- Jaguar XK8 project this week:
The latest instalment on my Jaguar XK8 series.
Well i finally get the chance to tackle that pesky rust on the bottom of my A pillars.
While i am in there i also get to grips with my original bodge i did with the silicone when i hastily put the car back together when i first bought it, i cannot believe that silicone held up for over a year!! So lets see if we can kill 2 birds with one stone, sort he water leak and fix the rust, wish me luck :-)
Good call this one .I have same problem on my xk 8 .26 yr old compressed rubber seals . Tried all sorts to rectify but to no avail .fortunately it's garaged . Will try this method . Great to share thanks .
Hi Richard, glad you liked it buddy. Another trick you can do is to cut a small slot in the original door rubber and then insert another piece of rubber into that to bulk it out a bit, that also works well 👍
Very useful video thank you! Andy
Hi Andrew. I'm glad you found the video useful. Good luck with yours if you need to do it 👍
My xk has rusted through at the bottom near the screen . Your vid is very useful , thanks. Ill have to have th3 screen out to fix mine😡
Hi buddy, glad the video has been able to help you out. Good luck with your repair work 👍
Great job. Good to see you again on the xk. I’m going to do a diff oil change next on my xkr which is the last big job to do. Wish me luck 😂
Hi Steven, it was good to be back on it buddy. Good luck with your diff oil change, are you going in from underneath or cutting out a hatch in your boot as John did on his channel to the garage?
@@projectsinthebarn Going underneath. Johns way frightened the the hell out of me. 😂😂
@@stevenslight2607 😃 😊 😃
Nice steady job great idea with the wall plugs, saved a fortune 👍well done.
Hi Robert, I appreciate your positive comments buddy, the plugs worked really well and means the £100 or so I saved can go towards something else for the old girl 😃
Well done, good job. It encourages the rest of us to crack on. Next phases in planning here.
Fab, keep me updated with your own project then buddy 👍
Well done my Son.xx😘
Cheers mother 👍
Great outcome on the Jag👌
Cheers buddy 👍
Hi, nice work, I had the water problem with my 1996 XK8, luckily no rust issues, I think it was the A pilar rubber - as the water goes down into a tube, then should reappear near the door hinge, however the tube was broken so the water would enter the car - think it may have been caused by previous owner trying to open the door with it frozen to the car and ripped the rubber - the car then suffered a major problem and and been sold… so not sure if it was fixed!
Silver lining - now have a newer XK8.
Great job keep up and great videos ..
Hi John, it does seem to be a common issue, though like me, they aren't aware as they are mostly garaged all year until they get left out in the rain for a period of time.
The newer XK's are beautiful, I have been looking at them myself over the last few months 😃
I'm about to market raw plugs as Jaguar XK8 window trim locking nuts, only £4.00 a piece (cheapest on the market) LOL. Very in depth video and a good result buddy.
You would make a killing mate 😃 glad you liked the video buddy 👍
I'll catch up with your XK8 videos as I have a 1997 model. One question though ...... after I watched this video I watched the first one from a year ago when you first acquired the car and the door seals are not fitted and I can see that there are no plastic plugs in the fixing holes. Surely this means that you must have refitted the seals with just the white mastic? I don't understand why you seem so surprised about the lack of proper fittings and hence the ingress of rain water?
Richard
Hi Richard, yes I did fit it up there with the silicone, I was having a joke at my self buddy. My intentions were to only put the car together to see what's what, get an MOT and then restore over the winter. That never happened, so I was more surprised that it lasted over a year as it was only ever a temporary fix!
Glad to have you along buddy, and I appreciate you getting in touch 👍
Cheers, Simon.
@@projectsinthebarn Ah ..... it all makes sense now. Thanks Simon. 😉
I've done a lot of work on my XK8 over last 23 years. The trickiest jobs were the front wheel bearings, the cam chain tensioners, and the diff and gearbox fluid changes but all were doable. I'm looking forward to catching up with your work and expanding my knowledge. 👍
@Richard Sutton hi again Richard, that's a lot of work you have done on the old girl and it's great to see other owners getting the spanners out and keeping them in good order. I look forward to chatting with you again and sharing .ore videos when I get to play with my XK8 again 👍
