Until the person is actually convicted, it’s probably a legal issue about showing their faces, to prevent problems with prejudiced jury selection.
I’ve heard that, for example, potential jurors are asked if they have had a homicide in their family, and are excluded from serving in a homicide case, if so - because they would likely have prejudice towards the defendant.

No. They don't need to be shown so some idiot vigilante racist with a gun can start killing someone who looks like someone they saw on a RUclips video.

I remember being asked to follow shoplifters around Toys R Us and only intervene when they tried to leave with product. That was back in 1992-93.
I had a supervisor, a good supervisor at an old job in retail. He was fired for stepping out of the store to stop a man who stole a large shopping cart of pure liquor. It's against CVS Policy to stop "shrink" if witnessed. He had worked at that store with all his heart for 13 years. My supervisor lost his job and the shoplifter he stopped did not even warrant a police report when he reported the incident. I should note the police station was just down the street of this CVS.

I don't believe the reason why these corporation want employees to stop chasing thieves is because they care. Unfortunately employees are very replaceable. They only do this to stop employee and their families from suing them in the event of a death. Corporations don't care like that.

they should be thankful they still alive to be fired - you go ahead and try to stop some drug-addicted person who already desperate enough to steal for drugs - don't find out the hard way your life and your family loss was not worth whatever they stolen that was already insured
That's the best case scenario.
Some stores will use real security to stop thieves, but most store employees aren't trained for this. The company is basically saying, we don't want them to get hurt, we would rather lose our merchandise than risk our employees being hurt. People are a lot more valuable than things.

And stop their welfare/ government freebies!
This is all a coordinated effort to run down property values and close businesses so some new investors can get a discount.

In Sweden we have stores were you need your receipt in order to leave the store. You get a QR or bar code in the receipt that you must blip into a scanner in order for the doors to open. I think this alternative could put a stop to a lot of these shoplifting incidents. If the shoplifters know they can't leave the store without a code, they probably think twice about it

The robbers are most likely employees who aren't paid a decent living, get desperate in times of corporate greed, and know where the valuables are. Most places I've been that have seen theft you could tell somebody knew as much as someone who works there.

Home Depot is my favorite store! One day I saw a man throw a power tool in his cart and literally walk out with a smile looking dead at me. No police was outside or inside and it seems like he knew it. Store associates called for loss prevention who walked slowly to see what the problem was. I think they were working together.
You're probably right as an inside job and can bet you that someone working there know the guy personally and that employee of Home Depot is going to get a cut of what he takes or heck they might even use the power tool themselves
I have never heard anything more ridiculous than firing Lulu Lemon employees for telling thieves 'no, get out'.
If the faces of the bad guys are obscured then maybe don't expect them to be identified and caught. I see no reason to obscure the face of that man's father. It's easier to have sympathy for someone when you can see their face.

The company said let the insurance take care of it. I was ready to throw a rubber mallet though through their back window. My local Apple store keeps all of their inventory locked in the back room during store hours. Every customer who wants to see something must have an appointment. Customers also have to request that a store employee bring out an item for them to look at. Someone would have to smash through the door during store hours to be able to steal what's there. After-hours, these products are removed from the store and kept in an undisclosed location. Ever since these measures have been implemented, this store has had no smash & grab issues.

People back in the day knew how to deal with thieves. If your hand reached out to steal something then you’d lose it. Then it’s real easy to point out the thieves too.
Do you know how that started? Back in the day your white ancestors Mr. Hill, use to gather branches to build fires, but eventually the nobles were getting tired of seeing peasants in the fields collecting fire wood. There were no laws against these things because there was no real law declaring "private property" nor a law that said picking up wood was a crime. Everyone would get executed in these days so chopping a persons head or hands for "stealing" wasn't really necessary (unless these actions were directed towards the king). Laws had to be created though to stop these poor people. The creation of a place where they can be placed to "learn" their lesson was created. This gave way to new laws as well, such as trespassing. Suddenly this system worked. The rich kept their privacy, extended their influence, created a system of discipline training for subordination and the rest is history. Now we have prisons, petty laws, and poverty. Yeah your way of justice Mr. Hill just perpetuates these outcomes and behaviors. Defend the rich and they will surely keep doing what they do best; divide and conquer. Don't defend them and you will surely be guilt tripped to anyway.

