I think a big alternative (not a sling but a great desk caddy/pouch) is the evergoods cap2. Even has a similar floating shelf that moves to accommodate larger items. Worth a look if you’re into this form factor.
I've had my eye on the CAP2 also, but one negative for me is the footprint, i.e. how much space it takes up on the desk when open, because the top rests on the desk, essentially doubling the footprint when open. This Alpaka doesn't have that "problem", since the top folds over and hangs vertically.
I hear that. I'm interested in the alpaca. I will say the quality of the cap2 (just got the new griffin with the wax canvas) is just amazing. I don't mind the footprint when I really just love everything about it. But you're right I’ll hold final opinions til I get my hands on this Alpaca one@@NolanOfConsequence
I purchased this on their kickstarter and I am so happy to see a review. I think I will be quite happy with it. I just recently brought Alpaka’s element max sling and absolutely love it. That strap that comes with it also looks so much more comfortable then the first one you showed. Cannot wait for it to get here!! Awesome video!!
Thank you for the video Aaron - I backed it early, im planning to use it with my sony xm5, so pretty spot on for me. I look at this as a desk caddy FIRST...the sling component is a way of carrying it from one desk to another - in that perspective this thing makes a lot more sense.
good looks! I think it's a desk caddy first as well, but I love it as a tech pouch too - easy to toss in my backpack and isn't too bulky. Sling-mode I'm still on the fence about
So Ahron, what is the best tech pouch /desk caddy for headphones? I'm also gonna get my sony xm5 soon and would want to skip that HUGE case it comes with and see how it works with my other edc stuff. Also, if there backpacks and slings on that list to fit those hearbuds - would be great to hear about (no pun intended)
This is the only one over ever tested ! Actually Alpaka used to make a Headphone case that is now discontinued which I still use to this day - I think you can find some from retail stores online but not sure where
Excellent video Aaron. I have the same headphones and have not found one travel case (headphones and tech-no sling) to take in my backpack. This may work. Any other suggestions?? Headphone case? David
That dual access to the "wires pouch" is quite genius. It's just like the Evergoods Civic 2L Access pouch, which I think I would have added to the recommended section at the end. In the end, it's quite bulky for me and I prefer to keep my headphones in a separate, dedicated hard case, with a much smaller pouch for smaller things. Great video as always.
@@Nomads.Nation Oh, that makes a lot of sense.... also, still waiting for that mega review of comparing the various packing cubes out there, along with the torture tests you're known for!
I bought this through their Kickstarter and I am really impressed with this tech pouch. In fact I am building my personal travel item around this pouch. It holds the Sennheiser Momentum 4's perfectly and all my cables and international power adapters. I did have the same opinion about the handle being a little over built but with battery packs and ANC headphones the weight of the pouch is up there, so maybe it is necessary.
Really helpful video. Planning to get one with aer city pack pro backpack. Wanna check if this pouch fit a logitech mx master 3s, typical rectangular brick laptop charger and sony wh1000xm4 headphone with 2 portable charger and some charging cables? Thanks in advance!
Nice video. I've been looking for a pouch and I've came to the conclusion to choose between alpaka's vertex or elements tech case (i dont really care about the sling aspect), also thought about the modern dayfarer but its too slim for my mouse (afraid it gets scratched) and pc + phone charger, etc. But I like the desk caddy thing. which one would you go for?
I prefer the Desk Caddy but it’s tighter and it perfectly fits my gear (such as my Magic Mouse). If you have a bulkier mouse and a bit more gear then I think Alpaka might be a better fit
Hey Aaron! Not sure if you have one of these handy or not, I've been trying to figure out if this bag can hold a 9" PGYtech tripod I use for my Ace Pro action Cam. If so, I'm buying it. It seems it can, based on the dimensions listed on the site but just wasn't sure!
I am very interested in the design and function of Alpaka's new pouch. However, one thing that concerns me is that wrinkle line appear when the front is folded. In your opinion, which of the two materials is more prone to wrinkle line at the folds? And do you think there is no need to worry that when folded repeatedly over a long period of time, the wrinkle line will become thicker and become unsightly or damaged?
