Hi all! 🤍 When I first filmed this video I was unsure about how to best address the racism and harmful legacy of Gone With the Wind. At the time I felt that directing viewers to a NYT article in the description box was the best way to show reverence for this fact but in hindsight I do wish I had taken a few moments to address it within the video itself. I encourage any viewers to take a moment to read the following article that helped me better understand the real impact that GWTW had on our society and how that impact has harmed Black communities and people: www.nytimes.com/2020/06/14/movies/gone-with-the-wind-battle.html Thank you, Ashley
I just found your channel. Vivian Leigh has always been one of my favorite actresses since seeing her in Gone with the Wind many years ago. I’ve read the book twice and have seen the film many many times over the years. Her beauty took my breath away. I had read about her bipolar disorder about her having bipolar disorder. Maybe in today’s world treatment would have given her some peace. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Honestly, I think we do not need to apologize for or try to change the FACTS of history. Rather, the enlightened approach is to "TEACH A CHILD (by word and deed) in the (Godly) ways that he/she should go. Then when old, he/she will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 Ex: tearing down statues, that deserve to remain, as examples of true leaders or a particular battle, etc. (NOT saying ALL do). "A nation that forgets its past has no future." I'm a Vivien Leigh fan. She is my favorite actress and the most beautiful of all. You did a great job and I enjoyed every minute. Thank you for such a great tribute. I also enjoyed the makeup tributary. Wonderful.
You re a genuine, kind person. It comes through how you speak of others, peers and famous people alike. SO enjoyed this video. Vivien is one of my favorites, along with Greer Garson, Norma Shearer, and Myrna Loy. Thanks for the wonderful biography! 💜
Thank you so much Mary! I strive to be kind and genuine so that means the world to me! ❤️ I’m so glad you enjoyed this episode! I will definitely add Greer, Norma, and Myrna to the list! 🥰
What a moving story of love, acceptance, and compassion. If left in the hands of the wrong people her life could have been a tragic one. You see these Hollywood stars receiving prestigious awards, walking red carpets, you see their beauty and handsome counterparts and you think they must live a fairytale life. That is the farthest thing from the truth. They tirelessly craft their skills, fight for their roles, hold to their convictions, battle their insecurities and fears. Love seems to escape some but she lived a life supported in the strength of true love! Well done Ashley, you do these so beautifully you have a serious gift it is wonderful to behold it done in a way that honors these amazing woman who are so deeply imbedded in our hearts and the history of film!!! Bravo Ashley!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Happy Friday Maureen! 🥰 so true!! There truly is no such thing as an “overnight success”! It takes so much work and energy! Thank you so much for your kind words! I absolutely love researching these women and bringing their stories to life so it just is the best thing in the world to hear that it is enjoyable to watch! I feel like I’ve found such a fulfilling purpose in telling these stories! 🥰 I hope you have a fantastic weekend!!
You’re insanely gorgeous and the storytelling is so captivating! I would love to see Barbara Stanwyck, Loretta Young, Claudette Colbert, Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer and so many more!! Keep up with the good work 💕
I had all intentions of listening to a podcast on my commute tonight. I’m so excited that I found this instead. Thank you for keeping me company on my drive.
Ok, you had me tearing up at the end, girl... 😢😭🤧. LOVED this video. Mental health struggles, true love, passion, loss, and the journey to be taken seriously sounds like a complicated but real life. Great job, Ashley! (Fellow water sign here, Pisces, aka emotional...lol) 😊💜
Hi Robbie Lou! 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoyed this one!! It was such a pleasure to make - I didn’t know much about Vivien before I did the research for this video but wow what a life... I’ll happily share my tissues with you any day! 🥰
I'm a Pisces too! Maybe that's why I really like your channel Ashley. I just subscribed when watching your Gene Tierney episode a few minutes, ago. Great stuff!♓ ✨
I've always admired Vivien Leigh and felt so bad when she and Lawrence broke up -- you, Ashley, brought it to life and I cried along with you -- thank you for all your insights into Vivien's sometimes tragic life.
