9:36. Nobody instructed or mentioned it, but that's where you can tell the driver knows what's up--a touch of side-to-side steering action to search for grip. Well done driver.
Yup, one thing about TFLoffroad it that it’s often amateur drivers, which isn’t a bad thing but it’s pretty apparent a lot of the time haha
@@CA11100 Like the recent Blazer vs Explorer budget comparison by some TFL new guy who looks like Stingray from Cobra Kai. He clearly didn't know how to off-road with a manual transmission.
@@plus790 yup! It’s frustrating when they bring those guys who don’t know all the feature or how to use them or just how to off-road general to make a comparison. They don’t have the skill or knowledge to make a proper comparison
I can’t wait to see the Ineos Grenadier take on this course!
That would be a great video. Especially with all three lockers engaged. The official videos don’t really show the Grenadiers capabilities..
That would be awesome
Very cool! Chris and the FJ did awesome! I think he could do that hard line you vetoed. 😅
I agree!! Haha
When you've owned an FJ for years, nothing offroad is really to hard.
11+ years over here 👋
So impressive! Would love to see an LR3 take on Tumbleweed...
Damn I did not think those little FJ cruisers could do so good! That's freaking impressive looks fun as hell too 💯💪👍👍
Great driving
These are awesome and great job on the course! They were definitely ahead of their time when they came out. When these first came out I thought they looked like a space bubble. I wanted to see an FJ based off the 79 platform. But they’ve really grown on me now that we can’t get them. Lol. They are pretty badass.
I really miss my '08 FJC that was this same color combo (Sandstorm w/White roof). Purchased used in 2010 with ~12k miles on it well before the popularity happened. Bilstein 6112/5160 should have been the factory suspension to begin with! One weekend I'm driving down 50mi of very rough National Seashore, the next weekend I'm in convoy with some Porsches on an interstate road trip (gas was a LOT cheaper, lol). Without a doubt the most versatile-performing vehicle I've ever owned. Was getting close to 194k miles when a nice lady turned left in front of me in 2019 on the way home from work. Would have kept that beast forever. And I just wasn't willing to pay the amounts of $$$ being asked for on low(ish) mileage examples now.
@Toasty Honestly, after the debut of the FJC I thought Toyota should have done a round headlight retro 4-door to mimic the FJ55 based on the 4Runner.
the new electric FJ is going to look like modern FJ and FJ40 had a baby.@@0kn0wwhat
When someone shows up with a high lift jack, you should make them use it to show you how THEY make it work........ or not.
Still in love with my supercharged ‘07 FJ. Great video!
I'm shocked with those tires you killed at course that truck is truly awesome
Just bought an FJ last week it’s a little quirky but I love it has such a nice ride.
FJs are amazing me an my wife have owned 2 and never disappointed thank you for this vid amazing vehicle can't beat them
That was too easy and only on 33s?
I agree about those side-steps! Saved a rocker panel on my Xterra. Can’t wait for proper rocksliders!
FJ Cruiser = Like a Jeep but actually Works!!!
NICE!
I love my 2 Door Wrangler, but my 1st choice was a Toyota FJ. I wish I could have found one for a decent price. Those things are gold!
Yeah, but you have the better off-road vehicle, and a better platform for building.
It's funny, I got my 4Runner because I couldn't afford a Wrangler lol.
The resale value is high on these in my area.
I bought my FJ because the one you guys owned. It’s the one rig that I miss the most on your channel. I guess I copy you guys too much. I have had the Treg, FJ, Gladiator and the Bronco Sas. Have to say though I love the FJ the most.
@Toasty no I don’t have the bronco anymore. Yes I had the sway bar disconnect but the reason I got rid of was the quality. The top was really bad, many materials were not made very bad.
Pretty sure that was best I have seen on this course.
crushed it, this video really makes me miss my FJ. I would love to see some content with similarly modified a GX460, I know you all have done some content with stock GX's, but those bumpers really limit it potential.
Miss my FJ so much! They are like big 4 wheelers. With the snow here in Utah and the desert it never even came close to getting stuck.
That ATRAC is incredible in the FJ. Didn't struggle at all! This is about the worst I'll do with mine on trails.
We needed a slo-mo replay of that one crossing!
She owns a fj and he owns a 4runner, match made in heaven
One of the most reliable vehicle you can buy!
Own a 2014 I bought a brand new tan FJ cruiser. Still have less than 90,000 miles on it. I live down in Louisiana, so I can also attest to the fact that the FJ cruiser can damn near swim as well. They are amazing vehicles.
