You should attach a small wake build to the boat. It would make it look more realistic and it would make it look like it’s actually in the water and gliding through it instead of on top. Great vid(:
@@CheeseyStudiosit’s a train so you could add a train car to the front and back of the boat with a wake. Also yes try caster wheels. You should be able to make them with the little plane landing gear pieces on the bottoms of the 2x2 turntable plates.
to stop the boat from derailing, you could put two train bogeys instead of just one, and make it so it can flex and turn so the whole assembly has more stability while turning. You could lock the two boggeys at the perfect angle to really make it underailable but it might be overkill and difficult to build.
I like the gentle rumble it has, you can't always hear it because of you talking and the music but it sneaks it's way into the video at a few points, kind of gives it that extra ship flair since they like to creak and groan and such, it's a nice unintended detail, intentionally designed details wise however the boat looks really neat so far, it's also way bigger than I was expecting :p
I love the boat design! Not sure how to describe it, but I just want to hold it in my hands Love this series and can't wait for when the build is fully finished:)
There's a ball wheel that I thought of from the old Mindstorms EV3 bots that I remember using in high school. Parts 92911 and 99948. It's pretty smooth with a bit of weight, and it has that omnidirectional rotation you're looking for. Not sure how well it rolls on tiles, but may be worth a look if you're still wanting to get the boat to roll further over the water.
When I saw the boat move I instantly thought it needs a wheel on the water. I think the problem you had was it kinda fixed the rotation of the left side of the boat, so it caused it to turn to the left, and derailed. However, this can be solved I think by using a wheel which can freely rotate, like on a shopping cart.
Also, wouldn't it be possible to add a smaller cart on the back and have just a pin on top of it that is just loosely attached to the underneath of the boat, so that it provides a bit more stability? Maybe with just a loose guide, so it can track the curve
This is looking really great already! I've heard that just running the motor enough cleans the tracks mostly, but maybe if they're too rusty you have to do them manually. Keep up the great work! :D
Yesss love that this series is back! Honestly probably your most anticipated video in a while for me, idk why i just love seeing you do progress on this thing. Glad to hear you're a fan of edge of bricks too! Hope you keep working on this 😊
I'm hoping I'll have more time to commit to it now with a but of a lull in LAN reviews. I'd like to finish the boat and a good chunk of the terrain before the year is out!
The distance from the connection to the power definitely affects the speed. I am also into model trains and there is an observable speed difference when the trains are on the other side of the track from the jumpers.
I like videos like this, there is no building shown, you are just talking to us ans honestly it is really relaxing to watch this kind of videos. btw that ship looks absolutely amazing!
I'm shocked to hear that there isn't a big scene for lego boat MOCs, that's been the one thing that I've actually wanted to dive into myself. Though I think I'm too ambitious for my own good with my ideas. But amazing work on the build, that boat looks quite impressive. Definitely getting the pirate fan in me itching to build a proper ship.
Like, it's possible I'm looking in the wrong places for boats, but even at Brickworld the boat representation is pretty small. I think it would be a great thing for you to get in on, as there's so much untapped potential in the category! Compare that to say Star Wars, where everything has been tried at this point. I feel like you could make some proper waves (ha, get it) in the boat scene.
It's nice to just turn the camera on and yack some times. Pressure is low, and feels nice for me too, so glad you all enjoy the change of pace as well :D
More like sheer dumb luck LOL - but hey, I'll take it! I'm really hoping I can make the boat quite tall to stand up against the castle. Big custom sails and fun stuff. With the hull being the hardest part, I think the rest of the ship building will be quite enjoyable :D
Nice, I love how it’s coming along so far! Now that you’re done with iron builder, it’d be neat to see if and how you could incorporate 100 Minecraft tridents into this lol. There’s so many interesting ways they were used in the competition by both of you!
I legit consider making the boat as an Iron Builder build xD I just could never think of how to realistically incorporate it sadly, but that doesn't mean it won't happen now!
The boat looks fantastic! Can't wait to see more of this model! Also I have an idea. Perhaps you could find a way to angle to wheels so they match the curve of the circle instead of driving off 🤔
One of my favourite Lego things is when 'automated' systems like the boat runs or lights turn on and off, it really brings the magic of imagination to life. I can remember moving a toy boat around a castle just like this but in your MOC (or would it be YOC?) it's actually alive. Have you got any more plans for features like this such as such as wavy flags or chattering monkeys?
