Thank you so much for all your upload work. Although I was only 11 years old I was a speed skate phanatic and wrote down all times during EC´s and WC´s. I´ve always remembered Kees Verkerk´s impressive 10 K ride. Now I relived it and enjoyed again !
Onvergetelijk. Ik had deze race nooit gezien, hoewel ik alles volgde en ook pas 10 jaar oud was. De televisie begaf het vlak voor deze race. Mooi om het alsnog te zien. Unforgettable. Ik never saw this race. I also attended the skating championschips, although I was only ten years old. Just before this race started the television got defect. Now I saw the race for the fist time. Thanks.
fantastic! of course I recall Verkerk, watching with millions others in Holland. Watching it again, I notice how smooth his riding was, I always thought Schenk had a smoother, more polished ride yet this is very impressive, technique/style-wise!
I love it when the first commentator (I think it's legendary Knut Bjørnsen) chuckles when he hears that Verkerk is more than 8 seconds faster than Fornaess after just 4 laps (around 8:40-8:42). I also like the way Schenk is congratulating Fornaess (from 5:20) and the friendship between the Norwegian and Dutch rivals. In those days Scandinavian speedskating fans could send postcards adressed to "Keessie, Holland" to the Netherlands, and every Dutch 'mister Postman' knew exactly which Keessie was meant.

Een van de mooiste races die ik ooit heb gezien. Nu nog met Nederlands commentaar zou helemaal geweldig zijn.
