I'm starting to travel more with my business and this was great. Some things I never thought about but makes so much sense, like wet wipes and an extra pocket square!
Antonio, as a fellow former Marine without a coin, I'd tell you that you should leave that at home. I'd buy a drink for a fellow Marine and salute you for your service. It seems like a very heavy packing list, but to each their own. When I travel I prefer to dress casually on the plane and keep it to two luggage pieces - a Tumi roll on bag that fits in the overhead and a Tumi briefcase, both in ballistic Nylon. Looking forward to seeing the second part of this video.
I wish to God I could pack this lightly. Looks like you have it down to a science. Packing always takes me days and I ended up with 4 full size bags and two smaller ones last time. It's okay when flying private but a huge hassle when flying commercial. You are inspiring me to try to simplify and cut back. This is going to be difficult!
Great video and Antonio you never disappoint me in any advice videos, coming from someone who lives in Chicago which has similar weather to Wisconsin I totally can pack similar stuff. Keep up the great work
Flight crews & pilots use luggage & carriers that are polymer or plastic/alloy. Fabric or leather bags can draw bugs, lice, bed bugs, ants, etc. I'd suggest cleaning & inspecting bags or cases often. Use wipes or cleaners to reduce the germs, bacteria, mold, mildew, etc. A good garment bag & a med size case or bag can come in handy for most trips. I like Lands End, LL Bean, Duluthtrading.com . They offer "firefighter" type material bag.
Two small things I would add to this one that really takes up no space nor weight. 1. A power cable from your iPhone to your laptop, say for instance you find yourself with only one power outlet, plug in your laptop and then plug in the phone into the laptop by the USB port and charge it that way. It is not as fast as doing it directly but it might work. 2. Some Asprin or other kind of pain relif pills, not sure where you stand on these but I always try to have a pack closeby, either for myself or help someone out in need. You might really save someones day, I have done this myself.
Antonio, thanks for your video, I've been following your advice in dressing well while travelling you made in some other videos. I travel across border from the UK to mainland Europe and it does make the difference at the customs.
When having to walk a lot, I tend to lean towards backpacks. You can get some that look really stylish these days, like the Minaal (there's also a bunch in leather, but I forgot the name). If you're going to a conference, you don't want to be in pain, because your bag was too heavy. And I generally dislikes rolling bags, mostly because the leather-one I had, fairly high-end, started to rip at the bottom where the wire-frame was held in place.
Hey Antonio, great video. I was wondering do you do laundry when you travel, because you only pack like 3 pairs of boxers and 4 pairs of socks for 5 to 7 days ? Especially when you plan to workout with those socks and boxers.
Nick Bonte It's a breakdown of what I packed on a recent trip to from Wisconsin to Arizona. Keep in mind that Arizona has a milder temperature of 85?, compared to the 35? Wisconsin. So, I packed fewer jackets.
OH NO! You forgot a belt! I'd pack a brown leather that matches my shoes. It would also go nicely with the dark wash jeans. Great Video BTW ! Real Men Real Style
Great video!!!! Very useful to me, since I will be traveling to Australia-New Zealand next year. I have been researching packing and my research agrees with everything you said. Some additional comments: Wearing your bulkiest clothes is an excellent suggestion if you are traveling other than economy. I am 6’3” and 350 lbs., and usually travel Southwest. Wearing my bulkiest clothing would not work, because the eats would be big enough (and they are making them smaller). I am flying Air New Zealand, so I will have enough space to do that. Gum: Good to know I am not the only chewing gum addict. Colors: When traveling your three best friends are grey, brown and khaki. They go with everything and do not show dirt as much dark colors. Business Cards: I am having calling cards printed for the trip, because I have a difficult address and I figure it will saving me some trouble. CHUKKA BOOTS: I have been experimenting with them and they are as close as you can get to the perfect shoes. Rugged enough for active wear, but can be polished up and used for the evening. CHAMBRAY: A gift from the god’s fabric. OTHER ITEMS: Bring band aids for the inevitable cut that will not stop bleeding. Also, I bring an expander cable set to work out with. Versatile, hardly takes up any room, and you can exercise in the privacy of your room. Finally, I saw a video on another site of what American tourists look like to foreigners. They said that we wore clothes that were too big, that we were fat, and that we wore pajamas and did not care what they thought. I do not care what they think about me, but I do care what they think about my country.
Mifelt A basic dopp kit with toothbrush, toothpaste. If you need to carry shampoo, soap or hair products, transfer a small quantity into a TSA-approved travel tube.
ever since i saw alpha m's video on keeping your crotch dry and fresh, i always pack a travel size bottle of baby powder next to my wet wipes. feel a lot more comfortable when traveling
If you are going to be somewhere for over a week, shouldnt you pack fresh briefs and socks for every day? Undershirts I can understand you dont need a fresh one for every day.
