When I need to sew lighter thread on a darker fabric, especially black, I take a Sharpie and carefully touch the stitches and color the thread . No one knows then! Great project! Great job on the stockings too, Judy!
My guess would that the cameo fabric could be a lighterweight than pants fabric. Just a possibility. At any rate, this is a cute & clever adaptation and also fits the recycle plan. Great job.
Very cool! But i really liked the pocket on top of the triangle entirely, not caught in the vertical side seam. I would have suggested unstitching the inside leg seam so you could sew the pocket on flat, then resew the inner leg seam back into the leg tube. Extra ripping and sewing, sure, but worth the final effect...❤
Lovely outcome ❤❤❤❤ please make a project on --> Reuse men's pant to skirt/dress Or --> reuse men's pants into something good I would love to get more inspiration from you....❤❤❤❤❤❤ keep doing the good work ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
Love that you were able to follow-through on your plan to make these. Just great! HEY!!! I noticed that you are almost at 100,000 subscribers! We need to help get you there!
Catherine, can you do a video on upcycling a man’s suit jacket? I have a bunch of men’s suit jackets that are in great shape but no longer fit any of the men in my family. I’d love to try to upcycle them for myself. Have you any ideas?
AWESOME!!! I am fiddling with an old pair of my husbands jeans, doing a bunch of creative/visible mending. I'm seriously considering doing something like this one another pair. LOVE your funky glasses!!!
they look great!!!...I absolutely love skinny jeans, keeping mine.. I do have a worn out skinny jeans I will be doing patchwork scrappy and maybe a quilt triangle. I also love the magnifying lamp , so good for those teeny tiny stitches, I was in alterations for many years and we used razor blades and x-acto, we needed to get things done fast, just suggesting something quick and easy.
There is no way I could use an xacto or a razor blade without 1) cutting myself and 2) cutting into the fabric. Wish I could though, because that would make things way easier. I’m thinking of buying the seam ripper she recommends to see if it’s any better. Xacto should make a seam ripper that would kill!
Not much of a camo girl but I love this idea. Maybe blue jeans material?? Also at 21:23 you comment on a "struggle". I see its not just me, but also Pro's like you!
Perfect timing. I just had out a piece that I wanted to make pants out of but its leftover from another project and the shape of what's there isn't fitting. BUT I have 3 pairs of pants in my donate pile to choose from to make it work
that was so cool. I want to upcycle som blue denim by actually overlapping the legs so I get double layers for warmth (norway and denim, cold in winter). At the same time changing the look from skinny to straight leg. Could you consider attempting that for a video? I haven't quite figured out how to do it. Another part of the modification I need is raising the waist from mid&low to mid high by layering the two waistbands. I think that part would be straight forward if I keep the main zipper and just add another waistband with the button, thus ending up with two buttons at the top. Does that make sense? any input appreciated!
Woah would love to see how that would be done. And finally someone who understands why I have summer jeans and winter jeans! Also, I’m totally with you on doubling them. I’ve never seen that done. You have to film yourself doing it and share it to RUclips. Heck, if you film yourself I’ll edit it for you if you want!
Yes! There is this video: ruclips.net/video/0sUV7kmjmns/видео.htmlsi=7O_oFhuMfbHVIFaf and one of my students added a second waistband and it turned out great! instagram.com/p/C3Gq4RTP-0G/
I've done something like that. Two things I learned - I needed a hook & eye between the 2 strips of waistband. Didn't seem like the 2 buttons were quite enough. And, I have to make some darts in the upper waistband. As you go up your waist it gets narrower. Still, would like to see Catherine do this!
thanks Catherine, The other video will definitely widen them so Imight do it that way , as you pointed out, layering themm for warmth would have to be sewn in a tube and that would be difficult
I really want the entire pocket on the outside. Would it be a good idea to do the top stitching on the pocket itself and then hand sow that to the pants? Of course it’s jeans that might make it impossible… What do you (any of you) think?
I thought about that. Also since finding camo pants was so difficult for her I bet I won’t be able to find any. But fabric has gotten so expensive. I don’t know but it’s an option for sure.
You both have a good point, but I try to use pre-loved items over buying new, and that applies to fabric as well. Plus, the camo pants had great looking pockets already, so I think it made things easier.
I bet all your students will want to make a pair when they see yours! I know I did😉🥰🥰
Im thinking instead of camo leopard print❤
I loved watching your retreat sewing video! So many clever ideas. Thanks for sharing your demonstration of this idea.
You said that you would make those! They look perfect, just like the inspiration. Now I have an easy example to follow
I was too distracted by the view of Judy's garden!!
Yes it was beautiful
Beautiful view and a nice day 😊.

These are cool! Think I would leave off the pockets for a more sleek look
A little black Sharpie on those pale threads on the black of the leg hem and all will be good, and nobody will know...ask me how I know! 😊
Oooh what a good idea! I was thinking of doing the hem by hand so that I could switch the colour of the thread but I like this idea better 😂
Perfect idea! I will do that!
Instead use a black permanent FABRIC marker, because Sharpies can fade and will bleed into surrounding fabrics.
Awesome results, as usual. You girls had so much fun at the retreat!
Love this idea! I might use a pair of white jeans with denim inserts and pockets, so many possibilities! Thanks so much for this idea!
Sew cute! I hope my beginner skills can do this project.
I'm trying not to overuse the words easy and beginner-friendly, but I think this project is great for a beginner!
Fabulous!!🎉🎉🎉 this is a fast and fun way to update those skinny leg pants/jeans we see out there in the wild.
So glad you like them, Jamie!
I have to make these !!! Thank you for your inspiration . ❤️❤️
Wow I like how they came out. Thanks for sharing

You amaze me. ❤

Yay, Susan!! Thanks so much for the inspo!!
Ah thank you Susan, yours looked amazing too. Such a great idea that I never would have thought would look this good.👍
Catherine, trust me - nobody is going to notice the back tacks.

I love skinny jeans too! I’m short and wider legged jeans make me look chunkier.

My mother-in-law uses a scalpel! But I would definitely slice up the fabric and my hand!
@@sylviemariehebert9758 ..practice is all it takes I've used both for about 40 years
Love them! You can take a black sharpie to those few olive stitches if it bugs you. 🌈🌈🦋🦋

Brilliant!! 👏👏😍
Amazing as always!! I've got some black skinnies that I may just have to try this with! Would look cute with light and dark denim too 😊
They look cute on you!
I love this one! I think that if I make it, I'll hand sew the pocket, maybe using sachiko stitching.
Very cool idea 👌🏻
So cool, now I have to try this
This is a cool idea and I think could be done to a straight midi skirt, turn it into a walking skirt
Very nice. Thank you for sharing
Woooooooot!

Since the flap on the pocket gets sewed into the seam , how easy to get into the pocket?
Now I have to make them too! Just have to find the thrift stores in Orlando. Anyone out there in my new neck of the woods with suggestions?
Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy camo fabric than the pants?
I thought about that. Also since finding camo pants was so difficult for her I bet I won’t be able to find any. But fabric has gotten so expensive. I don’t know but it’s an option for sure.

@CatherineSews Yes, I would vote in favor of pre-made pockets too!
Older fabric has than worn in look to it that can't be duplicated. I also like to repurpose whenever possible.
