast.
