I've returned to a life of sin (adultery and idolatry) several times over the past 25 years... backsliding to the MAX. 5 months ago, God got a hold of me, and I finally repented and am walking in a whole new direction... but I'm still having fears and doubts, and I am beside myself with terrible guilt and shame. I have good hours during the day, and bad hours... just trying to make it a day at a time. I'm relying on meditating on scripture also to help carry me through. I watched this video, and I watched the video "Are you a backslider"... It was very good to be reminded of the wonderful parables you quoted in this video... and how God and heaven rejoice when 1 sinner repents. Thank you for this reminder... it really helps to balance out scriptures like Hebrews 6, and especially 2 Peter 2:20. Pray for me, as it is very hard for me to fully embrace God's forgiveness!

I would hear replayed, Lord we casted out demons in Your Name, but He didn't know them. I kept thinking that will happen to me when I stand before Christ. When you stand before God on judgement day and He asks you " why are you deserving of entering the kingdom of heaven?"... Be sure to answer something along the lines of "Father God, I am not deserving of entering your Kingdom for any deeds of my own, but from the finished work of Your Son Jesus on the cross. And Your word promises that if I repent and trust in Him for my salvation, and not of my own works, that I will be miraculously and wonderfully saved from my past transgressions." God bless you bro! There’s two ways to read this passage of Matthew 7:23- at least. One, there’s nothing you can do to make God save you. No work, no prayer- nothing. Those who try to justify themselves by the works and the miracles, Jesus doesn’t know them, as they are workers of lawlessness. They thought themselves sanctified because they did miracles and works of God, not realizing that He does those things through people because He loves them. Another way to read it is in relief that you don’t have to do works and miracles to be saved. All He has called for is faith and having that faith changes you to do good works because of that faith, not to earn His favor. He knows not the people who simply do the works, but those who abide in Him and does the Will of His Father who is in heaven. Like the pastor said, ask the Lord to walk with you and He will, showing you what needs to be changed and what the will of the Father is.
As someone who struggles with a habitual sin I relate to that fear. Let me share something that happened to me earlier this year as I think it may help you as well. I had failed, again, like I usually did in that arena. Afterward, as I was praying, I was very depressed and frustrated with myself and basically told God that he should just trade me out for a better Christian who wouldn't fail him as often as I did. Then these words appeared within my mind. "Tell me, if you had a child and they made a mistake would you somehow consider 'trading them out' for a newer model, so to speak?" I don't have children but I still immediately knew the answer. I responded with "No, I could never do that. They are still my child." At which point I received one more sentence. "Neither will God do the same to you." While the words were of great comfort it honestly wasn't till a few hours later as I was replaying the conversation that my brain caught up going "Wait...those words didn't come from me...oh my gosh!" It was all the more shocking as it had been nearly 20 years since God had spoken to me that clearly. I believe God would say much the same to any of his children who doubt their place or his love for them.
I don't even know where to begin. Don't try to stop on your own strength, you'll fail. Trust me! Praying helped, but if I have the feeling to do it, I ask the holy spirit to subdue my body and keep me from fulfilling the lusts of my flesh. And the feeling goes away. Also don't listen to the enemy. It's not just obvious stuff. I caught on to their "bet you can't do this" or "it's not really like that/this". Don't prove them or yourself right. It's a trap! Also, you can't fulfill the lusts of the flesh if your walking in the spirit. That made sense to me after a 21 day fast. It was for another reason I did and afterwards I noticed I didn't desire it anymore. And lastly what are you watching. You need to Not see nude scenes at all. If images in your mind pop up tell it to go away. Take captive of your thoughts. Pray for God to help you see women as a person not an object. They are beautiful made in the image of God. It's a slow process. This will all be in the Lord's strength, not your own. So ask for strength and pray when you feel the urge. GOD always give a way out.
I will tell you that I was addicted to porn and masturbation for many years, and I never thought it would be possible to ever defeat it. Its not something that is easy to overcome, but that is why God sends the Holy Spirit to live inside every believer upon salvation. The Holy Spirit gives us the power and strength to overcome temptations. He gives you the hate for sin, and the desire to please God instead. And everytime I gave in to temptation, I became extremely upset about it. But the more I resisted the temptation when it came and asked the Holy Spirit to remove the desire, the easier it became, and the temptations started to fade. The bible says that the Holy Spirit will always give you a way out. And its true. But it all depends on how much you desire to please God. Yes, there were times I gave in, but everytime I gave in, I was determined by the power of the Holy Spirit to defeat it. And the more I denied those desires, the easier it became. The bible says run from it if you have to. But you cant do it without the Holy Spirit. The flesh is too weak. But if you think its impossible, then you are saying that the devil is more powerful than God, and that lust can never be overcome. And thats a lie from the devil. You must spend time in prayer and the word to develop a relationship, and build a strong foundation. Its essential. The more you do this, the easier it will be to avoid lust. Look, of course we are all going to face temptations, but we should no longer be controlled by it anymore. We have been given the authority. So yes its possible because I did it with the Holy Spirits help. He is the key.

