These lines come from a song Bilbo wrote, and which the hobbits sing in the first book. In that context it has an entirely different tone. In its placement in the movie, performed by Pippin for the entertainment of Denethor, it takes on a far more somber tone, almost one of poignancy. One of the reasons I find the movies so fascinating is how they repurpose lines from different scenes to change their context.
The only thing missing is Denethor grotesquely eating cherry tomatoes in the background.

Definitely like both versions, but the "high version" has an ethereal quality to it that is just chilling. So it wins hands down for me.
I think the low version captures the scene its sung about better, sad and haunting
The high version has the etherealness of an elf eerily singing it at a funeral, but the low version sounds like a mother whose child just set out to do something dangerous, and it just hit me harder

The first once has a distance to it. It's sung for someone else, in a way. The second sounded more like the one singing it, needed to belt out some emotions, whether anyone was there to hear it or not.
The low version is like hearing Galadriel singing. God I love you!

The low version is just... It feels so much more real and in line with the scene that its from. The high version seems to miss the point for me personally. But your voice still stands as a work of art on its own, high or low. Beautifully done.

What i like about the lower version, is that the trembling you feel during the movie with the background music can be felt there, totally acapella.