My mother was born in 1923. She spent many years in CA in show business as an actress. When she was 16, she and her mother met David O. Selznick where he gave her a very small speaking part in a scene with Joan Fontaine in “Rebecca” which he and Alfred Hitchcock were working on together. Hitchcock wanted another actress for the part and because they couldn’t agree on the actress, they cut the part. My mother had even been fitted for the dress for the part. When my mother showed up at the studio, she met Hitchcock. He asked her if she was British. When she replied no, he replied that’s a shame. In 2015, when going through my mother’s memorabilia, I found the script for the part my mother read for. It was in an envelope marked David O. Selznick Studio.
I don't think Joan Fontaine was British either. Her mother was. I believe Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland were born in Japan? And their mother moved them to Saratoga, California. I know Saratoga very well, because I was born in Palo Alto. Interesting background. What a thrill for your mother!
@@susandraluck25 Oh gosh, I barely said anything. I don't know much about Selznick. Hitchcock, on the other hand, had some sicko thing about blondes. He tortured Tippy Hedrin. Poor Kim Novak. She seems to have come through working with Hitch okay, even with her bipolar disorder. He was a mixed bag. 🥴
Ashley I have just discovered your channel and let me tell you, what a eloquence, the work behind your videos and the kind spirit that shines through, very well done, thank you ( the make up is incredible too )
I adore Vivien but had no 💡 she had such a complicated life. This was so informative and i loved all the pictures. Please do Lana Turner and Judy Harland

Great storytelling! Vis your good life advice: in her unfiltered 90s my mother confessed (with no guile) she thought I (my birth, that is) would save my parents' marriage 🙄 *eye roll*. Not. He divorced her when I was 3 and my father died when I was six. Poor ma.
Ashley, I found your series by accident-a happy accident. Very informative and surprisingly entertaining as I became mesmerized watching your makeup application! I’d love to know if you have a RUclips video in which you discuss your makeup regimen and tips😊
Hi and welcome!! Thank you so much for your kind words! 💖 I do have several videos on my makeup routine, my most in depth one is here - ruclips.net/video/MPeZd23JJd8/видео.html
Thank you for the amazing videos you produce, I have been binge watching and you have captured the actresses in a way that is like knowing them personally. I have to compliment you on the wonderful makeup you do while talking about the actresses and their lives, the effort you put into your videos really shows!❤
You really killed it Ashley, excellent from beginning to end! I seem to have the same eye irritation you have at the end of your videos... I just hate to see them go I guess :)
This is a genius idea! I am hooked! I love this so so much. As a Gen X'er I grew up completely in Awe of Marilyn Monroe and watching all the "old timey" movies because of my mom. I super Love old Hollywood and this is just a brilliant idea. P.S. don't feel bad, I too dropped a few tears at the end of this story.
I saw the Marilyn Monroe, assuming it was the first one...??? This one I loved lots also. Have I missed any? Love the classics. Thank you. P.S. I just scrolled and saw you have talked about quite a few. Will see them as soon as!!!!
Thank you so much Flor! 🥰 I’m so glad you found the others! I have a playlist on my channel homepage too where they’re all together. Thank you for watching! 🤍
😢 Vivian was my favorite and will always remain my favorite there is gone with the wind memorabilia out in my home I shall never forget her wonderful actress one of the most beautiful women in the world she's now at peace God rest her in your arms sweet Jesus
I am new to your channel and have so thoroughly enjoyed catching up on all of you wonderful videos. Vivien Leigh and Joan Fontaine are my favorite actresses. I just celebrated my 76th Cancerian birthday on June 28th and the sentimentality and tearing up only increase with age. I love being that way. Just keep the hankies handy because it only means you have a kind, loving, open and tender heart. God bless.