If the boat is that huge, I can't imagine how big that castle is going to be XD XD By the way, will you put more blue bricks and water tiles above the black edge of your MOC? I think that is going to give more stability to the boat while running, and it will strenght the sensation the boat is sailing the sea. About the rails, those are real electricity-conducting metal, right? You can clean with either DW40 or isopropilic alcohol, especially the last one is good for cleaning electronic components n_n Until now, the sea and the terrain look gorgeous!
Have you thought about adding a water circle that rotates together with the ship? It would cover the tracks which could make the build look better. Also you could attach some seaguls on a transparent pole to this rotating water circle what would be a neat feature
I'm glad it's at least sometimes working! I'm feeling more confident than I did a few days ago, that's for sure. It was touch and go for awhile, and I was considering using RC motors instead.
Did you consider building an outer water strip that would rotate with the boat? It would cover the tracks, and probably make it more stable, as it would have more points of rail contact Also, you could then add ripples to it and other fun things, dolpins maybe? Great build, I love what you're doing :D
If the platform was hollow, you could run a string from the train car to a central pillar so that it couldn’t stray outward. Putting a roller on the outer edge might achieve the same effect, though you’d have to reinforce the facade of the base
i love this project!! the boats shape is actualy really chubby and cute lol XD you've actualy helped inspire me to make a lego project that i will need more sand green bricks for!! your up with there with brickcrafts
Maybe you could make a circle turning around the center, with 4 axles on each corner. The boat would be on 1 of them, avoiding crash and problemes ? (Like a carrousel with the island on the center) It could also make the rails less visible
maybe you could add a smaller set of train wheels infront of the electric cart to support it in the front? it does seem a little front heavy. Basically something on an axel so its flexible enough to follow the tracks without being part of the driving cart.
If you wanted to try wheels again to help with derailing I’d try putting them on turntables so they’re not stuck going straight (like on a desk chair or shopping cart).
The boat looks awesome!I was actually thinking of making a similar boat and I was wondering if you could share the links for the inspiration or even just show off some of the interior. Excited for the next update.
Have you thought of using a turntable piece and the wheels that are used for the forward most wheels on the front of most if not all large Lego airplanes? Might not be not strong enough though for the completed weight of the boat
You could raise the height of the outer black trim to be even with the inner water level. That would give it enough potential weight support and stability on both sides.
Think the boat could do with being lowered like 2-3 studs. Right now it kinda looks like it’s skating across the water’s surface rather than actually being IN the water so to speak. Also maybe adding some trans clear and trans light blue tiles around the front end of the boat and also trailing off the rear to give the impression of a wake could make it look a little more natural?
What’s the underside of that boat look like? Is there any Technic to maybe help support the weight of the boat for the future additions? Love this build so far, and I’d hate for that cool boat to have issues in the future.
It's all Technic underneath, yeah. I've been testing it by putting weighted things on top, and performance has actually been better with the increased friction to the track!
I know it would be a lot more work but if you really want to make the boat looks like it's ON the water rather than just up next to it, you could add a little bit of water on the outside of the ring on the other side of the boat, enclose it on both sides basically
could it be that the wheels probably derailed the boad due to the angle the two wheels had (it is possible to use wheel to strongly steer something toward a curve, the angle one needs between the wheels though is to be taken in consideration, if ya have both wheels axis aiming toward the middle of the construction it shouldn't derail i think) otherwise you could use a ball joint or those balls in the lego ninjago, without having the problem of not aiming toward the outside they should be able to sustain weight while also not aiming the boat away from the center... i think putting something more to sustain the boat aside the rails is a good idea not only to reduce stress on the rails but also to make it so that the boat has something more than the cart to keep it on the rails
Not sure if this is a good fix for the train rails, but a lot of metal products come shipped with an oil coating that helps prevent oxidation, wonder if thats possible on the electric rails.

I’m sure you’ve thought of this already, but why not use an armature system with a counterweight to push the boat around the track instead of using powered rails?
