    I feed flakes in the morning, a small pinch that I release under the surface from between my fingers. Frozen at night - thawed in a small cup of tank water, and with a few drops of Selcon added, a mix of mysis, cyclopeez, reef frenzy and sometimes other varieties as available. Sounds like a lot, but I pre-cut cubes into 6 segments and keep a small bag frozen for convenience. One segment of each of 3-4 different types keeps the quantity controlled and it disappears quickly! Always put the return pump on feed mode. I target-feed in The Junkyard so the Aurora gobies get a chance to grab some close to their home. I don’t rinse because I find the LPS tend to put out their feeders and I think it’s a response to the “juice” that’s in the frozen food. No proof of course, just a gut feeling. And I’m sorry about the long comment...🤷‍♀️ 😁 Another excellent video, I’m going to look for oyster eggs.....

    Mine get a daily feed of dried food from an autofeeder in the middle of the day while I am at work and then in evening they get 3 cubes of varied frozen food usually something like mysis, marine mix with algae and krill. I don't go to the bother of rinsing... no way! Just a cup of tank water. Let the cubes thaw in the water and then chuck it in after putting the pumps in feed mode.

    • @PrestigeReef

    Very helpful thanku! I'm getting my first fish this weekend. Goby and shrimp pair. Its my first ever tank (20g) and with everything else I've studied at least 5 years in the planning, I'd not done much on the feeding! Noobs can worry so much about cycling, lighting,flow etc that its easy to forget essential things like feeding. Theres so much to get into your head. Definitely happy it took me so long to get to this point tho, means I've got a much better idea of how things go.

    I was just thawing the mysis in a little bit of tank water and using a syrine to try and get only the shrimp and as little water as possible then spot feed the fish/coral with it.

  • @TheBritishMelonn
    @TheBritishMelonn 5 лет назад

    I used to use just dried mysis and blood worm till I decided to switch back to frozen now that I’ve upgraded my tank.
    Now days I use frozen, new life spectrum pellet, rarely dried for my goby when he doesn’t get enough, and silver sides for my eel and well for my fish to sometimes play with or to fill a hole. I haven’t noticed any change in health, feeding habits, or aggression. But all this in hopes that they’re becoming healthier. But otherwise I’m hoping that the fatty acids will help some of my coral with extra growth along with feeding reef roids.

    i have gone through a lot of fish over the years but now have managed to have 13 small/medium fish in a 100 gallon sps tank. I keep the stocking low becuase dont have to keep running after the tank to keep water quality up. dont like a busy tank, I find when fish have more room they just cruise around the tank chilled out not having to bump into each other and cuts down on bullying to 100%. I dont get temped by the latest new fish my store gets in I have learned from my mistakes and alot of stuff I get is usually on line you just buy what you need no more no less. And also all my fish eat flake which I feed 2 to 3 times per week and frozen every other day one feeding per day, fish are not overweight but are not skinny also. Kept away from fish the need a few feeding per day, I decided years ago do I want to have a coral tank with few fish or a fish tank with few corals. To have sucess wihin the hobby I believe you cant have a fish tank and a coral tank...well you can but do you want every weekend doing water changes its great at the start but after 5 years you want something that takes a hour every month , I think alot of people start into this hobby buying shed loads of corals and shed lots of fish and after chasing poor water quality for months go back to keeping fresh water. I do believe less is more and remember shops are a business and you say one more fish until you have a tank full of fish. happy reef keeping LESS IS MORE. create a ZEN tank.

    My issue with frozen and it’s a big one, is the level of phosphate it contains, I tested the main brands, Dutch select to name one, defrosted a cube in 200ml of tank water, did a phosphate test on straight tank water and the water from the jug with 200ml of tank water and the defrosted brine shrimp cube and the brine shrimp water had phosphate levels off the chart, well over 2ppm, that adding to the water twice a day, no thanks.. I hear you say.. strain the frozen food, made minimal difference, tried that too put the strained shrimp into another 200ml of tank water and tested, same result, do a phosphate test on the defrosted foods you’ll be gobsmacked, so what frozen doesn’t contain phosphate is my question..?

    I have yet to find a seasoned reefer who agrees on anything about feeding.

    When he said it is Carnivore? Herbivores? Or pain in the ass. At that point i can't handle it anymore.

      I would remove the clown which isnt part of the pair, multiple clowns only really work with 10+ fish

      Trigger fish can be very aggressive so it’s not unheard of for them to kill other fish. It all depends what type you got

    Don’t rinse the food. Your coral needs that to thrive!