Leslie Howard was filming Intermezzo the same time as Gone With the Wind. He hated the role of Ashley Wilkes as he thought it sissified for a man to be so indecisive and sentimental about romance, especially with a war going on. He joked the Confederate Officer uniform made him look like a doorman at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. I believe Lawrence Olivier's ashes were scattered in the lake where Vivian's were, at Joan Plowright's OK. Articles about her are very conflicting, as you must know yourself by now. None of these people were simple . Talented, creative people are something of a law unto themselves, which is why Fire Over England is such an example of how 2 lovers can create the passion to save an Empire and pay dearly for their trouble. If I want to cry, I just think of Vivian on Waterloo Bridge at the end of that little masterpiece. Thank, Ashley, for this wonderful nostalgia tripping and your obvious empathy for these people.
wow! That was beautiful! I think we're all crying a little.......That was a great tribute to her & like the other comments, I had no idea the turmoil this woman went thru! But yes, she had a great love with Lawerence 🥰 and for that, we are thankful. I was looking up the very first Academy awards and noticed the actress Clara Bow.....She would be interesting for a biography I think ❤️ I love your face makeup brushes....what brand are they? And I hope you are feeling well after your vaccine ☺︎
Thank you so much Kristy! 🥰 your kind words are so encouraging and I’m so appreciative! I am feeling well after my vaccine just a bit tired today ☺️ Ah I love Clara Bow!! That will be a fun makeup look too! 🥰 the brushes I used on my face in this video were Zoeva (silk finish 102) and a Sephora collection pro brush (the exact one is discontinued but I love their brushes too) for contour. Sephora collection pro #60 for powder. And for highlighter I used a real techniques setting brush - real techniques are 100% the best drugstore price point brushes out there. I love them more than some of my expensive brushes. I’m a brush fiend so I really need to do a brush video soon! 🤣
I'm crying, too. Wow, such a beautiful tribute to Vivian and Lawrence. Their love was true love. Vivian let Lawrence go to have a more serene life due to her illness.
YOU! Are amazing! I love your messages and commentary! I just now chanced upon you! I was a cosmetology instructor for a time in my life and this was a project that our students were assigned for hours and communications grade! I wish they could see how you’ve applied the project to your life!!! I really enjoy learning about these beauties! Thank you! ❤
The eye make up in this video makes your eyes pop. One can't help but fixate on you. I know over dramatic words, maybe because this is about the Oliviers. Such a fascinating story. How horrible for her and anyone who was bipolar .
Thank you for this video (it is the second I have watched today) but thank you even more by being, as you say, "captivated" by Vivian/Vivien Leigh. She captivated me as a grade school boy. Her talent and yes, beauty, deserve all the superlatives one can give her--made more especially important by the challenges she had to face with tuberculosis and the little understood bi-polar disease. As the years have slipped by I've seen most of her films and read of her extensively i.e. a true fan. Get out a box of Kleenex for "A Streetcar Named Desire," "That Hamilton Woman," "Anna Karenina"and "Waterloo Bridge." (I own a dressing gown worn by Robert Taylor so 'Yay' only one degree of separation from Miss Leigh!) There are aspects of her life that don't fit neatly into being less judged--sometimes harshly criticized--but knowing that she had illnesses that stole from her what was at her core: kindness, tugs at your heart. She really did have one of the great romances of all time and that Leigh, Suzanne and Jack could see her special bond with Larry is so touching, as they saw past the face of her illness to whom she really was. Your tears and discourse on what "love is" at the end of your presentation touched me deeply. They brought my own for Vivien and Larry as well as struggle I face seeing my baby sister being destroyed by Alzheimer's disease. Your explanation reminds me how to be better in that challenge. Thank you for honouring this brilliant actress--especially if you've soldiered on through this long, long, comment. You will sense a theme in my suggestion of others: Joan Bennett, Heddy Lamar, Rita Hayworth--who rival Vivien's beauty certainly but cannot surpass it and had huge struggles in their own careers. Thank you again, you're lovely, A Fan
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with me! ❤️ I will be holding space for you and your baby sister and wishing peace for you both, from the bottom of my heart. 🙏🏻 I have videos on Rita and Hedy. "Gone With The Wind" is one of my top favorite movies. Leigh was lucky to have had such supportive people in her life. That is a great makeup look on you!!! 💄👍😄
This was a beautiful episode. I was crying at the end as well. I'm new to your channel, so if you haven't done Judy Garland, I would love to see your historical take on her.