I've taken my 07 FJ swimming 😂 took on 4.5ft of water on a really nasty track! Only thing thar happened is my starter was full of grime
I love my FJ Cruiser never let's me down
I have a 2007. It has 195,000 miles on it and still runs like a new one. I had to put a water pump on it and the previous owner put an alternator on it. It has done off road things better than my expectations and they were pretty high. It's my daily driver and it rides great and has more power than you'd think. It's been a great ride and I'm glad to see how it would do on your course, if slightly modified. Great video guys. Thanks
In another 5,000 miles you'll have successfully broken in your FJ. They say 200k miles is the break in period for a Toyota 6 cylinder naturally aspirated engine. So if you're looking for a Toyota and it has less than 200k miles its like a brand new vehicle waiting for you to take it through its paces. If your Toyota has over 200,000 miles then that vehicle is waiting for you to put it to work.
@@breeze787 I'm finding that to be true it has about 202,000 now. It's the first Toyota I've owned and I can't hardly believe that it doesn't use or leak a drop of oil with that many miles. It has been an amazing vehicle.
@@dalejones4322 Give him a treat. Have the Auto Salon give him/her the full treatment. I do mine about every 2 years and on special occasions like reaching 200k that's a no brainer.
@@breeze787 that's a great idea
Fj. The king ❤
111000miles FJ with just Icon 2.5s and relatively cheap Falken Wildpeak running at 25psi made it look like nothing. What have you done Chris? Now these FJs will get even more expensive..!!!😠😠
Awesome job for the FJ TOYOTA
That was awesome!
Wow, very impressive. Glad I put the Falken wildpeak on my 4Runner.
Tommy had to engage his traction control on the way down the hill.
Yeah he might want to get a shoe lift and new treads.
@@frshunter An upgrade to M/T is definitely recommended.
That cruiser is a beast
Nice job to both of you !
Great video guys! I’ve been looking into Ford Mavericks with the FX4 package and hopefully should be getting one soon. I’d love to see y’all test one on Andre’s pit!
That mavrick is really a car. It has a tiny bed, but that is about all the truck that thing is. And if you are in the market for a car/truck or ute as the are know over seas. The santa cruse if far better. And made in America. Unlike the Mexican mavrick.
FJ making it look easy props to Tommy and Chris. Well done.
The Legendarily FJ Cruiser 👍🏻
Almost laid mine over today. A winch rescue saved my butt
I thought it was the early 07's with the rear diff issues.
Hey Tommy, do you know that's the same music background on the other RUclips channel for Teslacam videos?
I sold my 2006 FJ for a 2013 Taco a year ago - no regrets. Liked the FJ but need to be able to sleep/ camp inside my vehicle, FJ was too short
TFL, been watching you guys for a while now and would love to come out and test my truck on your trail. I just moved to Denver for a new job after my military service and would love to meet you guys.
Please email us ask@tfltruck.com
Just show's how a small lift and good tire's make's a huge difference.
Love my FJ!
Guess I know what’s getting the cover of my next trail guide… unfortunately we broke the FJ 😂
Ive known guys with fj cruises but for some reason ours turn so much sharper then all the ones I've seen. We can do a single lane u-turn back to a single lane return easy. That turn this fj did at 4:03 would have turned easy first try for ours. Really dont know if theres some mod done to it to do that? Was already lifted when we bought.
There is a reason why you can still buy an fj brand new these days in different parts of the world , abeit upgraded from the old spec .
Nice rig. Very capable!
At 4:18 it almost turned into Tommy's Folly
I want to get my rig there! It would be a slow drive from Idaho, which could be fun in it’s own right :-)
I love FJs. I might have to upgrade from my Cherokee trailhawk one day.
On that note, I would love to see a modified cherokee Trailhawk attempt this course.
One vehicle I still wish I would've owned!
Still can!
Tires make this so much of a difference in mud
THE REAR WINDOW OPENS 🤯
They need to bring FJ back! This coming from a Jeep guy.
Modern offroaders suck with plastic junk this is a great offroader and great driver
A vast majority of the exterior is plastic on the FJ 😂
You all need a board and a rating on each obstical like Top Gear.
That was impressively boring, in the best way possible :D cheers to Chris and the FJ!
What is the tire size, the exact tire size? Spacers?
“Almost Rolled It!”?? Did I miss that part?
Do you guys still have an FJ?
Made it look easy
Because it was. Not much more one can say right? lol
It’s a dryer course today.
Are you guys not allowed to ride with them anymore?? I liked it when the two of you were in there interviewing them and such
He mentions toward the end of the video that he's alone that day, he had to film.
FJ…. It’s like a Jeep, but it actually works!!!!
Invest in some tumble weed radios
When I was a kid my dad surprisingly took his 2WD F150 off road, meaning NO ROADS then we got out the chain saws, cut wood and loaded it down. That was a time when people that bought pickup trucks actually needed them. I wonder the last time any RAM Power Wagon was loaded down with as much wood as it could carry? 1984? Never? "Rock sliders"? tell me you have a truck but will never actually use it.
Like father like son. Their voices just don't project. Oh well.
@TFLofftoad please take a 5.7 tundra just for fun please
I regret selling mine every day
Falken Tires rules
The only thing my fiance ever let me borrow was debt and trust issues.
i wonder how this course is when it snows
It would be more difficult because there would be less traction in the snow.
