  • Bangladesh is undergoing an unprecedented crisis as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had been in power for 20 years, resigned and fled the country amid escalating protests. What began as a demonstration against a jobs quota system has rapidly escalated into a massive upheaval against her and her government.

@@shieldstark4482 Keep coping. Bengalis have a rich history of uprising. It's not the first time and it won't be the last time if things go south. Our literature is filled with poems and songs of uprising and revolution. No dictator will rule over us. We ended martial law in 1990s and brought back democracy. That was a bloody uprising as well. When Hasina ended democracy by changing the constitution to remove interim government for election, the reason she was allowed to rule for so long even after her sham elections is because the other party was equally bad. Before Hasina's second term during BNP rule, Bangladesh came first in the corruption index for back to back several years. So people didn't mind the one-party rule of Hasina. But when Hasina opened fire on unarmed students, it was the beginning of her end because now she couldn't be tolerated anymore saying "Oh the other party is equally bad too!" If the military or anybody tries to take control of the country, they will face similar fate. They just witnessed how Hasina ended, they wouldn't even dare. The military wanted to make an interim government with themselves and the opposition party, the students denied and said they would choose the government and they did. The military immediately accepted. It's not the middle east or Pakistan. We are a homogeneous country with no tribalism or significant ethnoreligious minority areas. The country is too small but the population is too high. So uprisings spread too fast with very high intensity and there is no isolated area where the capital can be moved. So uprisings are almost always successful.

From Bangladesh, here to respectfully and honestly provide context. I kindle urge everyone to read please. It will be much appreciated. 1) Let’s all acknowledge that sheikh hasina’s government was an autocratic government. She jailed and prosecuted almost all the opposition party and used BCL (Bangladesh Chatro League/ Bangladesh Student League) to commit all forms of atrocities for years. She has been in power for over 16 years and during this time, the country has been crippled with corruption at every level of government. Over the last decade, over 100 billion dollar have been laundered out of the country all while the economy was slowly collapsing. 2) The students started the peaceful protest last month against reserving 30% spots in all government jobs and public universities for the descendants of freedom fighters. Bear in mind, the existing quota system has already been grossly abused to favor giving positions to pro government goons aka Bangladesh Chatro league (BCL). So students were already being discriminated against and this just added insult to injury. In response to this peaceful protest, the police open fired and killed over 50 students in one day. The protests got even stronger and so did the killings by the police and BCL (Bangladesh Chatro League). BCL was openly firing on unarmed protestors under the protection of cops. Over the length of this protest over a thousand have been killed (75% of which were students) and over 7 thousand jailed. Helicopters were flying by while brush firing down. 10 children under the age of 10 died in their own homes and roofs because of this. The protest got even stronger. Sheikh Hasina, during this time, not only failed to take responsibility but called the protestors terrorists and rajakars. 3) Throughout the entire protest, students did their very best to be peaceful but as more children and students died, the anger of the people grew. Imagine your fellow brothers and sisters being shot indiscriminately just because they asked to be judged based on merit. Won’t you be angry? But even then, until sheikh Hasina resigned, students committed no violence on anyone. Unfortunately, things were about to change…. 4) after sheikh Hasina resigned and everyone was celebrating, a group of people stormed the Gono bhaban (president’s house) and looted the place. They were also vandalizing local stores. But remember that this is a protest lead by students and many of the vandalizers were not students (evident from the videos). However, students quickly spread the word on the internet and volunteering groups started forming to bring back a lot of the stolen property and safeguard the existing government properties. Most people online shunned such behavior of vandalism as well and encouraged everyone to do the right thing. 5) later that night, we started hearing that temples were being attacked and minority stores were being attacked. Some of these attacks did indeed happen but we realized by cross checking that many of the pictures spreading on social media were recycled. Meaning some pictures from violence that took place in 2018 and 2022 were being reused as recent pictures of recent attacks. Screenshots (social media communication screenshots) also started circulating of Bangladesh Chatro League members directing attacks on local minorities and temples. The objective was to create a Muslim vs other religion situation and trigger unrest. Students were also immediate to take actions in this regard. They formed local groups to provide protection to religious monitors. Pictures, posts and calls of these groups providing protection to minorities circulated the internet. Muslims were protecting the temples and churches. It was a beautiful scene. 6) later at night, after the police that unjustly killed students got scared. They formed a coalition, accessed the armory and went on a March on the street. Nobody knew where they were going but they were shooting left and right on their way and we lost many fellow countrymen. A rumor also started circulating that these people were Indian RAW agents but everyone was asking for evidence for such claims, many even laughed it off. Ultimately, the raw rumors were debunked. 7) Dear people, what we went through is a revolution. A Revolution to create an independent, corruption and violence free Bangladesh. Instability and violence are typical elements of a revolution but that moment of vulnerability doesn’t define a nation. We are in the process of forming an interim government today and will declare general elections soon. People have made one thing clear: no Bangladesh national party, no Jamaat and certainly no theocracy. We, the current generation are committed to creating a Bangladesh where people of all age, color, race and religion can live in peace. Will it be achieved in one day? No, but we are committed to it and we will protect our fellow brothers from any religious extremism. We want to be a proud nation like as well but we must be given the chance to rebuild. Please don’t define us by our lowest moments. It’s important to see the whole picture. Thank you for listening

Why do you guys forget that we are people of this land, you may have different faith now. But neither Pakistanis nor Bangladeshis have any Arab or Persian or Turkik ancestory.
Can you highlight some day why so much hate for India.

Actually it's not small nations or big nations it is the difference if it's Nation State or State. Nation States often have high probability of coup, like Bangladesh and France, however India is a State.
Only few examples of States having coups is Pakistan which despite not being a Nation State have seen active coups.