I’m new and have been watching these videos. I see these are two years old. Will you be making anymore in the future? They have been very interesting and I’d love to keep watching other Beaty biographies.

Thank you so much Jackie!! 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoy!!!
Thank you for this video on Vivian. This was the most beautiful woman in the world for me, more than Hedy Lamarr, Elisabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe..
I saw the Marilyn Monroe, assuming it was the first one...??? This one I loved lots also. Have I missed any? Love the classics. Thank you.
P.S. I just scrolled and saw you have talked about quite a few. Will see them as soon as!!!!
Marilyn wasn’t the first. There are others to check out.
Thank you so much Flor! 🥰 I’m so glad you found the others! I have a playlist on my channel homepage too where they’re all together. Thank you for watching! 🤍
It was wonderful to hear the most entertaining knowledge of these iconic actors, very interesting!
God bless.
Thank you for sharing. The video was outstanding!
Thank you Marlene! 🥰
Ashley, you do an amazing job! Always so informative and fun! Thank you for a lovely time!
wow! That was beautiful! I think we're all crying a little.......That was a great tribute to her & like the other comments, I had no idea the turmoil this woman went thru! But yes, she had a great love with Lawerence 🥰 and for that, we are thankful.
I was looking up the very first Academy awards and noticed the actress Clara Bow.....She would be interesting for a biography I think ❤️
I love your face makeup brushes....what brand are they?
I'm so happy I found your videos! Your so informative and natural! ❤
Love your videos.
Thank you! ❤
The most beautiful woman ever !
The eye make up in this video makes your eyes pop. One can't help but fixate on you. I know over dramatic words, maybe because this is about the Oliviers. Such a fascinating story. How horrible for her and anyone who was bipolar .
Thank you so much for your kind words! This was one of my absolute favorite looks so I really appreciate this! 💜
As the years have slipped by I've seen most of her films and read of her extensively i.e. a true fan. Get out a box of Kleenex for "A Streetcar Named Desire," "That Hamilton Woman," "Anna Karenina"and "Waterloo Bridge." (I own a dressing gown worn by Robert Taylor so 'Yay' only one degree of separation from Miss Leigh!)
There are aspects of her life that don't fit neatly into being less judged--sometimes harshly criticized--but knowing that she had illnesses that stole from her what was at her core: kindness, tugs at your heart.
I have videos on Rita and Hedy. I would love for you to see them! 🥰 Rita was actually my first beauty biography as she’s my very favorite! 😍

I just discovered your videos a few days ago. So glad there are a lot that I have not yet seen. Like gifts waiting for me to open.
I don’t just like the videos, I feel as sense of admiration for the person you come across as you share your opinions and sentiments. Thank you!
"Gone With The Wind" is one of my top favorite movies. Leigh was lucky to have had such supportive people in her life. That is a great makeup look on you!!! 💄👍😄
Great job , fantastic story telling and amazing details about her life that I did not know ❤
I love the fact the director was like "she's way too British" literally 3 out of the 4 main characters are played by British actors.
Right?!? 😂🤣
This was a beautiful episode. I was crying at the end as well. I'm new to your channel, so if you haven't done Judy Garland, I would love to see your historical take on her.
Fabulous episode!!
Amazing.
Thankyou lovely lady z!💆😍
Ok now I am tearing up .
wow , very well done - this was my first time watching your presentation - enjoyed it a lot! Plus I do love your make up !
I absolutely love who you are. You exude such warmth and love.
I’m new and have been watching these videos. I see these are two years old. Will you be making anymore in the future? They have been very interesting and I’d love to keep watching other Beaty biographies.