Well, Caayotee has a point. I've been on a lot of hotels in a job I had transporting illegal immigrants back to their countries by plane. So I've been on hotels in almost every corner of the world, and I have never seen a hotel advertise "laundry service". I never even thought about it before. If they do have it, I shall not pack as much boxers, socks and shirts as I have done previously. (well, if it doesnt cost a fortune of course)
For a week long business trip, it looks relatively light. I'd personally cut out the jogging gear, running shoes are really bulky and I just opt out to go to the pool for exercise. I've also stopped carrying books while on travel, transitioned to the kindle fully. I also wouldn't take more than a single jacket, but that's due to me being used to living far up north. I think I'd melt in Arizona with one on.
Instead of bringing dress socks you should bring thin black athletic socks that way you can wear them with anything and not look weird wearing dress socks while running.
Oh, great! An explanation why people wear bigger bags than the size of an average tablet. (Seriously, I went a month long trip through europe with a bad that could barely have fitted a tablet. Not that I had one at that time... xD) What is an undershirt? I know it's an american thing, but... why? oO
Hey Antonio - I notice you said you're bringing 3 pairs of underwear and 4 pairs of socks for a 7-day trip. Can I assume you're getting them washed at the hotel? Otherwise, great video as always!
DerpMuffin If you need to carry shampoo, soap or hair products, transfer a small quantity into a TSA-approved travel tube. www.realmenrealstyle.com/packing-tips-travel/
Ben Strong What would you cut? Assume you're going to a business event and speaking in front of an audience, going gout nightly for dinner, and living in a temperate environment.
Real Men Real Style While I don't really abide by fashion trends, you seem to pack rather heavy. I'd cut down to maybe one tshirt to wear around the hotel since I'm not a big fan of undershirts and normally choose to do without. I'd take one pair of shoes that are dressy enough for meetings but comfortable enough for travel. Workout gear: If all I'm doing is running or swimming, no shirt is really required. Chances are also that the hotel will have a treadmill on which I would take no issue in running barefoot (I do quite often). Bodyweight exercises can be performed in the hotel room (in the buff if you so choose). One pair of gym short (like you) for working out, relaxing, or swimming. An assortment of ties with a few conservative shirts that are formal enough for a meeting, but comfortable enough for travel - Some may take issue to wearing a dress shirt all day, but I don't mind. I'd take maybe one suit with a matching blazer - I'd also wear one for the trip down. Two pair of pants: the dark wash jeans I wear to travel and the suit pants. I'd pack a pair of underwear and socks for every day I plan to be there plus one. All of the accessories will still fit. The water bottle is ingenious... kudos. I'm not much for products (creams, sprays, etc...). The most I usually take is deodorant and toothpaste. If I have space, I'll throw in my shampoo; I'll usually just use what's available at the hotel. On a trip, if it is absolutely necessary to polish anything when I am there, I'll find a cheap fix to tie me over until I return home. I never travel without my laptop(s). Yes, I have a dedicated bag that is large enough to include laptop, laptop accessories, and other carry-on essentials if my dufflebag is too large to be deemed carry-on. However, it will fit into my duffle so as to have only one bag to worry with for the remainder. Something else: I can't see traveling with such expensive luggage. My computer bag was $30 (maybe $40). My duffle was also less the $50; however, I do not remember an exact price because I have been using it for so long. My shoes don't cost over $100. Due to the small stature of both my body and my bank account, most of my shirts are ebay finds which translates to less than $20 a piece (including shipping). I guess I'm just of the the simple old-school thought (traditional good-ol-boy) when it comes to light traveling. I've made many extended trips with only one small bag. Please excuse any typing or grammatical errors. I'm still not good with this smart phone.
I guess the dry arid climate helped. ;-) Since you are a very seasoned traveler I will consider your breakdown a valuable resource.Whenever I travel, I find myself taking fewer things along for each new trip. There is a lot to be said in defense of traveling light. You are definitely on to something!
Why do you have such expensive shoes and traveling bags. (I noticed there're all well over $250 each ). I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just wondering.
C0MIC3R Because they are sponsors (or were), I know the makers, and they make quality products. Expensive is relative though - $350 shoes are inexpensive to some men, others it's a month's salary. I always say buy the best you can afford and move from there - no shame in going cheaper if your wallet isn't as thick. But strive for the best you can be.
those bags are way to heavy to lug around i like to go with my 1bag 45L RED OXX sky train carry on no check bags the only bag you need for traveling light 7 days to 21 days.
No, that is not light! I would call 3 day light: One outfit when fly - jeans, dress shoes, dress shirt, jacket. One pair shoes, dress pants and socks&underwear for every day. That is what I call light.
Love your videos, but this is not light. I travel to Tokyo with one carry-on and a briefcase for 2 weeks including formal clothes, suits etc and weekend casual. That is light.
Now I understand why americans always have such massive bags... I wonder what is considering packing heavy. oO But it's a great guide to essentials tho. (Even if your packing for 5 days is more clothes than I think I own all put together. *Laughs*) What kind of occasions do you use all those clothes for? Or do you run around so much your clothes start to smell within a day?

But it's a great guide to essentials tho. (Even if your packing for 5 days is more clothes than I think I own all put together. *Laughs*)
What kind of occasions do you use all those clothes for? Or do you run around so much your clothes start to smell within a day?
This is packing light? Are you serious?