Keep employees safe!? It's more like avoiding a lawsuit.
They need to change their store policy on theft and put more support on their employees to keep their store safe.
It's sad that this is what happens when you try to not let robberies ruin a criminal's life. People will always abuse the system.

I worked in this field as a loss prevention manager for many years, but these companies abused the LP managers and our teams! The best investigators left due to their failure to listen and implement true protective measures. So understandably this is their fate.
Look at the chain conveyor belt cheap labor making these products almost major profits how no one cry outrage made in China? Made in Vietnam made in Bangladesh paying $1 a hour yet again no outrage
Eh there is an enforcement mechanism that is currently missing from all of this. Several years of "defund the police" rhetoric, with many liberal bastions implenting that rhetoric, has left these communities and stores with a degraded police force that cannot prosecute the criminals. Either the department gets charged with some sort of fine or the DA tosses the case.

I worked for TJ max made a stop while as as asset protection and the person attacked me later that hour she was arrested for felony Assault . Went on a brief vacation and when I got back they fired me due to me defending myself. I had 29 stops all that month out of 31day in total the 2 years I worked I made over 300+ stops in the time I worked there built a great relationship with local PD and ORC the mangers over me spoke out and were frustrated with me as thier/TJ Maxxs policy was for loss prevention not to speak with above said people. The funny fact is the officers were so pissed that TJ Maxx fired me they stopped showing up to theft reports, in the end they closed down 6 months later after I left that store oh and they refused to give me backup!! As I would stop one person thier would be another shoplifter walking out while I was busy in top of it!! Would anyone agree with me what theses companies are doing is unfair??
I would never shop at a retailer that fired an employee for trying to do the right thing. Yes, keep your employees safe but don’t punish them. Shame on these retailers.
It's because criminals have too many rights these days and victims get prosecuted if they protect themselves.
squatter's law being one. imagine someone staying in your property and refusing to leave, police cant do anything about it....ridiculous.
@banstaman The reason is mostly progressive areas have the worst crime..The robbers are given Sanctuary. ..If these idiot politicians keep getting voted in ...what else do people think is going to be the outcome... Lawlessness prevails...FJB PLEASE ...
Welcome to the USA, you can only extort well off individuals so they charge the victim.
Nope. It’s much, MUCH deeper than this - it has to do with generations of marginalization, wage stagnation, and just massive failures across the board to give security and opportunity to POC. This is not a “woke” concept, it’s economics and it’s history. Criminals are not born, they are made, and an INTELLIGENT society would figure out why that’s happening.
@@9razzler9 I get squatters rights if like it is a property that the owner has never visited and you took it over, you can have a philosophical argument that it is justified. I don't get it when it is someone's home that they left perhaps for a month because they went on a well deserved vacation, etc.
It’s not the stores that need to figure something out. It’s our government who keeps letting these low lives back on the streets.
Some of those people have never committed crimes. So, now tax payers should pay for someone to go to jail for LIFE for theft? Or, are you assuming each one of them are black, which is why you want life sentences?

Hi ABC. You are in full support of the politicians, DAs, and judges that refuse to prosecute these criminals.
Employers: Don't try to stop them or you will lose your job.

