YEAR IN REVIEW | The WWF in 2000 (Full Year Documentary)
The year 2000 was a huge year in pop culture. In television Malcolm in the Middle first hit the airwaves, in film Scary Movie was selling out theatres, and over in the world of wrestling, the WWF would be going through arguably it’s best year ever creatively. Yes, this was the year where stage two of the Attitude Era took over as, with the loss of Steve Austin and the introduction of a host of new great wrestlers, things would go to another level entirely. So, join us today as we take a deep dive into the entire story from start to finish in The WWF in 2000: A Year in Review.

December 1999 to January 2000 was when I started watching raw and SmackDown every single week. My friends were always into it and so I would watch a little bit for them but then I moved away from my friends to a new state and watching wrestling helped me feel connected to them... And quite frankly I was completely hooked with that storyline of triple h and the McMahon Helmsley era, and The Rock and Mick Foley fighting the power.. I stayed and kept watching every week for a few years after but I always looked back very fondly on this time.

The issue isn’t whether there will be another *insert wrestler’s name*. The issue is a direct result of going public and buying up their last competitor when Turner sold WCW to Vince. They control too much, down to fully scripted promos to insure they keep it clean while stifling the any creativity these weather today might have all so they don’t piss off investors. They can be as campy as the 80s and early 90s and as clean as a Disney show, because there is no direct competition making them look old and played out. The WWF suffers from the same thing Madden Football does. Being the only show in town ruins a great product. AEW will never be to the WWE what WCW was to the WWF.

For me, 2000 is without a doubt the best year ever for wrestling and it really shows you how strong the company was that the absence of Stone Cold or Undertaker didn't hurt anything at all. The Rock was the most popular wrestler ever, Triple H was the biggest heel, Kane was on fire (no pun intended) Kurt Angle stepped up to become a big player.
Lots of guys stepped up to make names for themselves and the tag team division was stacked. Undertaker returned as the American Badass to fit into the the 00s, Stone Cold came back more vicious than ever. Every ppv from start to finish was red hot, there's a good reason why 2000 is still looked at as the best year ever.
Great video as always and keep up the good work

He'll use you until you break every bone in your body--as long as he can make money off of you. Vince once told Hogan: "Nobody, ever REALLY leaves the business". That was Vince's way of saying: "your ass belongs to me forever".
Rock was one of the first to kinda change that narrative. He left at a very young age, with his health intact and the rights to his name. It's about control and respect! I watched the entire Attitude Era over again back when it was on the Network and honestly the year 2000 wasn't as good as I remembered it. I wouldn't say it was at it's peak creatively either. The talent on the roster was at it's peak but the creative was definitely lacking. For starters, in 2000, they toned down the story and edginess in favor of matches. In 98 and 99 all the talent had their own individual storylines where in 2000 most of them had no real storyline to get behind. In 2000 the storylines focused mostly on the main event which left much of the mid card having to rely on the strength of their gimmicks to get or stay over(Godfather with his hoes, Dudley's with their tables, the Hardy Boyz Edge & Christian with their high flying stunts, Too Cool and Rikishi with their dancing). Those who didn't have a strong gimmicks got lost in the shuffle(Bob Holly, D Lo Brown, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, Billy Gunn etc). Those whose gimmicks were too edgy(Val Venis, Godfather, Mr. Ass and most of Dx) also became casualties to the company having gone public and slowly getting rid of their offensive characters.
The Mcmahon/Helmsley storyline in 2000 started off strong but much like with the higher power storyline got ruined by adding to much Mcmahons. Then there's the fact that a lot of the main talents were grossly misused. Jericho didn't have any real memorable storyline that year. Taker comes back with a new gimmick and the creative have no real clue what to do with him outside of just having him feud with the Rock for the belt. His next feud was with Angle but the feud was about Angle spilling milk on Taker's bike. They had no idea what to do with Kane, Big Show, X-pac and Road Dogg after the Mcmahon/Helmsley story. Even Rock's booking was suspect. I mean the Rock was the biggest talent in the company in 2000 yet you have him in a main event where the main storyline isn't about him but about a love triangle between HHH, Stephanie and Angle. The only guys who really had spectacular booking were HHH, Foley and Angle. That's not even mention how they botched up the Austin return storyline by making Rikishi the driver. So I definitely wouldn't say the creative was at it's peak in 2000.

I love watching the WWF when I got home from school I watched SmackDown on Thursday nights on UPN and Raw Is War on Monday nights on the USA Network. I watched everything that the WWF Superstars are in them; the commercials, the Chef Boyardeee, the RC Royal Coda soda regular or diet, the Outback Steakhouse, TV shows ,movies, the WWF Shopzone, everything. Stone Cold Steve Austin The Rock Triple H The Undertaker Kane Kurt Angle Chris Jericho Mick Foley and Eddie Guerrero Edge and Christian The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz are the reason, the main reason I love watching pro wrestling including the WWF in late 1999 and 2000 that was very cool to watch and it brings back memories and nostalgia I remembered. And the World Wrestling Federation still beat WCW World Championship Wrestling in the TV ratings each and every week.

With the Rock, Triple H, Taker, Kurt, and Austin all being legitimate main event contenders, 2001 had a lot of momentum going into it as any one of them could've been the torch bearer.