You seem like a very rational person, the type of people it's actually fun to debate.
I'd argue that forced conversions was a small part of people converted to Islam, Just look at indonasia for instance. But RUclips's comment section is not an ideal place to debate so I cant share more.
Also I agree with muslim's being divided but there's a very logical reason if you think about it for a sec. Our religion is same but not cultures, thought process and history is not. But it would have been a lot better if even those small 57 countries could unite.
Fun fact you might not know. There are many predictions from Propher PBUH on divided muslims and vicious leaders. One of them is "There will come a time for my Ummah when their rulers will be cruel, their scholars will be greedy and have little piety, their worshippers (will act) hypocritically, their merchants will commit usury and conceal the defects of their buyings and sellings and their women will be busy with the ornaments of the world. Hence, at this time, the most vicious of them will dominate over them, and their good doers will invocate but they will not be answered."
Alot more to write but can't.

@@ScalewithSaqib Indonesia i.e. Dutch East Indies and Malacca i.e. Malaysia was introduced to Islam through traders and Indian traders had a role to play.
Hence wherever Islam spread through traders it had a different Islam. Where it spread through invasion there people are different.
Now on the topic of ummah. I think there are diversifying and unifying factors. Both will play. If a coin has two sides then same is true in terms of these factors.
One cannot have too much unification and similarities. Humans are diverse and that is because weather and climate is.
Imagine the whole world that thinks similarly wears and eats and drinks and dances similarly.
What a boring world. Everyone looks the same speaks the same.
There can be no Ummah or anything similar. I always wondered why is there no Christian Republic of ....
      Or Buddhist Republic of....
But there are many Islamic Republic of....
Too much religion... And usually whenever something is latest it gets talked and followed a lot. Islam is the latest religion...
I believe that in human civilization of 50k years many wise men came and benefitted the society they lived in. We just don't know.
There will be many same wise men maybe 2000 years later and the currently acknowledged Prophets may not be even known
Hence when we look at long long time periods a lot of things get clearer.
Anyways the point was that small nations can always be manipulated externally and internally.

Get over it man. Stop it. Accept that we have different faith now. Partition was bound to happen (not your fault if you have been brainwashed into thinking that Pakistan was only made on bases of religion) even if we had similar faith. We don't even care about it. Our culture, traditions, history was always different. And TBH who is even to claim that we have have Turkic, arabic, Persian ancestory? Maybe it's only thing YOU dream of (that we claim it) i have only seen Indians accusing us of claiming different ancestry rather then a Pakistani actually claiming one. Almost everyone is proud of their own history and ancestory. What we say is yes we have had many different migration on this indus river and from different parts of the world. And Arabic invasion, it was one of it, it's also a fact. And no people are not 2 3 generation "convert" (which is also a thing you guys try to utilise to make fun of us) but actually it was 712 AC. And lastly what is this for "Convert" and you guys saying that "accept you ancestory" "you ain't Arabic/Persian" and trying to affiliate us with your self forcefully? Can only Arabic and Persian be Muslims? And since when being a so called "convert" is an insult? Do you even realise that Arabic and Persian also did convert at some point in the history?

As a Bangladeshi university student ⚔☪
Hasina did some development but also fallen on the verge of debt. Our roads and internet are really developed from the capital to the rural villages but the corruption and the dictatorship , of free speech was suc*ks , enforce disappearance was the unwritten law here by the police and RAB!
🔻One important fact to consider is that when Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009, it was a different era. The new generation of students today, who are not the same as those from 2009, are now demanding greater freedoms-including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and an end to corruption at all levels. By July 2024, the situation escalated dramatically with the government’s internet shutdown and crackdown, resulting in the deaths of at least 56 children (who were at home) and over 1,000 students and civilians due to law enforcement actions against the Sheikh Hasina regime.
🔽The legacy of student activism in Bangladesh since 1971 is indeed unique. The bond between students and the general population is strong and significant. It’s remarkable to see students as young as grades 7 to 10 risking their lives for their fellow citizens, demonstrating a level of commitment that is beyond imagination.
We, the current generation, are aware of India’s attempts to exert influence over us, and while we view Pakistan as a brotherly nation, we also recognize the events of 1971. Nonetheless, we strive for a positive and constructive relationship with Pakistan.

Well, We can't expect something like this to happen against govt. because we have 4 independent provincial Govt. and 1 Central Govt. body and Army influence as well. So a mob can't fight against 6 different entities at the same time. The system of Pakistan has been designed in a way to avoid this kind of cu or riots. In the beginning, there was only the quota demands, and then the ex-pm had to call them "Razakars." However, they didn't ask her to step down after that. Their slogans had changed somewhat, and they started to call themselves Razakars, which provoked the ex-pm. She then ordered the crackdown and curfew, while disabling internet within the entire country. She made sure, that the rest of the world aren't able to learn what is happening inside, and ordered the armed forces to shoot the students. Till that time, the students only had the quota correction demands.
After a large number of students being murdered by the police, the govt. offered to sit and communicate with the students, however, the students disagreed, and demanded punishments for the guilty, which the ex-govt. completely ignored. They continued the curfew and continued killing the students, and after a certain week or so, the entire student community demanded the step down of the ex-pm, and rest of the nation came to their aid with the same aim.
It's not that the students took a rough decision, it's totally what they were forced to do by the ex-pm and her fascist style of ruling the nation. Please let everyone know. Thanks in advance.

Bangladeshi should understand the sacrifice of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. What they did with Sheikh Haseena it's okay but what they with the statue of Mujibur Rahman is completely disturbing. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the founder of Bangladesh people of Bangladesh should understand this