That happened at a jewelry store break in near me. Just broken glass from display cases as the robber didn’t want to get locked in as worker pressed the button to close the door since mall. The store owner fired people due to glass damage. It was a south Asian robber and the store was owned by Indian people.
Do your job! Fighting criminals is not in the job description of a cashier. If you want to fight criminals to do your job, be a cop or security guy.
It’s past time for stores to fight back. Armed security!
They’ll be called racist, and will have their store burned to the ground.
Maybe start arresting people on the internet 🤷♂️
American dream. 82 years old still working. At Home Depot. No money for quality time when retirement or for bills.
I think eBay, Amazon needs to required receipts of purchase before reselling items online. They need to step up.
Step up? ... How do we know they're not wining and dining our legislators?
*My heart goes out to the people suffering from these horrible crimes but damn this reporter woman is fine as hell*
By allowing those criminals to walk out with those products and no attempts is made to stop them, these companies are giving the criminals the ok to do it. Get more security who are armed and have the authority to stop them, in order to stop this
I think the retailers know what they need to do, but they don't want to do it because of the bad optics.
90% of the poplulation doesnt have bad optics. its what lawyers will do to them
If I have to pay extra so that stores can have armed guards with instructions to shoot to kill, then I'm down with it. There is no way this will stop unless an iron fist is applied.
When I was young, I worked at Best Products, which was a Showroom Display Warehouse store. There was one of everything on display on the store floor, and customers would fill out order slips as they shopped. I worked in the basement, where the orders came down in tubes. Then, we would pull the orders and send them up a conveyor belt, where the customer would be called to pick up their orders & pay. Bigger items were given at the loading dock. There was very little theft, because there were showroom associates working upstairs, and there was no unattended, loose merchandise to shoplift! I always wonder why no stores do this now. They could even warehouse half the store for this, and only have a showroom of merchandise.
It was faster to shop this way than to have to have an associate unlock a cabinet for deoderant or whatever!
In-person shopping is going to fail the way it's going, causing more job losses and less social interaction between people, leading to more isolation and depression.
The pandemic lockdowns already sealed that deal badly enough. We can hardly be called a society anymore, sadly.
Measures should ensure to fix why people are doing this. Hello!!
I honestly think petty theft needs to be taken more seriously. What is small and petty looks more like an act of terror against a community. I also think if they are minors then parents need to take some accountability. They need to be put into programs to prevent these things from happening again.
You lost me at “programs”. While it might help one or two kids in a group, the vast majority of them are doing it for fun. They have plenty of food, shelter and housing.
@@xxpervysagexx That’s absolutely false, and you are the reason that this problem will only get worse - reactionary racist politics that ignore the generational effects of a history of marginalization. Crime culture is created in communities where people can’t afford basics like housing and healthcare, and are given no reason to have trust in the “systems” of education, government or the law.
@banquetoftheleviathan1404 criminals always start small don’t they? They can steal several hundreds of dollars in hats and still get off with a misdemeanor.
@@xxpervysagexx actually if you watch the video, it’s usually part of a larger operation. They use kids because they can get off easier than adults. And if a child with food and housing is so bored that they need to smash and grab stores and run people down then that’s more reason they need to put into a program.
Their parents are probably in on it

At some point don't ebay Amazon etc etc need to be held accountable for advertising stolen goods?!
Decades of being told this is our strength is responsible for this.
Law enforcement & retail need to come together with law makers to deal with this urgently. Penalties need to be much more severe.

@@MrLazlness so the mugshot they showed of Robert Dell (the ring leader) and his accomplices shows they are from Africa. Ok. 🙄
It is profitable to target law abiding citizens/ people with checking accounts for traffic violations. Why mess around with violent criminals when arresting them will not increase revenue for the city/county. In addition why risk possible lawsuits for stopping the bad guys. The cops are optimizing and do the bare minimum. Essentially “quiet quitting “. I wish we could hold them to higher standards but we would probably all do the same in their shoes.
@Jasluv2016 yeah they clearly cherry picked that crew so people like you wouldn’t be triggered. Odd they were able to catch them but not the others who we see doing this crap daily. Go cry about it. 🤡
Years ago we had a local department store called Service Merchandise. It was two floors & all the goods were kept on the 2nd floor. The first floor was display models & the cash registers. You paid for the stuff first & then waited until it came down the conveyor belt from upstairs. ZERO shoplifting with this setup.
Apparently retailers can take it and apparently it won’t hurt the economy and apparently it’s better to let them just take everything and not try to stop the thieves. The excuses I hear everyone tell me whenever I say this will hurt jobs.

Just close all the stores. We’re forced to buy everything online.
eBay ,Amazon and Craigslist are the biggest fencing operations in existence.
This is the root of the problem. These companies along with Facebook Marketplace profit from sellers who list and sell stolen merchandise. There is no real technology that actually prevents them from selling stolen goods. As consumers, we could stop buying online unless we're absolutely confident the transaction is with an authorized seller. I don't want to inadvertently buy stolen products!