This is a pretty innovative desk caddy/sling hybrid, good on Alpaka. Bought myself a Metro Sling and Tech Case just yesterday, would be super keen to see your reviews on those.
@Nomads.Nation I'm leaning towards the AER I just wonder if space-wise is there much difference with the tomtoc, love the organization of the aer but I think the tomtoc is a bit bigger

This is almost perfect. Agreed on the capacity being just a bit small, I would love to see a version that fits a Steam Deck or the XM5s comfortably that would be a dream.
it being small is a great thing cuz bulky tech pouches suck, BUT, an extra .5 liters would have made the pouch fit a few more crucial tech products (but then again, that's always the case right, so Alpaka had to draw the line somewhere)
Love your reviews, all of em even if im not in need of a bag. But may i add a suggestion, make a cardboard cutout of a 14” and 16” laptops and maybe a Switch dimension too, that way you can 100% be sure is the advertised stuff can fix, ideally if you had an actual tech even if it’s completely broken. There’s so many backpacks that advertise 16” compartment but they are super snug while others can actually fix 17” Windows laptops (since 16” windows is usually bit bigger that standard 16”macbook)
@@Nomads.Nation 14 and 16 inch MBP (the new m1/2) are definitely a new standard for sizing. This is a total rip-off of the Evergoods CAP2. With the addition of the magnets on the flap and the sling mode. Alpaka makes great products and I recently purchased a ton of their Hub ecosystem mods and even their Elements backpack in Multi-cam. But that doesn't still stop this from being a rip-off.
thanks for your comment! so you are 100% certain that Evergoods invented the opening style used in the CAP2? Because many people have told me that Evergoods ripped off old camera bags from the 80s that have been using that exact design for decades.
@@Nomads.Nation I'm not aware of bags going back to the 80s. Wouldn't even know the brands or where to find them. However, the lid with a mesh pocket that can also be accessed once the lid is open, the movable divider, the internal organization pockets, almost all of these design elements are a rip-off. The CAP2 lid looks more elegant the way it opens and rests on the table as a desk caddy in my opinion. I just got mine delivered yesterday.

totally! We only recommend bags we've reviewed and I hadn't reviewed the CAP2 at this point, but it's an easy alternative rec now that I have
I love my pouch so much but the zippers are so freaking sturdy
sturdy = durable, so not always a bag thing
Hi, I can confirm that Axoflux is pronounced 'Axe-o-flux', not 'Air-o-flux'. One of the Alpaka founders confirmed this.
yea that was an accident on my part, def pronounced 'Axe-o-flux',
The closest thing I’ve seen to a true “man purse”. Not that there is anything wrong with that! Sling strap, purse strap? 😂👍
its the best damn man purse I've ever reviewed
🎉🎉🎉😂🎉🎉@@Nomads.Nation
At 60$ that could be a game changer
solid price for sure, gotta love Kickstarter
Evergoods: 👀
Definitely inspired by, but no way Evergoods came up with the concept otherwise this would be a lawsuit waiting to happen
@@Nomads.Nation yeah i mean everyone is copying from everyone at this point 😆
@@pao_banaag what's the line? Good artists copy, great artists steal? lol
Not a review, a paid for advertisement. Call it what it is.
Thanks for your comment! Alpaka didn’t pay me anything though, I just really like the pouch. Any cons that I didn’t mention you think I missed?
That buckle is big and bulky
agreed, but not a deal breaker for me
This is a total rip-off of the Evergoods CAP2.
@@paraagshah4153 glad you like it :)
bro how you pack almost every bag you show is nauseating, truly i mean it as an advice. put more effort. Look up what EDC is for god sake lol and get the stuff that people usually have and have multiple scenarios.
appreciate the... advice 😂 but I will say if you look at the 200+ comments in this video you are the only one complaining about it lol
@ come on man I love your content. Clearly I’m subscribed. And I follow your bag journey. We both know most people don’t care to comment, so me being the only is not surprising and also not telling at all. If you don’t see it as valid then you don’t. No offense was intended.
You know those satisfying videos or 💩 fits perfectly and is wholesome? That could be achieved in your videos. Not necessary of course but ugh so close broseph.
lol at any rate, good luck man, and I’m gonna stay subscribed but I think it will take you to the next level considering what I said.