When you stand before God on judgement day and He asks you " why are you deserving of entering the kingdom of heaven?"... Be sure to answer something along the lines of "Father God, I am not deserving of entering your Kingdom for any deeds of my own, but from the finished work of Your Son Jesus on the cross. And Your word promises that if I repent and trust in Him for my salvation, and not of my own works, that I will be miraculously and wonderfully saved from my past transgressions." God bless you bro! There’s two ways to read this passage of Matthew 7:23- at least.
One, there’s nothing you can do to make God save you. No work, no prayer- nothing. Those who try to justify themselves by the works and the miracles, Jesus doesn’t know them, as they are workers of lawlessness. They thought themselves sanctified because they did miracles and works of God, not realizing that He does those things through people because He loves them.
Another way to read it is in relief that you don’t have to do works and miracles to be saved. All He has called for is faith and having that faith changes you to do good works because of that faith, not to earn His favor. He knows not the people who simply do the works, but those who abide in Him and does the Will of His Father who is in heaven.
Like the pastor said, ask the Lord to walk with you and He will, showing you what needs to be changed and what the will of the Father is.

As someone who struggles with a habitual sin I relate to that fear. Let me share something that happened to me earlier this year as I think it may help you as well.
I had failed, again, like I usually did in that arena. Afterward, as I was praying, I was very depressed and frustrated with myself and basically told God that he should just trade me out for a better Christian who wouldn't fail him as often as I did. Then these words appeared within my mind.
"Tell me, if you had a child and they made a mistake would you somehow consider 'trading them out' for a newer model, so to speak?" I don't have children but I still immediately knew the answer. I responded with "No, I could never do that. They are still my child." At which point I received one more sentence. "Neither will God do the same to you."
While the words were of great comfort it honestly wasn't till a few hours later as I was replaying the conversation that my brain caught up going "Wait...those words didn't come from me...oh my gosh!" It was all the more shocking as it had been nearly 20 years since God had spoken to me that clearly. I believe God would say much the same to any of his children who doubt their place or his love for them.
Despite repeated sins do not despair..

I don't even know where to begin. Don't try to stop on your own strength, you'll fail. Trust me! Praying helped, but if I have the feeling to do it, I ask the holy spirit to subdue my body and keep me from fulfilling the lusts of my flesh. And the feeling goes away. Also don't listen to the enemy. It's not just obvious stuff. I caught on to their "bet you can't do this" or "it's not really like that/this". Don't prove them or yourself right. It's a trap! Also, you can't fulfill the lusts of the flesh if your walking in the spirit. That made sense to me after a 21 day fast. It was for another reason I did and afterwards I noticed I didn't desire it anymore. And lastly what are you watching. You need to Not see nude scenes at all. If images in your mind pop up tell it to go away. Take captive of your thoughts. Pray for God to help you see women as a person not an object. They are beautiful made in the image of God. It's a slow process. This will all be in the Lord's strength, not your own. So ask for strength and pray when you feel the urge. GOD always give a way out.
I will tell you that I was addicted to porn and masturbation for many years, and I never thought it would be possible to ever defeat it. Its not something that is easy to overcome, but that is why God sends the Holy Spirit to live inside every believer upon salvation. The Holy Spirit gives us the power and strength to overcome temptations. He gives you the hate for sin, and the desire to please God instead. And everytime I gave in to temptation, I became extremely upset about it. But the more I resisted the temptation when it came and asked the Holy Spirit to remove the desire, the easier it became, and the temptations started to fade. The bible says that the Holy Spirit will always give you a way out. And its true. But it all depends on how much you desire to please God. Yes, there were times I gave in, but everytime I gave in, I was determined by the power of the Holy Spirit to defeat it. And the more I denied those desires, the easier it became. The bible says run from it if you have to. But you cant do it without the Holy Spirit. The flesh is too weak. But if you think its impossible, then you are saying that the devil is more powerful than God, and that lust can never be overcome. And thats a lie from the devil. You must spend time in prayer and the word to develop a relationship, and build a strong foundation. Its essential. The more you do this, the easier it will be to avoid lust. Look, of course we are all going to face temptations, but we should no longer be controlled by it anymore. We have been given the authority. So yes its possible because I did it with the Holy Spirits help. He is the key.

An excellent way that I have found to deal with the guilt comes from the sacrament of Confession. In my opinion, a great perk of being a Catholic.
depend on the Holy Spirit. Cant do it without Him. That is why He is given to every believer upon salvation. He is our helper, and our power and strength to resist sin. Our flesh is weak, but the Spirit is strong. The door is always open, Just dont give up, and keep trying. Be sure to spend time in prayer and His word daily to build that foundation, and develop that relationship with Jesus. Its essential. He cares for you, and has a special purpose for you. Seek Him 100%, and you will find victory over sin. And when temptation comes to mind, capture it immediately, and pray for the Holy Spirit to remove it, and it will flee. The longer you entertain it, the harder it will be to avoid. Run from it if you have to. Remember, God knows your heart, that is the important thing to always remember. We are not perfect, but as long as you are looking to Jesus for help, and your desire is to please Him, You will overcome. Its not always easy being a Christian, but it will all be worth it one day. Today I prayed and I sat in silence because our preacher is trying to show us and give us a challenge to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit
I asked a friend to make sure and I heard “read the scripture again and understand you are on the right path and you are my daughter” I also watched redeemed zoomer say that Paul washer can sometimes make a comment that sounds like to be saved we have to show less sin, and many of us take that as we are sinners, and I watched a video or a few going over the video about Ephesians and Galatians, Monday going over Roman’s or tomorrow
She said that if we are dead in our sin, we won’t notice how bad it is in our life, but if we are awake in a coffin we get uncomfortable and that means we are alive and when we sin we get uncomfy

After getting so much closer with God the past few months the enemy has been trying so hard to attack my mind and tell me that because of my flaws I am not good enough for God.