Falkens some worst tires I have owned Falken Sincera 195 65 15. No grip, short life ok they are round though
It seems like Tommy is getting bored with the trail.... or atleast the first couple of portions.
FJ Cruiser with 111K miles, a good driver, and a light mod...is almost like cheating. 8-)
articulation hehe
Course was pretty dry. Didn't do the hard side.
Suicide door windows... talk to me!
I believe they are out of production. They were expensive and used plastic windows. For me the plastic windows was a deal breaker. I really wish Toyota hadn't dropped the ball on the FJ's windows. It is one of the few things that truly bothers me about mine. The suicide doors and the rear sides should have had van style electric windows.
There is a guy on YT who is trying to put into production a set of roll down windows for the FJ. His videos make it look awesome. But I'm guessing it is going to be cost prohibitive for most FJ owners.
Imagine putting a hummer h1 on that trail
Ended badly?
This is like a wrangler only better. Better reliability, better durability, better build quality and better resale value.
Yawn...
Why did they quit making it then dummy
@@jvert3224 Did they? Because you can still buy a brand new 2022 FJ Cruiser outside of the US. These are still sold in many different global markets (Caribbean, South America, Africa, Asia). Production for the FJ is only now ending in 2022, this was announced by Toyota a few weeks ago.
The reason these have such high resale value is because Toyota hardly sold any of these when they were new because hardly anyone wanted them after the first year. Look up the sales figures, the Wrangler destroyed this thing every year that it was in production.
It's a fact that wranglers have the best resale value, I'd go back to do more research. Also, my buddy bought a tacoma a year after I bought my wrangler. Since then he's had a full transmission swap plus alternator, battery and a shock. I've had zero issues in my wrangler its been four years and lots of off road miles later, lots of redline rpm. Plus the interior in his tacoma looks like an economy jet from the 80's I would call that anything except build quality.
The 2 liter in my jeep also makes more power than his 4.0.
Tommy, you gotta invite me up there to run my Titan Swapped Nissan Xterra through the course! Check it out on my channel.
Did Toyota discontinue this vehicle because it was popular?
Era was minded more towards MPG. OR fun came too late to appreciate and keep this thing in production.
It was because of the short wheelbase. The FJ is classified as a light duty truck in the US under CAFE regulations. It is much easier for manufacturers to meet CAFE requirements with larger vehicles because the requirements take into account a vehicle's footprint. A vehicle having a smaller footprint is required to get much better fuel mileage than a larger vehicle. This is why auto manufacturers have abandoned sedans, station wagons, and small short wheelbase pickups and market much larger vehicles such as full size crew cab pickups and long SUVs. The regular cab short bed Tacoma also fell victim to CAFE.
Other than the first year, this thing never sold in great numbers. Jeep outsold it two or three to one every year of its production. People blame CAFE, but I don't think this was any worse than the same year 4Runner or Tacoma. I think Toyota realized that the sales numbers didn't justify having this vehicle in the US, especially as it was coming up on an age where it was going to need a redesign.
@@skiptheroad everything you're blaming on cafe, is simply vehicles that didn't sell. How many regular cab pickup trucks did people buy after they they came out with extended and crew cabs? That's what the majority of people wanted. Same thing with sedans, hardly anybody wants small sedans anymore, everybody wants SUVs. Most small SUVs have the same footprint as small sedans, they're just taller.
"Off road" to a Toyota owner means going over any terrain as long as that terrain is nice and flat. 😁
Well Done, FJ, you are now a "HONORARY" JEEP RUBICON!
GOOOOOO JEEP!
I have a 07 with 210,000 miles lifted 3inchs with 35s. I'll take a 15 year old fj over any offroader built today. These are way better then jeeps. The new branco is trash compared to the fj, if you can even buy one. Chevy never had a real offroader. Maybe the hummer but you don't see many of them left. Most have been recycled. This platform is the one they take where reliability is measured in life or death. The artic or Sahara. You for sure will not see a ford, chevy , or dodge in that environment.
Wtf did I just watch.
Is this a pisstake or something?
nice show but I don't watch to see an old vehicle , there's lots of channels for that
🤣🤣 20 to 25 psi is not aired down
Depends on the tire sidewall. You have to air down more on a load range “E” tire than a load range “D” or “C”.
@@brianphillips8228 but still 25-20 is still high lol
@@cameronhoover7561 Aye man not all of us have bead locks, we all can’t air down to 5-7 PSI
@@mysticcrazy3 15psi is best with no bead lock !!
I run 12 psi in my S10 Zr2's bfg's at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Load range C on the stock wheels. Never lost a bead but then again the sand is very forgiving.
That poor gutless V6 with even more weight to drag around.
When he said she’s definitely on board you know she was definitely not on board but he did it anyways 😂
