I also find it interesting how he cut out a lot of the lyrics from the original version and stripped it to its emotional core. As an artist, I think that is often difficult to achieve. There's a tendency to want to over-explain to your audience in the fear they won't get it. But I think cavetown simplified this song for the better.

This song is way to nostalgic. Last year I all most killed myself over a girl that I had chased so much. We said we loved each other but it still amounted to nothing and she broke up with me because of stupid circumstances. I found cavetown's channel about a year ago, and since then I've figured myself out. I found out that I'm trans, I found my name, and I found my pronouns. Before I heard cavetown's music, I was going to give up. Every day was unbearable, and nothing helped. I had so much dysphoria I couldn't look at myself in the mirror, some days I couldn't even get out of bed. I often cried myself to sleep, and I was severely depressed. Since then, I'm so, so, so much happier. I'm starting to socially transition (I'm still a minor, so I can't transition yet), and I'm finding what makes me euphoric and I'm being my true self. It's still hard. It's still so hard, hearing my deadname, being misgendered, feeling in the wrong body. But now I have a reason to live. I want to see myself as I really am. So I'm fighting, every day. I'm getting out of bed, and showing, and getting dressed, and putting a smile on my face. Even if I don't feel like smiling, I have to keep smiling. Cavetown helped me realize I was trans, and through their music, I'm better than ever. It's gotten me through mental breakdowns and when the dysphoria gets bad, and it's given me motivation. From such a major breakthrough in my identity, from just a band, I still have to say thank you. So thank you, Cavetown, for being the reason I'm still here. Sincerely, Mushroom.

This song is way to nostalgic. Last year I all most killed myself over a girl that I had chased so much. We said we loved each other but it still amounted to nothing and she broke up with me because of stupid circumstances. Even after I almost killed myself over her she kept trying to get me to come back to her saying that she loved me. Thank you cave town for this song. I think I have finally gotten over her.

for ages i've avoided this song because it reminded me of a dark time in my life, but im learning to repurpose songs from that time. feels so nice to just be allowed to listen to this beautiful song from my favorite artist after so long :)
I found cavetown's channel about a year ago, and since then I've figured myself out. I found out that I'm trans, I found my name, and I found my pronouns. Before I heard cavetown's music, I was going to give up. Every day was unbearable, and nothing helped. I had so much dysphoria I couldn't look at myself in the mirror, some days I couldn't even get out of bed. I often cried myself to sleep, and I was severely depressed.
Since then, I'm so, so, so much happier. I'm starting to socially transition (I'm still a minor, so I can't transition yet), and I'm finding what makes me euphoric and I'm being my true self.
It's still hard. It's still so hard, hearing my deadname, being misgendered, feeling in the wrong body. But now I have a reason to live. I want to see myself as I really am. So I'm fighting, every day. I'm getting out of bed, and showing, and getting dressed, and putting a smile on my face. Even if I don't feel like smiling, I have to keep smiling.
Cavetown helped me realize I was trans, and through their music, I'm better than ever. It's gotten me through mental breakdowns and when the dysphoria gets bad, and it's given me motivation. From such a major breakthrough in my identity, from just a band, I still have to say thank you.
So thank you, Cavetown, for being the reason I'm still here.

My grandma adopted me while my birth mother was an addict, I still keep in touch with my birth mother (like she calls once a year) she often promises that she will come see us or “I will call you tomorrow)” and it never happens, and I have gotten into many arguments with her about that I don’t have the gut too ask her who my father was, she lies too me and it breaks my heart, I tried trusting her before and nothing ever came of it, my little sister still lives there and I miss her, I want a normal family, I want a father, but it’s all just a Dream for me, this song helps me go through the stuff with my birth mother, it is how I feel with her whenever I talk too her, but thank you cavetown for making awesome music

I always tried to make my own love and I usually feel in love with guys/girls whose not really into me. I feel in love with the idea of them. Now with the help of true love and the feelings I started to learn my mistakes and move on. I don't need any dream crush to make me happy.
